He is sweet and shy, not your typical boy (not into sports, etc) We homeschool, and he is into collecting coins right now. He would like this to be a very special birthday! Would like to incorporate the "golden" into his birthday without it being too "girly." I'm at a blank. And, he hasn't been specific on what he wants to do or anything. He likes surprises. We live in East TN and his birthday is on 10-10 (October 10). I need your help. Thanks so much in advance.
*Side note-This is my first time asking a question, and thank you so much for your ideas..here's more info...I LOVE the idea of using real gold coins as gifts, and fake ones as decor, treasure "hunts", etc. He does not like pirates, so I'll skip that part. We don't have many friend his age, so mainly it will be family. His b'day is on a Saturday, just looking for something unique to do. I guess a party at the house with some type of decor and food and then maybe go somewhere just immediate family??? I have a small budget. Appreciate your ideas/thoughts...keep 'em coming!!

What can I do next?

Sounds like you've got a ton of great ideas! I was just going to add that Party City and other places like that would have tons of Gold colored decorations. Have fun!

I had to Google what a golden birthday was, interesting. I'm 32 and have never heard of it. Maybe because mine was when I turned 2??

If he's in to coins, why not plan a trip to a place where there are rare coins? Collections or something? I'm sure you could find something within a days drive..

I think it could be a Pirate treasure party with black & GOLD balloons.
Maybe even some REAL gold coins.
Cupcakes with Pirate bling.

I've never heard of a golden birthday, but you can definitely run with a money/pirate theme. Could do a treasure hunt and tell his friends they can "bank on a good time!" What kid doesn't like money? Maybe the kids can find fake golden coins on the hunt and then trade them in for some little prizes.

For my son's 11yr old October golden birthday I surprised him a week early. All his friends met at a rented park pavilion and helped me decorate. Golden streamers, gold curly ribbons, golden candy coins and Hershey nuggets, etc tossed on the table, gold balloons, gold confetti and on and on. One friend invited him on a fake playdate at the park an hour later and brought him into the pavilion saying he had to use the bathroom. Everyone jumped out yelling and it was super fun!

We played some good old fashioned party games with the help of some older boy cousins. Boys love relays and anything competitive! They also played football while I got the food organized. I had hotdogs in a slow cooker, ordered pizzas to be delivered, and brought veggies, fruit and chips. I also had a cake made with a photo of our golden retriever with a happy birthday sign around his neck. Sooooo cute! Don't forget the gold plates, napkins and forks!

Go to a party store and you will get inspired! Have fun!

For my daughter's golden birthday (she turned 7) she was way into Ancient Egypt. We planned an Ancient Egypt party and had they boys get wrapped as mummies or Pharoahs and the girls as Cleopatra. We did a pyramid cake and had rubber snakes and golden-wrapped candy inside as part of their take home loot. We had their write their names in hieroglypics on tiles we spray painted gold. It was a fun afternoon, and the kids loved it.

Piggy-backing on the prior answers and your side note, how about using the fake gold coins (and if you like, some chocolate ones wrapped in the gold foil) as treasure. If he doesn't like pirates, you could get the gold ones that look like ancient Greek or Roman coins with the heads on them. If it coordinates with your home schooling curriculum (I don't know how much freedom you have), you could do a history unit on ancient Greece (or any other civilization), then create some treasure maps using actual sites. You can hide things in the yard or in the house, and either let a few kids work individually or have them team up in small groups. You can use a map, or you can put together a series of written clues

Some people use a sandy area (even an old garden plot you've turned over after the harvest, or a few borrowed sand boxes) to bury things the kids can find. You can give everyone a little trowel and a paint brush (for brushing away the sand). You might get some ideas from toys like this (I just Googled "archeology toys" if you don't want to click on this link, but this is just one option): https://www.fatbraintoys.com/toy_companies/seedling_usa/t...

For gifts, you could consider a subscription to an explorer or history type magazine for kids, or a coin magazine. I'm not sure if kids are still into collecting the 50 state quarters but there is a portfolio you can buy with a circular slot for each coin. It's also a great way to teach geography of the US in a fun way.

Since your son likes surprises, I think you could use some of the suggestions below (like covering his door with streamers) and then you could start his day with a few clues or treasure maps just for his gifts and even to find his breakfast and his sneakers!

I have never heard of a golden birthday. Maybe that is regional or religious?

Anyway, if he is into collecting coins, get a few gold coins.

We collect coins and have a numismatic shop close by where we can get Morgan Silver dollars and other rare/unique coins as well as gold.

Without knowing you area and things to do, I am at a loss but a lot of children that age like the JumpStreet trampoline places, laser tag, a pro baseball or football game.

Is there a scheduled coin show in your area?

How many children are you talking about? Does he have a lot of friends, socialize much? What does he do with friends?

Good luck.

Okay I'll just throw out a bunch of ideas:
-How about decorating the house while he is asleep: balloons everywhere,
streamers, a sign. Put streamers over his doorway so he can break through them. He wakes up to his favorite breakfast, take him to his favorite place for lunch or find somewhere completely cool & different to take him to that you think he would like.
-Definitely do a treasure hunt. You can do one around your house, backyard
or local park.
-You could definitely do a party at your house w/family & let him invite a couple of friends.
-I'd also take him somewhere fun like mini golf, kid appropriate movie on the
weekend before with a friend.
-You could leave him a small gift in his room to wake up to, one at the breakfast table, one later in the day, a trail of presents from his room to the
kitchen or living room, hide little gifts during the day (near his breakfast
table, a gift card under his plate at lunch, his room, your car if you go some-
where,

In my family turning 10 is a very big deal. It is the age we permit the chidlren to spend the night out at a friend's house or to have a friend spend the night at our house.

Since you want to incorporate his newly found passion of coin collecting into the mix perhaps there is something coin collecting related near your area. I love the idea of a Pirate themed party. I know you could get plastic gold coins from Oriental Trading online. They even have gold custom photo coins which are sold for almost $16.00 for 68. The other gold coins are sold in packs of 144. There is quite an assortment of coins.

You could use the coins to distribute to exchange for prizes if you throw a party for him.

Good job getting an early start on this. Time certainly flys by when fun is being had.

One idea that comes to mind is tying his coin collection in to it. His golden birthday (when the age matches the day of the month) could be made very special. You could do a pirate theme if he is into that. My kids had a pirate party when they turned 6 and had a blast. We had a pirate chest of prizes for games, a treasure hunt, and a pirate chest pinata. I had chocolate coins for all of these.

hello
how fun !! .. for starters, you could do a photo cake. take a pic(s) of your son into the local bakery, in our case, we use the grocery store, Lucky's it's similar to Safeway.. anyway, see if your store offers the service.. do a photocake of some sort.. could younger pics to now..
additionally, get those chocolate gold coins and use them for favors OR just for fun... if you want to have some real fun with it... go to "chocolatevault.com"
on there, you can find molds of anything. in particular, they have gold chocolate coins and you can get a molded chocolate treasure box to put them in.. go to the site, type in coins and it's on the front. so CUTE !!
anyway, it's a fun site.. they make TONS of different things..
also... golden balloons as decor.. they have shiny ones that are really pretty..
go to yahoo under images, type in "coin cakes" omg............... there fun cakes on there.. if you can't do a molded coin.. they show a round cake with gold coins sprinkled on top.. looks super cute..
it's kinda near halloween, so carmel apples with a light dusting of edible gold baking dust might be pretty..
games..
kids that age might like a beanbag toss, cut out holes in a board and toss bean bags through..
also.. silly string was a hit at our party... but you have to have a place for it, it gets messy.. but the kids loved it!!
a scavenger hunt is fun in or outdoors depending upon weather..
of course, a pinata is a must !!!!
and don't forget.. hang lots of FUN lights.. they can really bring ambiance to a party...

Is he into precious stones too? I thought I heard of a diamond digging place in Arkansas. It is called Crater of Diamond State Park.

I am not sure how far that is from your home or if you were considering a trip. I was just think it would be similar as going to San Francisco from where I live or finding a gold panning place in the mountains around me.

So I have always been told that when your age and your birthday date are the same it's called your Royal birthday. So I I will be treating my children like Royalty on those days. Breakfast in bed, a special crown, whatever they want to eat for the day, they can "command" and we, their subjects will comply, you know fun stuff like that. :)

My husband's grandma sends our kids I think some kind of gold dollar coin, they are all different. Maybe check into those and start him on a new collection, I'm not sure.

Our anniversary is 10/10 so I won't tell you how we'll be celebrating. LOL

Good luck, you've gotten a lot of great ideas already.

I hadn't heard of this but it sounds like a fun birthday idea :) He will enjoy having the day so special.

Sounds like great ideas already. I have one low key quiet child and he enjoys spending the day with family on his birthday - we generally go all out for decorations, I make a cake and then put whatever he is collecting on top of it (in your case, you could put coins, or do cupcakes and put special real ones on his cupcake), and we tend to do something he would like to do as a family. So that might mean a trip out somewhere, then back to the house and have some family over for pizza or barbecue, cake and presents to follow. A scavenger hunt (for coins) could be fun :)

My child like this prefers to go out with a bud or 2 to a movie/swim or sleepover (some combo) instead of a friend party - very low key and not really birthday-like so much as a guy pal outing. We just treat them out for something a day or two before his birthday. He outgrew parties quite young.

Sounds like fun :) Hope he has a great birthday!
