2.5 Yr Old with Chronic Sinus Issues - Need Help and Advice Please.

My daughter is 2.5 and suffers from severe sinus problems. Our first step was an Allergist. We did blood work, tested for allergies and tested her immune system. Both came back fine. No allergies, immune system OK. Next step was ENT. They recommended we remove her adenoids. We did so. For the past 1.5-2 yrs my daughter has suffered with a sinus infection monthly. It's never her ears, throat, or chest. It's only her nose and according to her pediatrician she is very healthy otherwise. I hoped that removing the adenoid help the problem, but so far it hasn't. Im at a loss about what to do or where to go and Im hoping that there is another mother out there that is having or has had the same problems with her child as Im having with mine. My baby is just miserable. If anyone has any advice, please email me. Thanks-G.

Ok well this is from someone that has had three sinus surgeries and had a son that struggled as well. I really suggest that you use a rinse that can be purchased at Walgreens/CVS called NeilMed Rinse. It the one that comes with a bottle (not the kettle) that really irrigates the sinuses and not just moisturizes then. I actually used an ear bulb with my son when he was little but I wouldn't recommend it since you can cause a laceration if you don't know just how far to go in and they wiggle/cry alot. I would do this both upon waking and before bed EVERY day for a week or more and see if things are better. Is her nose runny most of the time? If it is and it's clear to a light yellow color I would also put her on a child's dose of Zrytec for a week to help dry things up but the flush should really help in keeping things cleared out so an infection doesn't set in. It's really hard to get them used to of the procedure but well worth the results. Soon both you and her will be used to of it. Also get her on a good muti vitamin, if you don't already and some powdered probotics to help her immune system out. I think the key is to become "religious" about doing it and you should see results.
Best Regards,
C.

We use the baby saline sprays and those help a lot. I just took my 15 month old to her ENT (she had adenoids removed at 11 months) because she was starting to have a lot of sinus problems again. They recommended ENT SOL. It is an over the counter saline spray that has a higher concentration of saline so it is a little more effective. We use it at night and before naps and use the other during the day. If you go look for it, I would call the drug store first because they don't all stock it.

There is an acupuncturist in Plano, called Steve Homoky and he does wonders with kids and allergies and sinuses. He does not use needles with kids, but he can help get rid of them all together.

IgE food testing and IgG food sensitivity testing may be useful. Casein (milk) and gluten(wheat+) products are big culprits when it comes to allergies. Food is often overlooked as the cause of problems. And doc can do IgE testing but you'll have a more difficult time convincing a doc to do IgG testing. Alletess has a 90 food IgG test for about $85.

We have dealt with chronic sinus issues for a while in my almost 2 1/2 year old son, that is up until about 2 months ago. After all the testing and removal of his adenoids he was constantly having sinus infections. FINALLY, our ENT had us start using a nebulizer with two different drugs (one is a topical antibiotic, the other is for inflammation) he hasn't had an infection since! At first we used the nebulizer twice a day for like two weeks, then just once a day for a week or so. We haven't used it in quite a while and he has been sinus infection free! I don't have the names of the medications with me, but they have to be compounded and our ENT has a relationship with a pharmacy that is out of town but ship overnight. If you want more info send me a PM and I can respond to it from home when I have access to the names of the meds.

Good luck!

For my family the only solution we found that worked were Shaklee vitamin programs. We went from being at the doctor weekly (Kids - chronic sinus, tonsilitis, and ear infections, Me - chronic sinus and bronchitis) to going once a year for check-up only. This has worked for the past 19 years.

Sounds just like my friend's lil' boy. They did food testing, through Immuno Labs (all labs are NOT created equal) and he had several foods he was eating that was causing the build up. If a child or adult is having sinus issues their immune system is NOT okay. I HIGHLY recommend the Immuno Labs....the place I went to have the testing was Dr. Shepherd at Mountain Health in plano.....great guy. This test has corrected my two daughters' ear infections, my GI issues, and many many friends who have done the same for various reasons it has helped by correcting the core of the issue in the body. Please let me know if you have questions.....
