The biopsy will also confirm cancer TYPE, but, hopefully it will be a benign mass. and then they will know how to treat it. Good luck, and blessings to their family.
Hey mamas,
I got some very depressing news today from my sister. Her 5 month old, her only child, had a mass in his stomach, what they later found out was cancer. It is in or around his kidneys, and they are running several tests tonight and in the morning to see where it is, how big it is, and what type of cancer it is. I can't even imagine.
Whoever you pray to, whatever you believe in, whoever your God may be, please pray for my nephew tonight and throughout the week. I am a firm believer in the power of prayer and good thoughts, so please keep us in mind. Let's show this baby what God can do for him.
They found that it is in his kidney. Most of his stomach and his right kidney need to be removed. Now they just need to evaluate him more to find out what type of tumor it is and see if chemo or surgery or both are the best option. Poor guy. I will keep you all updated.
The mandatory question... Has anyone else been in this situation?
UPDATE-
They found that the mass is as big as a grapefruit! In a 5 month old! Holy moly!
They go in for surgery Friday morning to remove the mass, the right kidney, and to take a biopsy of both. They need a biopsy to confirm that it is cancer or to dismiss the idea all together. I guess a biopsy is the only way to know for sure.
Keep those prayers coming! I appreciate everyone's kind words so far in this horrible ordeal for my sister and her family. Everyone has been so sweet and thoughtful. Thanks to all you mamas =)

Hi, praying for your family.
Just a word of encouragement -
My first job out of college I worked with a woman - emphasize ADULT, all grown up, graduate of college, healthy enough to put in five shifts a week, and who went on to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse anesthetist - who also had a grapefruit sized tumor removed when she was a baby. (I think they also removed one of her kidneys. ). Just saying, people who had 30+ LESS years of medical advances have come through similar situations. Not to say it isn't a long hard haul. Sending prayers for you & your family.
Ohhhh. That is so scary! I'm so sorry for your baby nephew and his parents! I am sending my good thoughts to them during this ordeal. Please keep us posed.
Our family is praying for your family. Hugs to you.
Poor baby and mom and dad. I'll pray for them too.
I pray that God blesses your sweet little nephew, your sister and you. Best wishes and many prayers to you.
Keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers, truly.
My God bless your nephew, you and yur family with strength, good health and love...Please stay strong, you wouldn't believe how strong these babies are today. They will surprise you!!!
Oh my goodness, the baby and his family will be in my prayers.
I'm sending lots of prayers and blessings to you, your sister, her family and particularly your nephew. I pray that it will all resolve quickly and easily and he will go on to live a long healthy life.
My husband actually had his kidneys damaged at 3 years old. He lived until 50 years old with 50% renal function, then had to go onto dialysis. Having one kidney is enough for the body to function normally. I just pray the mass is benign or the cancer is a form that is easily curable!
My prayers are with this strong little baby and his family. He will beat this!
I can't even begin to image their struggle right now. All I can do is offer prayer. Prayers of support/healing/strength/understanding/guidence.
Oh my gosh. POOR BABY and MOMMA! That breaks my heart. So little and young and going through so much. I hope and pray that things will go well considering everything....and that sweet baby boy will get better. Hugs and love to all of you...and many prayers.
I will continue to keep your family in my prayers! God bless to you all!

Just wanted to let you know that I'll be praying for him, and I added him to the prayer line that my mom is part of.
Blessings....
Thank you for updating us. Will continue to pray HARD! Blessings to your nephew and family, and to you for all you are doing. :)
Just letting you know that you and your family are still in my thoughts and prayers. May your sweet little nephew have an easy surgery, speedy recovery and a benign tumor. May you and your sister and her husband find strength and courage during this challenging time....
Thanks so much for the update. Still keeping the little one, you, and your family in my prayers!
I'm praying for your nephew and his entire family. I can't imagine the stress and worry. My boss's daughter had a grapefruit-size tumor somewhere in her abdomen that turned out to be benign. It was removed 10 years ago and she is a happy, healthy law school student now. She was of course much older than your nephew but these things can sometimes be benign and once removed, not cause any problems. Thank you for updating us!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your nephew, sister and the family. I hope all goes well tomorrow, and in the future for the little guy, and the family.
Have you or your sister ever heard of Dr Burzynski? He's in Houston, TX. He’s curing cancer in the hundreds. Great documentary on him that's available for free viewing. You really should watch it and get your nephew an appt. with him. It's an eye-opener.

Burzynski, the Movie is the story of a medical doctor and Ph.D biochemist named Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski who won the largest, and possibly the most convoluted and intriguing legal battle against the Food & Drug Administration in American history.
His victorious battles with the United States government were centered around Dr. Burzynski's gene-targeted cancer medicines he discovered in the 1970's called Antineoplastons, which have currently completed Phase II FDA-supervised clinical trials in 2009 and could begin the final phase of FDA testing in 2011–barring the ability to raise the required $150 million to fund the final phase of FDA clinical trials.
When Antineoplastons are approved, it will mark the first time in history a single scientist, not a pharmaceutical company, will hold the exclusive patent and distribution rights on a paradigm-shifting medical breakthrough.
Antineoplastons are responsible for curing some of the most incurable forms of terminal cancer. Various cancer survivors are presented in the film who chose these medicines instead of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation - with full disclosure of medical records to support their diagnosis and recovery - as well as systematic (non-anecdotal) FDA-supervised clinical trial data comparing Antineoplastons to other available treatments—which is published within the peer-reviewed medical literature.
This documentary takes the audience through the treacherous, yet victorious, 14-year journey both Dr. Burzynski and his patients have had to endure in order to obtain FDA-approved clinical trials of Antineoplastons.
I just fixed the blog typo! I had mistyped it! Oops!
If you would like to pass this along to your sister I have a friend who is going through cancer with her little one as well. She has a blog and updates it pretty frequently: karingforkeegan.blogspot.com He is going through his second bout of chemo and radiation. They could exchange prayers and maybe Beth (Keegan's mommy) could offer her some support since she has been through this already! :( We will be praying for your sweet nephew. Our little ones pray for Baby Keegan every night. We will just add your nephew to the list! <3
I'm praying for your nephew. God Bless.
