Healthy Baby After 2 Miscarriages?

I had an ultra sound today after having some bleeding this morning. I'm 5 weeks 6 days but the ultra sound said 4 weeks 2 days. The tech also saw what she thought were contractions so she said the bleeding could be the beginning of a miscarriage. I have 2 healthy, beautiful children, had a miscarriage last September and now this. Has anyone had 2 (or more) miscarriages and had healthy babies after that? My doctor said last time that if I had another miscarriage he would do some testing to see if there was an explainable reason behind this. Has anyone found a reason for repeated miscarriages?

Thanks ladies,

R.

30 yrs ago my first 2 pgs were miscarried at 10 and 11 weeks. Blood work and genetic testing revealed nothing, don't think they did hormonal testing back then. Had other tests that showed I have a bicornate (heart shaped) uterus. 3rd pg was a charm and delivered a daughter. Then had a son no troubles. Then miscarried about 6 weeks and then delivered a daughter.

I had 3 children, then 2 miscarriages in a row. One at 10 weeks and one at 12 weeks. My next and final pregnancy resulted in a healthy girl who is now 19.

One of my best friends had 3 miscarriages before she carried a baby full term. She went on to have 4 beautiful healthy children.

Hang in there. If you have another... you may want to think about looking into a holistic doctor who would be willing to look at your overall health... look at vitamin levels, hormonal balance etc.... Sometimes western medicine doesn't catch some things that a naturopathic or holistic doctor would.

A friend of my moms... her DIL .... tried for 10 years to get pregnant. Her doctors tried everything. Finally they found she had a vitamin deficiency that wasn't allowing her to conceive. Can't remember what vitamin. After they leveled that out she got pregnant right away and now has 3 kids. :-)

I had 3 in 11 mos time. All were different. The first was a partial-molar pregnancy. I needed a D & C. The second I was dilated so they did a vacuum curettage in the ER dept. (I was on the pill with these 2). Then I went off the pill (Dr recommendation), and had a 3rd. Then I had the testing done.

It was determined my uterus was filled..all but a thumbnail space..with scar tissue. They had no way to know if it was the CAUSE of them, or the RESULT of them. I was in my early 20's. They diagnosed Ashermans Syndrome, which is a scarring/adhesion issue.

I had surgery to remove it all (after a few months of heavy duty hormone pills...OMG I coulda killed a man...any man...and maybe gotten away with it...boy-o-boy the anger!!! Hormones were to soften the uterus up for the surgery). After popping a small hole in my uterus during surgery...a warning I was told of...no biggie I guess in the grand scheme..another little incision thru my belly button this time to repair it..a tiny band-aid I was confused about until out of anesthesia so they could explain.

2 mos later I knew I was pregnant (was told NOT to get preggers until all the top docs they sent my file to had come back with their opinions...OOPS! Getting preg was not my problem...did it twice on the pill..it was staying pregnant that was my issue). All was well...they said Top Docs consensus was to get pregnant NOW knowing my insides were free of adhesions. I beat them to it. I was monitored very close...lots of ultrasounds. Had Hyper-emesis (morning sickness gone totally wacko...had to have home IV's for 5 1/2 months...sometimes during the day...missed some work..but hooked up all night, every night with the fluids and vitamins injected into it. Hubby got good at that. I was a nanny for 2 doctors so that helped..they were understanding)

At the end , my daughter was a frank breech presentation so I had to have a scheduled C Section.....but a healthy, chubby blue eyed girl was finally mine!

I wish you the best of luck!!! Think positive..I did and after it all, it was worth it. She is my only child.

Hi R.,

So sorry that you are going through this. I know it's hard. I had three miscarriages (at 6 months, 10 weeks and 4 weeks) before having my two beautiful, healthy daughters. The doctor ran every test on me and even did some bloodwork on my husband, but he never found any reason.

Take care of yourself.

I haven't read the previous answers, but this has been my experience. I had a m/c in 2004, a wonderful boy in 2005, m/c in 2008, m/c in 2009, a beautiful baby girl in 2010 and a m/c in 2011 after seeing a heart beat. After my last m/c we did a bunch of blood work that all came back negative. Negative is good, but doesn't give us answers. I am still optimistic and ready to start TTC again. I am sorry for what you are going through right now and I wish you the very best in the future. I know it is a struggle now and in the weeks and months afterwards, but if it is what you want then please don't give up hope.

Yes, I had two miscarriages. I insisted on testing b/c my miscarriages were late -- after 15 weeks. My problem was easily fixed and I have a very healthy, beautiful 4 year old daughter now.

Insist on testing now. Medical protocal calls for testing after two miscarriages. I wouldn't try again without testing. If your current doc won't do the testing or refer you, then look for a reproductive endocrinologist in your area and make an appt.

Good luck!

I had two early term miscarriages and now have two very healthy kids. My cousin had 5 miscarriages before her two kids. In my case, we never looked for a cause, but in my cousin's case she was found to have a vitamin K deficiency. We had never heard of vitamin K until then! Her kids are now 18 and 14, and mine are 16 and 14, so this was all a while ago.

I also have several friends/acquaintences that had misscarriages prior to healthy births. It is absolutely possible, even probable that you can have another healthy pregnancy. I know it is hard, but hang in there.

I know i am late, but wanted to let you know my experience. I had 3 healthy beautiful children and wanted a 4th. Then, had 3 miscarriages in a row before having my 4th beautiful baby. I had testing after the second which didn't amount to anything except worry. After the 3rd miscarriage, I tried progesterone suppositories (just for the first trimester) as soon as I got a positive pregnancy test. That seemed to do the trick! Now, I have a bouncy 6mo baby boy! ;)

I had 5 before we had our son and one in between our son and daughter. So after six total...i say yes, you can have healthy pregnancies.

I did have some issues that allowed the 5 to happen and I had to have 3 before my doctors finally intervened and started trying to help.

I had to take baby aspirin and progesterone for the first trimester or was it the first two trimesters...I also had a uterine growth that showed up after having a dye test run that needed removal to carry a pregnancy to term.

So, you might ask if they can run the simple blood tests NOW so if it is easy like low progesterone you can fix it before a third miscarriage.

HUGS!!

My aunt had about 6 miscarriages when trying to get pregnant at 40. No explanation, although they basically blamed it on her age and egg quality. She had a healty and very brilliant son who is now in his 20s!!

I had 2 miscarriages between my two kids. Once at 6 weeks and one at 4 months. They did all kinds of testing. All inconclusive. My youngest daughter is healthy, fabulous, and sent from heaven to make me feel like a good mom. She is amazing even though I worried through the pregnancy it turned out OK. I cannot make any promises but eating healthier and getting more sleep seemed to make me feel better.

I didn't read all the posts, I'm short on time but having been there I felt the need to reply. I have 3 wonderful, healthy older children that I had no issues conceiving (birth control babies, every one of them) and no bleeding or similar complications. Fast forward and my youngest is now 8 and we wanted another. I m/c'd twice, both times very early 6 ish weeks, which is a blessing and a curse. After the second they ran tests and I have a gene mutation that causes clotting issues (something that I have always had, even though I had no trouble with my older kids). I was on high doses of folic acid and aspirin and able to have a healthy baby boy who is now almost 5 months old. Other than the meds it was a very normal pregnancy with no issues other than my utter terror something would go wrong. My exact diagnosis was the MTHFR gene mutation, sometimes blood thinners/injections, are required but I got lucky and we didn't have to go that route, had I lost a 3rd that would have been the next step. Good luck, it is possible things will be fine this time (I take it they checked things like your progesterone levels ect. already because of the bleeding, if not they should, they should also check your hcg levels and be sure your numbers are increasing, this will give you a better idea of what is going on right now).

Well, it isn't modern but my Grandmother did. She had 10 pregnancies total and only 5 live births. order (from what I understand) was 1 live, 2 miscarriages, 2 live, 3 miscarriages, 1 live, so it is possible even back in the 50's and 60's when my parents were born and they were basically in the stone age of medical care!

Yep. I've had too many to count, mostly early on (first 12 weeks). The hardest was losing at a little over 6mo.

My son was conceived last.

I have no problem getting pregnant, I have a very difficult time staying pregnant. In my case, my placentas get too big and heavy and rip away from the uterine wall.

So sorry! My story - I had two miscarriages (one at 6 weeks, the second at 11 weeks) then I had my son, perfectly healthy, then another miscarriage at 9 weeks, then my daughter, again perfectly healthy. I don't have reasons for my miscarriages, my dr said we could do some testing but my insurance won't cover it and it isn't positive that it would give us an answer. I've heard most drs wait until 3 miscarriages to do any testing.
Good luck! *hugs*

I had a really early miscarriage, then one at 11 weeks. I insisted on testing for the 2nd one, the results said it was a very common chromosomal problem. It made me feel better BUT ended up being very expensive as I had to pay the deductable on my insurance. That, in addition to the very expensive ultrasound that wasn't covered (because i was no longer pregnant, as they found out) plus the procedure to move the miscarriage along ended up being a huge bill.
Having to pay that much was like adding insult to injury. Something to think about.

I went on to have a healthy pregnancy 6 months later, and now have a healthy 10 week old.

good luck!

R.,
I had three before I had my son. My pg with him was normal, healthy & uneventful.
Although I was 39 when I delivered him--age was not a factor--it was a low progesterone during the luteal phase for me. Prog. suppositories did the trick apparently for me.
Good luck & God Bless

R.,
Sorry to hear about your miscarriage and possible second miscarriage. I had two miscarriages and have had two healthy babies since then. My doctor told me that they don't consider it abnormal until you have had 3 miscarriages, so they didn't do any testing or anything to determine what if anything had caused them. I did end up taking progesterone suppositories from ovulation through my first trimester of my third pregnancy. That pregnancy I had my first child. Not sure if the progesterone played a part or not. My doctor said it is supposed to help the egg attach to the wall of the uterus.

Best of luck to you.

I've had miscarriage, live birth, miscarriage, live birth, then 2 miscarriages. My lost pregnancies ranged from 5 weeks to 12 weeks. If we decide to try again in the future we will DEFINITELY be doing all sorts of testing first to see if there is a cause that can be prevented. Two miscarriages usually don't prompt a doctor to do anything out of the ordinary, but three or more does. Also ask your mom or aunts about their pregnancy history. My mom had a miscarriage and a still birth baby and the doctors gave her no reason other than "these things happen." That's the same reason I've gotten, even though we are sure there is probably something hormonal going wrong :( Good luck to you!
