My poor little one is really doing a number on her face and neck! It looks terrible! She's cutting her top teeth and it's been really hard on her. She is happy and playful during the day but is clawing at herself all day and night. It started out just behind her neck and a small spot on the front of her neck, but now it's all over her face, ears, and neck. I don't think it's a rash or allergic reaction to something. It's not anywhere else on her body, except now she has her first diaper rash which i mentioned on a diff question. I do think it's from teething. I have hylands teeth tabs and gel and give motrin sometimes and lots of love. She scratches the fire out of me too and i keep her nails cut as short and often as i can. The only thing i can think of is taping gloves over her hands. That seems a bit much. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

I would do the gloves or mitts, especially when she's going a bit crazy with it. Our baby used to scratch when she was smaller, and the scratches are horrible to see, we had numerous sets of mitts. But at 9 months she may not like it. Diaper rashes can be part of teething, use vaseline as a protectant. Hope she cuts the teeth fast, I know the top ones seem to be really tough for my baby too, she has one more...

You could put socks over her hands at night.

I would give her Motrin regularly if this is bothering her so much. If it lasts much longer, a visit to the doctor might be needed.

This may sound crazy but try one of these baltic amber teething necklaces on her. It's not something she chews on, she just wears it and it helps with teething pain (as well as lots of other things!). My 9 month old wears one all day every day, she doesn't even know it's there, and I SWEAR it makes her a happier baby. This is where I ordered from... has lots of good info in the site too... http://hyenacart.com/inspiredbyfinn/. Good luck!

Again... very late, but yes, tape on the gloves or socks, it's only when she's asleep. If it's a rash, you can use the 1% hydrocortizone anywhere on her body. She might also have allergies if this is popping all over her body -- maybe something she ate on-off, or did you change soaps or shampoos or detergents or anything else?
