I've never heard of this. Interesting!
Perhaps you could get him a Golden Retriever PUPPY!
;o)
My son will be turning 3 on the third, so it is his golden birthday (gift is something gold). I don't know what to get a 3 year old--even if it is just a keepsake/heirloom...money clip comes to mind but I am trying to think a little more outside the box.
Suggestions?
PS: It doesn't actually have to be made of gold...though I'd prefer that. And it doesn't have to be extravagant. I'd also considered taking him gold panning or something...

How about buying him some gold. I know, wackadoodle idea.
I have an associate that just bought his home with $250,000 cash. He cashed in some of the silver he has been buying since he was 13. His grampa bought him a bar of silver way back when it was really cheap. He has been adding to it over the years. Now that precious medals are up again, he's got a nice little nest egg. He's 35 and golfs all day every day!
Or set up a stock account for him and buy Gold Futures.
I have never heard of this before! Sounds neat. Some ideas:
a collection of gold matchbox cars
a set of Little Golden Books
a golden crown he can wear on his b'day then use for dress-up after
a gold superhero cape (check etsy)
a gold medal on a ribbon
a Golden Retriever stuffed animal
a pirate treasure chest with "gold" coins and other booty he can play with
I love the My Little Golden Books Idea....
Or Gold collectible car/plane/train/football
OK so don't send me "you are crazy, lady" responses as I am roflmao at my DH who is a retired Merchant Captain & who served in the USN for years, has suggested: "Take him to the jewelry store & get his ear pierced with a small gold hoop" ;)
I have not clue 3 year old was a golden birthday, I sure hope 33 is a diamond birthday and if so, pleasssseee send my husband a memo!
If I wanted to give my 3 year old a gold present, would it have to be something she could not lose, so what about a golden coin but don't give it to him, just show it?
Or a "small" picture frame with your picture?
I am having a hard time because any thing I can think are things that I would not give it to him/her so it would have to be something not to expensive so I can also give him a present that he could actually have.
My daughter's Golden Birthday is coming up next month too...she will be 4 on the 4th :)
I have no idea what to get here either? I will be reading all your responses hoping for ideas!
How about a gold box to keep his treasures in?
You can buy or make it.
(Gold colored piggy bank?)
Since he will never remember his golden birthday, I don't think it matters much. I wouldn't put too much thought into it.
Are teh gold dollars that you can get at teh bank what you are talking about? They are worth a dollar so they must be gold plated or something but i would think a kid that age would think it was fun. Tfairy brings them here.
someone once gave us a gold piggy bank with gold coins
