2Nd Week of Bleeding

I have been having menstral bleeding for 2 straight weeks now. I'm kind of freaking out and not sure whats going on. I have had a very irregular cycle for the past few years as well as a miscarriage. Everytime I have gone to get checked, it is blamed on stress/weight gain(or sudden loss). I started bleeding all of a sudden and it has only lightened up for one day after 7 days of heavy bleeding. Has anyone gone through this before? I am unsure if I want to go through the trouble of getting another day off of work only to be told its stress-related. FYI I am not under as much stress as before. Also have not been to the Dr.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Some of you mamas were right on. I went in to 2nd appointment and the dr told me I was "borderline" having PCOS. Yesterday I had an ultrasound and I am starting metformin today. Hopefully this will all be worked out soon. Thank you for all your help. I knew exactly what questions to ask when I went in for my appointment. Have an AWESOME day :)

Hi!
I had the same thing happen to me (minus the miscarriage) when I was about 26 or 27. I had gone my whole life having odd periods but mostly they were non existant for months at a time. When I got it one time and it lasted 2 weeks I called the Dr and they told me it might be normal and to let it go another week!!! At the 3 week mark I was still bleeding so I went in and they put me on progesterone and about a week later it stopped. I know the Dr had mentioned that I might need a D&C if it was wacky again. Since takeing the progesterone for a few months things got back to my "normal"

see your dr. for sure. I had that problem and it ended up being due to my IUD. I had the paraguard and that causes more bleeding and can lead to endometriosis. I recently swithced to a mirena and that takes your periods away and is much more convenient (unless you're trying for a baby) Good luck!

First, I'd recommend you get a second opinion if your problems are always blamed on stress/weight gain or loss. Usually, there are things causing those issues, especially bleeding. Have you had a pregnancy test lately? Just a thought you said you were newlywed. I was married six months when I got pregnant with my first daughter. You don't mention if you are on birth control or not, so I thought I'd ask about the pregnancy. Once, I was bleeding really heavy, big clots and got dizzy. My friend who is a nurse said many women have miscarriages and don't even know it. I didn't go to the Dr. because it mostly lasted the day and night.

I would go see the Dr. Felicia, don't let them tell you it's stress, tell them you want some tests to see what is going on if you don't have success, I'd switch to another Dr. one who is willing to run tests and at the very least do some bloodwork.

Take care of yourself, and I hope you feel better soon~

I don't want to scare you because it could be nothing, but I had an ectopic pregnancy that went undiagnosed for about 2 1/2-3 mos. We had just started trying to get pregnant. I took the pg test and it came back neg. and then I started bleeding. It started out like a normal period and then it seemed like it was ending and then it would just get heavier. Then it would start to slow down and just kept repeating like that. I started getting lightheaded and had really bad pains really high up on my right side (original Dr. told me the pain was too high for it to be an ectopic, wrong!) When I went in the first Dr. knew we had been trying to get pregnant and since I told her the pg test that I took a LONG time before that came back neg. all she did was give me 10 days of hormones to try and get the bleeding to stop. That didn't fix anything and I just started feeling worse. To make a long story short I ended up being rushed into emergency surgery because I had an ectopic pregnancy and my tube was about to burst! So keep an eye on how the bleeding is going and how you're feeling and maybe take a pg. test. If it doesn't stop soon I would make an appt. Good luck and I'm sorry you're having to go through this. I hate it when Dr.s blow you off and don't really give you any answers.

I would recommend a dr visit. My dr always tells me to come see him if I bleed more than 7 days.

I also have had miscarriages in the past. How recent was your last miscarriage? Could it be another one?

I would rather them tell me it is stress related than have it be something serious and not do anything.

Yes, after two weeks of bleeding you should go to the doctor and have things checked out. Or...at least call your doctor, maybe they can answer your questions over the phone so you don't have to make a trip down unless it's necessary.

I had horribly irregular periods until I was diagnosed with a thyroid problem. I had both extremes in my life; first with them being very scant and few and far between (I was also at my lowest weight ever and felt I could eat anything) and then very heavy and lasting 1 to 1 1/2 weeks after having my daughter which is also when I started to gain unexplained weight. It was found that I had hyperthyroidism when I was in my early twenties (confirmed by doctor and bloodwork) and after having my daughter in my mid twenties I have developed hypothyroidism. I had lost a pregnancy over a year ago and began taking natural progesterone hoping it would make things normal but nothing helped. I was having a difficult time conceiving with my current pregnancy and noticed my periods were really wacky, heavy, and long. I had my blood checked and sure enough I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I conceived my current baby 1 month into taking a synthetic thyroid hormone and have had absolutely no problems so far (I am 27 weeks). It might be worth the lab work to have it checked out. It goes so underdiagnosed it is really sad because the symptoms of both are found in so many other conditions. Best of luck and hope you get some answers!

Ask your doctor about the possibility of having PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). Metformin (diabetic med) was the medication that worked for me to regulate my cycle. Good luck!
