A friend of mine has a son who will be 3 in Feb. He is very smart. Can recognize all letters, writes certain letters, coount to 20, knows all shapes, can point out different types of cars, etc. He just started going to a preschool type place, M-F ###-###-####. She is considering sending him on just MWF, since T and TR are review days. What are your alls opinions? five days a week or three?? Thanks :)

What can I do next?

Preschool isn't about academics (or it shouldn't be). It's about social learning. If kids pick-up on early literacy concepts (shapes, colors, letters, etc) then that's great! If not, that's okay too. The whole point is to start learning "how to learn" in a group situation. They learn to interact with their peers, negotiate and follow social norms.

There is no harm in pulling back to three mornings a week, as long as he will be engaged in activities at home on the "off days".

This is a tough one. If he's a child who does well with consistency, going 5 days a week can be helpful. Preschool is not just about academics, but also about negotiating getting through the day with the entire group, so your friend should check in with the teacher and see how that end (the social/emotional end of things) is getting along. Some kids find that the social work of preschool is *work*, and being not three yet, he might do well with down time. I don't think anyone other than she and her child's teachers can find what's best for him. The short day is appealing and appropriate to his age, and review is nice, too. I personally would do 5 days for my kiddo if I could, but he's 3.5 y.o. Each child is different!:)

My son will be three in December-we started sending him to PS in August. 2 1/2 days a week. If we could afford it I would send him 3 days a week. He's gotten into the groove and loves it.

But I think at this age 5 days is to much. Just my personal opinion, but there is plenty of time for them to be spending 5 days a week (even if it's only half days), in school. I think the 3 days is a nice balance of mom time and school time.

I put my son in preschool 2x's per week when he was 2 and 3x's per week when he turned 3...I think for a almost 3 year old, 3x's per week is plenty~

My child is two (almost 3) and goes 5 days a week for a few hours. I need the break as I am pregnant and have 2 other children.
She gets to have fun, paint, etc. and comes home happy. There is NOTHING academic I want for her right now. All I want is for her to have fun at school. Real school, starting at age 5, no kid likes. Let her have fun while she can. Plus, what kid wants to sit home all day?

5 days seems like an awful lot for a 2 year old. I'd opt for the 3 day - or even a 2 day program.

Oh I didn't know they went to preschool at 2.... hmm I wonder if my daughter is behind. I think 3x a wk would be good if he can recognize things kindergarteners can and 2 are review days.

Depends on whether she wants to sleep in on tues and thurs I guess? If her son is loving it and she doesnt mind taking him there every day then I dont know what the problem is. Does she think tues and thurs are boring for him? If it's cheaper to drop two days, I would. Sounds like her son is doing really well and probably only needs the social skills right now and not so much for the academics since he's way above average already.
