2Yr and Preschool - 1 Day or 2?? - Barrington,IL

We have a child who misses the "school cut off". So next Sept he's not quite 2 yrs old. I've found a preschool 2 yr old program that will take him. It's just the typical 9-11am type of thing.

My question is for your mamas, I'm going to enroll him so I get a break and he gets to play with "friends" and learn to be away from me. Is 1 day a week (2hrs) appropriate? Another mom who referred us there said she wouldn't do less than 2 days a week b/c the kids "forget" the school and get anxious and fussy all over again. She said 2 days a week, like Tues and Thurs keeps it fresh in their minds so they don't get anxious.

Since our son is only 2 I'm not sure. My husband doesn't think he should go at all since it's still 3 years until he starts K. I'm not seeking a "school" yet, more just a couple of hours of ME TIME since I've been with him 24/7 since birth.

NOTE: we had our older kids in preschool starting at age 2. Both were very social and it wasn't an issue. But this child is more clingy and is younger than the others were. I just don't want to feel "trapped" chasing a crazy 2 yr old around the house ALL THE TIME next year, esp when the weather gets colder again.

What do you think?

What can I do next?

I would even go as far to say do 3 days a week... mon wed and fri... when you do just tues and thurs, those tuesdays are going to be HELL... for you and him!! he will have 4 days at home then be thrown back into school every week. Mondays are always hard (even for adults) after having 2 days in a row home and i think its never too earl to start preparing them for MONDAYS!

I have my 2 year old in M/W preschool and she loves it. She loves it so much, I would feel bad just sending her one day a week. I love the 2 days a week too. She goes for 5 hours a day (2 hours are nap). I love that I can clean the house and do household chores on one day, and then have a complete day to myself to catch up on TiVo, sleep, etc. I 100% think that I am a better mom because of it. I don't nearly get as frustrated or overwhelmed like I used to.

I vote for 2 days. I'd be afraid you would deal with separation anxiety at each weekly drop off if you did just one day rather than two.

1 day is plenty. I would alternately seek a mommy and me activity or start him in a tummbling class or something. My kids frst school, experience wasn't until they were 5 1/2 or 6, but they had other activities starting around 3 or 4. My vote, keep him home and enjoy him, he is still a baby...

I would say two. Often times children that young start to thrive on routine, and two day a week will help with that.

Two days of two hours at a time is not too much. I would do two days a week. It's more of a routine for him and a break for you.

My daughter at 2 was at daycare six hours a day, five days a week.

My kids went to two year old preschool M-W-F from 9-12 as soon as they turned 2. I have 2 with November birthdays so they were actually in that two year old room for two years in a row. I would say at least 2 days, 3 is better. I don't think they would learn the routine going just once a week, and I agree that you would run into more prolonged separation issues with once a week. At our school, no one is crying after week 1!!
