With babies its 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Dont worry about it, my 8 month old did the same thing.
When my daughter was just 3 months and 1 week old she surprised us by both sleeping through the night for the first time AND rolling over the very next day (tummy to back). She rolled over three times that day but hasn't done it since then even though we are vigilant about doing tummy-time each day, twice a day. She turned 4 months yesterday and we are a bit concerned that she has "unlearned" the skill. We will see the pediatrician on Tuesday for her 4 month appointment but I was curious if any other moms experienced a similar pattern. Thanks!!!

I am a family physician. Most babies start to roll-over around 4 months of age. I would not be concerned at this point. Watch and see how she does over the next month. Continue to do tummy time and you can try to encourage her to roll from side to side with a toy or stuffed animal.
It is totaly normal! I remember when our first did it, I expected her to roll every day after, and when almost 3 weeks went by and she didnt I started to panic. I remember asking my mother in law, (who's a mother of 6) she said stop expecting so much... As long as she is on track with all other mile stones I honestly dont think its cause for panic... Keep up the tummy time it strenghtens their whole body...
You'll find out in a year or so that she will probably say her first word ("Dada"...- which sucks- I felt like my daughter was a little trader; here I was brest feeding her for all these months and she picks dada for the first word, LOL!!) and then a month or so will go by with out another peep...
Enjoy her, they grow so fast... my 1st baby is going to be starting 3rd grade in a few months, where does time go??
I have a 4 almost 5 month old who is doing the same thing. He rolled tummy to back before he was 3 months old, did it 3 more times and then nothing. I am not worried because he still is strong at pushing himself up. He did roll over 2 days ago from back to tummy and now he just rolls on his side. I remember my son doing this, he also walked at 11 months, taking 5-6 steps on his own then nothing until after his first birthday. So I learned as long as he still looks strong doing everything else not to worry. What I read once was that babies have so much to learn, language, cognitive and physical skills that they can't focus on all these areas at that same time. So when my son was learning new words he stopped walking as much, when he was increasing his physical skills he would slow down in his language. So as long as one area is progressing don't worry.
Unless she is sick I wouldn't worry too much. Mention it at the dr if you are concerned, but beyond that no big deal. The other thing she will do is show you a really cool trick and as soon as you try to show her off to your mom or friends she will instantly stop. This is just what kids do. Babies are as fickle as grownups, they will do something for a while and get tired of it and then do something else.
We had this happen but not so young. He rolled at 6months then was sick and didn't do tummy time for maybe a week. He didn't roll again for 2 more months.
They all do things in their own time. The developmental specialists told me they wouldn't be concerned unless he was rolling at 10 months old.
I am going to agree with the other ladies that this is probably not something to worry about. I have had three kids that were developmentally delayed (autism) and 1 thing in one area is not usually something to worry about. Mention it to your pediatrician, but don't worry about developmental things unless you start seeing a lot more.
I think it is wonderful that you are paying attention to your child and her development. She will probably start rolling over consistently in the next month or so.
My son did the same thing, rolled from back to tummy around 3mos-then nothing! Right before he turned 6mos it became an everyday occurance. Now he's 6 1/2mos and does it all the time, all day long! Don't worry- they have so much to learn and I think we forget just HOW much that is~ Hope this helps! -M.
