My dd is not rolling over yet. I am a bit worried... she is 5 months and most other babies have been doing this for about a month or longer. She has rolled from her tummy to her back maybe 2 times but it was cause she got so excited!
Did anyone's little one not roll over and just start to crawl instead.. she is not doing this yet but I think that might be what she does, crawl instead of roll over. Should I ask the dr when I go in for her 6 mo or is this normal?

What can I do next?

No big whoop. My daughter didn't roll over at 6 months either. She was a big fat baby who couldn't get her leg over her body to complete the roll over. She became a lean and active toddler.

My son did not roll over until 8 months! He didn't crawl until 10 months, but was walking by 12 months. So don't worry, every baby does things on their own :). Enjoy the fact that she is not mobile!! I worried a lot with him and with my next one who is due in a few months, I will be grateful for the time he is not moving!!

My daughter didn't roll over until about 8 months, then crawled at 8 1/2 and walked at 11 months. It is totally normal. Give it more time. Encourage tummy time and it will come.

Hi A....my 2nd adn 3rd baby didn't roll over until almost 7 months. They were both just happy as could be to lay on their back and look around. They both would do great on their tummy time, and could sit on their own....but NO desire to turn over! Our ped said not to worry because their muscle tone was great. She will do it one day....then you will have to start dealing with her turning over in her crib at night and then crying because she is "stuck"...with every new accomplishment comes new challenges :) Good Luck!

I think your baby is fine. She will do it in her own time. As long as she is able to hold her head up well and look around, I would't worry. But ask your doctor if that brings you peace. Honestly, I'd be happy if I were you, my son is almost 7 months old and he is crawling all over the house! I don't have a moment's rest now! :-)

No worries A.! My little girl is 16 months old now, but she didn't roll over until she was about 7 or 8 months old! She was a bit on the chubby side :0) But, she just didn't like "tummy time" and so it took her a little longer to roll over. Her doctor said that it was nothing to worry about - babies do things on their own time. Once she started crawling though - watch out! So, relax there's nothing to worry about.

My dd is almost 12 months and still isn't rolling over! Her pediatrician still isn't concerned though. She did start sitting up perfectly at 6 months...she just hates her tummy time and hasn't figured out that she can control that by rolling onto her back. It's great once they can sit up and play with their toys from a whole new perspective! Hang in there!

It is very normal for heavier babies or babies that don't have a lot of upper body strength. All babies do things at different rates - and don't compare! You could go crazy if you do that. Your doctor will ask about mile stones at each check up and if there is anything to be concerned about - he/she will tell you. In the meantime, enjoy your little one! The more they move, the more work it is to keep them out of things!

My First son did not roll over until 6 months but once he did, he did barrel rolls everywhere. Once he rolled over he had it down pat. He did this with everything. He didn't crawled until about 8 1/2 months but once he did he was off. Same with walking he didn't do it until 12 months but almost never fell once he started. So it might have taken him longer to learn to do things but once he did, he was like an instant pro.
Every kid is so different and there is nothing wrong with not rolling over yet. Please don't compare just enjoy your daughter for who she is. Babies can only handle mastering on skill at a time, she might be trying to master some other skill you are unaware of or just taking her time. Plus once they are mobile your whole life changes. Really enjoy that they same in one place for now.
My nephew did everything early, he rollover at 3 weeks old! Walked at 10 months but he is the clumsiest kid I have ever known.
So doing something late doesn't have any impact on what their physical abilities will be when they are older.
Just keep giving her tummy time and we even 'helped' our son by putting him on a pillow so he was tilted and could easily rollover. I think that helped him learn to roll over.
If she is meeting most milestones when she should i am sure she is fine.
Enjoy, M.

My daughter was a happy and content little girl and I thought she would never roll over or crawl! She would turn herself on her side and crane her neck around but it took until almost 8 months when she finally got up the desire to explore further. She started crawling at 9 months. She would scoot, or push herself to get to where she needed, but not really motiviated. Now she's 4 and doesn't stop. I think personality can play a role in their early development, but consult a physican just in case.

Relax. Most babies are not rolling over a 4 mos. or less. From my experience, it's about six months. By the time you go in for the next appointment, she'll be doing it and you'll wonder why you worried. :)

And beware of the "my baby did it at ___ months" thing...parents tend to brag!!

I am a pediatric physical therapist =) Does your daughter enjoy tummy time? When she's on her tummy is she pushing up on just her forearms, or is she starting to push up on hands with her elbows straight? Does she have good head control when you hold her in a sitting position? How much help does she need to sit up? (is she starting to keep her upper back straight with just a little rounded posture in the low back?) Is she trying to "weight shift" on her tummy to reach for toys? If she is doing most of these things, I would not worry. If not, INCREASE TUMMY TIME as much as possible =) If you have further questions, feel free to send me a personal message. (I bet you got a lot of "every child develops different" messages! That's what usually happens, but there is always more to it than that!) Good Luck!

Don't worry about it but mention it to the doctor next time you're in. My son rolled over a couple times at around 4-5 months, and then never again until he was crawling! He was a late crawler too...at 10 months. Then he started walking at 11 months! Development is so different from child to child. While it's a good idea to casually keep an eye on things, much of this stuff is not actually considered a necessary part of development. I think back to how much I worried and it was all wasted energy. Just enjoy!

I wouldn't worry. It's worth mentioning at her next appointment, but use your mommy's instinct if they suggest further action.

I have a long story about the nonsense that took place when my son did not sit up "on schedule". We ended up foregoing multiple CT scans and Neurologists visit for simple chiropractic care, and within two weeks he went from not being able to sit unsupported to being able to pull himself up on furniture and walk around while holding on to furniture and the walls.

My oldest son did not roll over until he was more than 6 months old. We used to sit and watch him for hours, encouraging him, but he just wouldn't do it.

My youngest son rolled over early, but didn't crawl until after he started walking at 9 months. But he didn't start babbling until just last month at nearly 12 months and he still doesn't consistently say "mama" or "dada".

My granddaughter is 8 months old and rolls over, but hasn't figured out how to crawl yet and still has problems sitting on her own.

Every child is different and develops on their own schedule. If you're worried then certainly ask about it at her checkup, but I wouldn't be worried at all. She's just doing things in her own time. Perhaps she's working on other skills right now. Babies don't multitask that well, so like mine was developing physically very quickly his language skills were kind of hanging back. Now he's working on his language skills more. Perhaps she's just working on other skills at the moment.

I just read last night with rolling over it varies WIDELY with age.

My daughter is 4mos. and not anywhere close to rolling over.

My older dd skipped crawling and just walked.

I wouldn't worry about it aslong as your dd is doing everyhing else like smiling, laughing, playing with toys.

your daughter is probably just fine. typical age for rolling over is 4-5-6 months...
i wouldnt worry unless your doctor seems concerned about it, or if shes not TRYING to move around.
its hard to compare our kids to other kids because kids grow at their own pace, and it doesnt make your daughter any less smart than others, shes just concentrating on other things.

i dont think theres reason to worry, but bring it up with your doctor especially if you have a nagging feeling that something is not right...

Don't worry about it. Every kid developes at a different rate. Neither one of our boys walked until they were 17 mths. And they both walk just fine =) She'll roll over when she's ready.
