A Fun Question About My 12 Month Old

Hi..

I have a crazy question to ask you all.. You see, my daughter who just turned 1 on April 19th has been doing this weird "get on all fours and lift one leg and kick out as if she is trying to kick you or just kicking the air" She isn't doing it in a hateful manor, she mostly does it with out any one near her. Today she did it standing up (holding on to a chair for balance) and just trying to rest her foot on one of the rails. I have also noticed she does it when she gets very excited. Today she kept doing in when her dad came in the room. I was laughing so hard so she kept going and kept doing it Its really quirky, I am just wondering if any other moms have had this kinda thing happen, or anything odd that their child is doing?

What can I do next?

My daughter didn't start walking until she was about 15 months old. Right before she started walking she would put her butt in the air and walk like a crab. She LOVES her stuffed bunnies and always had one hanging from it's ear or tail hanging out of her mouth. I have about 30 mintues worth of this on tape because I thought it was so funny.
Great idea for a post...I love funny stories that kids do.

My 13 month old does the same thing. It looks like a dog peeing on a tree!

My daughter is 3 and she STILL does that. She calls it her "trick". "Look, Mom! Watch my trick!" It takes a lot to balance like that and the idea that you're daughter is able to do it at 1 year is remarkable. Maybe it's just fun for her, something new she can do. And the fact that you snicker when she does it is a near-guarantee she'll keep doing it. I wouldn't worry about it for a second.

This is going to sound even stranger but there is an old wives tale in my culture that if your child does this, they are asking for a sibling!! My youngest daughter used to do this all the time and my mom told me about it and SWEARS by it. I am now pregnant with my third child, unexpectedly, of course :)

Sounds to me like she is dancing - has she ever seen anyone dance or watched Dancing on Television? My niece and my daughter both did little things like this around a year/year and a half. They would do more and more if they got any attention or an audience. They are both adults in college now and both still take dance lessons.

Possible its gymnastics or a circus act Too???

Hi M.! I don't have an answer for you, but after reading your "A Little about me" I just had to tell you that you sound like such a wonderful, special person and I just wanted to tell you! My son turned 1 on March 30 and he's just started dancing...it almost looks like he's trying to "hump" the air...but it's hysterical and he giggles like crazy! Aren't kids just amazing????

My son did it and still does--he's three. The next thing he started and does is a donkey kick--hands down kicking both feet in the air.

My daughter did the same thing. People would giggle and say she's the 3-legged crawler. She never learned to crawl on all 4's but I can tell you that now, she's 7 and very coordinated and runs faster than all the boys in her PE class. My son, never crawled, he scootched on his rear end. Now he's 6 and does well in sports too. Take lots of video of your daughter doing this because the stage goes by so fast and it's really cute.
