Hello,
My three year old has accidentally broken her left femur bone and she will be bed ridden for next 6-8 weeks. I would appreciate any suggestions from all moms on how to keep her entertained. She loves doing paper craft, colour painting, puzzles and crayons, etc.
Thanks for your suggestions,

What can I do next?

Lots of movie nights. Sleeping beauty, princess and the pea. Also taking her outside and blowing bubbles would be fun. She could sit on the ground or in a lawn chair. I cannot see how you would keep a 3 yr old in bed for a min let alone six weeks. Go to the Library and get some books about crafts, and just new books. Make mobiles for her room so she can look at them. Majic wands. Envite a friend over so they can have a pj in bed play date. Perhaps an older kid for about 30 min. you could take her on wagon rides. Try to think if you were three what would you want to do. Could she go to a zoo or even a aquarium (sp?)or would she want to get up too much? Best of luck. hope she heals quickly.

I would also suggest playing board games, like Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, Dominoes.

I broke my left wrist last yr, and it was no fun! I will tell you music helps and books. Any small crafts might be hard to grasp or do if it takes two hands, so I would get puzzle color books. I had a hello kitty book I did from cover to cover. Noggin has a good amount of fun print outs with the Backyardagains, Blues clues, and Max and Ruby.

In addition to what you already mentioned, maybe help her build something out of craft sticks. She could make a box fairly easily and it could either be painted or left as is.
Get her one of those padded lap trays to work on and her visitors can sign it with a permanent marker. You might also want to record her thoughts in a daily journal. Ask her what she wants you to write. When she gets older, she'll remember the broken leg but not much else and, believe me, there's going to be questions about details that you may or may not be able to remember.
Good luck and I wish her a speedy recovery as possible!

Does she play with Barbies yet? If so, get her the different sizes of Popsicle sticks and let her color them with washable markers. Then allow her to glue them together to make beds of her Barbies. She can also make picture frames for Christmas gifts to grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and teachers. Since she is making them, you can assist her to make them different sizes. Then glue the pictures to the back of the frame. You can also put puzzle pieces on there.

you might want to get a tape recorder and tape stories while you read them to her, with a "BEEEP!" at the end of each page. You will get double benefits out of the reading. also, let her record her own stories and then if you (or grandma) has time, write them down for her and she can make pictures to go with them.
Legos, puzzles, colorforms are not messy and can easily be started and stopped. Friends over to play with paper dolls. They can each dress their own and make up their own stories. You can make robots with glue, paper, crayons and empty paper towel and toiliet paper rolls. She needs a lot of help for that.
The Fisher Price family with house etc. is good for role playing.
I was laid up with a broken leg at 6 (roller skating) and I don't remember it being all so bad.

Poor baby! Do you have a laptop? Computer games might be fun. Try starfall.com. Since it's her leg, I would try to keep her hands as busy as possible. Play-dough, puzzles, making necklaces, dolls, etc... And of course, lots of books... Might try audio books and have her follow along...

Help her create a journal/scrapbook about her broken leg experience. You can take pictures and print them on the computer and let her paste them into a small scrapbook or album. You can get creative and help her draw some pictures to add to it or you can get a multitude of supplies at a craft store. Let her tell you what she thinks about it and you can journal (write) it for her. You could do a Day 1, Day10, etc. Store bought scrapbooking can get expensive but you can do something simple instead. It will be a memento she can show her friends and family now and she can show her own children someday. I think the ongoing process will give her something to look forward to each day and will be rewarding for her and you as well.
