My 3 year old wants me to hold her stomach when she goes poop on the potty. She is newly potty trained so I know she will get used to this but I was wondering if anyone had experienced this with their child? How can I explain to her that her poop is not a body part or her stomach isn't going to drop out? Any good book recommendations for this?
I believe there is one called "Everybody Poops". You can also ask your local children's librarian.
It pretty common for them to believe its a part of them. They get very anxious about loosing a part of them. Do you have a pet or live close to a pet store? You can show her their poop and how it's not part of them.
Otherwise..this too, shall pass..lol!
We always tell the kids that it's the left over food your body didn't need to get big and strong. Your body needs to get rid of the left overs to make room for the good food it needs to grow.
It's just your body throwing out the trash, nothing important :)

Go to amazon.com, click on books and then type in "poop". You can't believe how many books there are for your little girl to look at! Or like Mymission said, go to the library.
