P.K.
Sorry can't remember if I used high or low. My new car adjusts automatically. I think low, but don't hold me to that. Sorry.
So as you know, central US states was hit with a horrible snow storm yesterday. We got about 5 inches which is not bad but the wind was nasty and created all these snow drifts in my neighborhood. A few of my neighbors had a hard time getting out this morning and they even had SUV's with 4WD. As I turned one of the corners there was a huge snowdrift and I was not sure if i could get thru it, well luckily i made it through and i had my 4WD drive in Auto but then I was wondering if i should put it in 4X low or high. I have never asked my DH what the difference is, do any of you know? Just curious.
I know I can always google, but as always i want to hear from people who have actually used these settings if possible. Thanks all!
Happy Hump Day!

4 high is for snow and 4 low is for off-roading.
I agree with Diane - low is for off road or pulling stuff like a trailer. High is for normal (well, normal snow and ice) driving. Had my truck in 4wheel high for about the last month here in MI!
4 hi for snow!!!
If you are going up a steep, slick road, you may have to put it in low. If you aren't having problems, high will do.
We had icy conditions last week and I actually had to put the 4WD in low to get up a huge icy hill down the road. 4WD high just wasn't cutting it. Worked like a charm.
I was driving my hubby's pick up in the snow and he explained this to me. The low puts a lot of torque on the wheels and is good for off road use where you are moving at a lower speed. It doesn't give you more traction. On the road in snow or ice you need traction so 4xlow would be a bad choice.
4xhi gives you a little more traction in the snow at a higher speed so that would be a good choice for your huge snowdrift.
