I need an inexpensive idea party idea for a 5 yr old. He wants to have it at Chuck E Cheese, but I just don't think I can afford it. We would have about 15 to 20 kids there.

What can I do next?

When my son turned 4 we had his at Papa Romano's on 23 and Schoehnerr (sp??) It was really cheap, can't remember the exact cost. They give the kids a tour of the kitchen, the walk in refrigerator and then show them how the dough is made. Then each child gets to make his/her own individual sized pizza. I bought aprons and used fabric pens to decorate them and put each kids name on the. Then I ordered a bunch of those paper chef hats. It was so cute and some great photo opportunities!!

Honestly I know the kids LOVE to play at Chuck E Cheese, but the pizza tastes like cardboard, in my opinion. You could always go to Chuck E Cheese just to play and buy each kids so many tokens... I've seen lots of people do this. Plus for my sons 3rd birthday we had it Chuck E Cheese and you feel VERY rushed!!! And for all that money!!!

Good Luck!

Chuck E Cheese is dirty..yuck.
Pump it up is nice...blow up things that kids jump around in...
Dave and Busters
If you don't mind the mess...do something at home....make pizzas, individual ones, or order them and have the kids make desert..cookie , or you can have the cookies made already and they get to decorate them

K.,
Jennifer is right that you could do Chuck E. Cheese without booking a party and just buy your own pizzas and tokens. There are a lot of CEC coupons out there, both in the newspaper and on the CEC website. Another option that we did for my son's 4th birthday was an "organizational" party at CEC. This is only $5.99/child and they get 2 slices of pizza, unlimited pop, and 16 tokens. You can bring your own cake and ice cream, and they'll have the space set aside for you. It won't have the "birthday extras", but it's about 1/2 the price. This will only work if you can do the party during the week (M-Th all day, or Friday before 5pm). We did a Friday at 4pm, and the "organization" was my son's daycare. Most parents were able to do a 4pm start time on a Friday. If you'd like any more details, feel free to email me. Hope this helps.

Most experts advise the number of children to be the child's age plus one. 15 to 20 for a five year old is way too many. Plus, adults would stay. Why not just take cake to school, and then have a party at your home for five other kids?

My firend just had her daughters fifth birthday and they had a costume party. Most children went in there outfit from halloween. They had little snacks and such but not a big meal to feed everyone. The party was after lunch. they had a scavenger hunt and pinata.

My thought is CEC is way to expensive and the pizza is lousy. I would rather take the kids to Dave and Busters, in all honesty it's about the same price and if you go and just play it's not to bad. They also offer a really nice menu where you spend $15-20 you get a $10 free card to play with.

We took my GS troop there a couple years ago and it was great, they had a ball played for about an hour and even those who had under 100 tokens got something they wanted with the tickets.

You can take in your own cake there also.

The other option is how about a dollar movie?

Good luck.

You could do make-your-own pizzas at home. We did this for a church party, using disposable pie tins. Kids loved it!
