my grandson is turning 2 in october. Last year I got him a ball pit that he loves, but I would like to top it off with another great 2nd year gift. Do any grandmothers or moms have any suggestions what a good gift would be? He is very active, he loves balls, books..and he has a lot of them.

What can I do next?

If there is enough room in the house how about a kitchen set, a tent or playhouse type structure (pops open, folds down), a tunnel for crawling through, a slide that can be moved outdoors during warm weather, an art easel, an adjustable height basketball hoop.

If space is an issue how about an instrument set, a learning laptop or learning/activity table, puzzles, playdoh set.

My two sons (22 months and 3 1/2 - 19 months apart) love, love LOVE anything with trains. My older son got his first Thomas train at about 1, but wasn't too interested until about two. The second one has been interested since he was about 1, mostly because his older brother plays with them all the time.

As I am typing, they have woken up and ran downstairs to play with their trains again like they do every day. It has provided them months and years of entertainment at this point.

You can actually get some of the wooden trains on Learning curve's Web site http://shop.learningcurve.com/thomaswoodenrailway/categor... for $2 or so - they are usually $10- $20 each in the stores.

There are 3 types of Thomas track/play sets. Wooden, take and carry and another one so just make sure you get the ones that work together if you do.

Best of luck!

I like the idea of the adjustable basketball hoop. Or a small t-ball set. My son had a set that was a t-ball/bat/golf club/golf ball/golf cup combo that he LOVED playing at 2! (I think it was Fisher-Price...
Also, it might be the time to get him a Thomas the Train toy. Hang onto your wallet, Grandma--this will most likely take off like wildfire! It's a CULT! LOL
