2 Name Questions

I am 32 weeks with baby #3, our second boy. We have a 5 year old DD named Havilah and a 3 year old DS named Silas. My husband and I are having a rough time coming up with a name for this little guy. One name we are considering is Elias. So here are my two questions.

1. How would you pronounce Elias? (E-li-as, or A-li-as)
2. Does Elias sound too much like Silas?

EDIT:
We are wanting another BIblical name that is somewhat unique as both of our other kids names. DH really likes Elias and I am unsure since it is close to Silas and we can't agree with how to pronounce it.

A few other names we are considering are Isaac, Judah, Roman, and Joel.

We are thinking of having his middle name be Levi since it means Matthew and that is DH's name is and Silas' middle name is Matthew. We thought it would be cool to have both boys named after daddy in a unique way.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the input. I am thinking of not using Elias more and more. DH still really likes it but I have said no for now. Our next top pick is probably Roman Levi. Thanks for all your help.

I think Elias does sound too much like Silas personally. Unless you are gonna call him Eli, which makes it more distinguishable.
Different people will say the word differently too, as far as the E sound or A sound... you probably wont be able to control that.
I love the name Silas :) How bout trying Sloan for the 2nd boy, it goes well with Silas. Silas and Sloan sounds like a Law Firm.

If I saw the name in writing I would pronounce it E-li-as.
It is close to Silas, IMHO
What about Eli?
Just a random thought

Congrats on the soon to be addition.

My vote is too close to Silas. I do love the name though.
In the heat of the moment when they are 9 and 12 you will get the names wrong every time. I do it with my dog and my son, Finn and Philip.
I do like Elijah and Eli, both of those have a definite long E in the front. I would say Eh-lias.
And Sloan is nice too.

Hi K.,
Congrats on #3!!!
I'd pronounce it E-li-as and yeah, I think it sounds too much like Silas.
When I saw the name Silas a few other names popped into my head: Micah, Jonah, Issac, Isiah, Jonas. Don't know if you're going for a particular theme with the names or trying to keep both boys with 5 letters in their names or not.
I like the uniqueness (is that a word, LOL?) of the names you picked, can't wait to hear what you name the little guy!

I think that Elias or which ever way you would pronounce it, sounds too close to Silas. That is just my opinion. I love the name Roman and have never run into anyone with that name. If you want different stay away from Isaac, because a few years ago there was a whole Isaac/Isaiah name
phenomenon / trend that hit many areas. Joel is not commonly used either, but it may be a bit of a tongue twister with Levi. I don't care for Judah but again that is just my opinion. I am sure you will make the best choice for your family. :)

Can't be worse than:

Evan
Logan
Megan
Jullian

Friends of ours named their kids rhyming names. I see them everyday and still have to THINK before I actually say their name. Well more like yell at them to get up and get dressed. (I wrangled them off to school.) LOL

Hi K.,
I think they sound very similar and will probably be mispronounced a lot. I would like to throw a vote for Roman Levi. I think that is a great name and I have never met a Roman so it would probably be the case with all his classmates growing up.
Best Wishes!

Since Elias (I pronounce it E-lias) sounds a lot like Silas, maybe a more different sounding name. Our friend just had a baby and named him Elan. It's nice and very different. But if you stick w Elias I love the nickname Eli. Other ideas, Elliot or Rowan.

Oooh. Yeah, way too close, IMO.
Like the suggestion of Eli/Elijah.
Love Judah. Would have used that one myself but we have friends w/ a Judah...
Having a Biblical name was important to me as well.

Others I considered: Ezekial and Ephraim. We went w/ Ezra. :)

GL! Like your Levi connection!

I have a 1 year old son named Silas James, who was almost a Linus James! I think Elias is beautiful, and it does not sound too much like Silas to me as long as the pronunciation is with long e.

I would say ah-Lias and yes it sounds too much like Silas. Maybe just eli? Or Elijah? What is it you like about Elias? The vowel? Three syllables? Then we can maybe get more suggestions! Congrats!

edit: I love Roman Levi!

Yes, it is too similar. Cute if they were twins, but no.

What about Elijah?
Or just Eliah without the s?

Maybe it's because I speak spanish and my son's name is Elijah. In spanish it's Elias. We say E-lee-us.

I would pronounce it E-li-as (but only because we used to have an Elias at daycare!). Elias and Silas do have a similar sound. I'm sure some people will give you grief. But some people won't think twice. And those will be the ones to listen to! What's the middle name?

Those two names sound pretty similar to me. My SIL named her boys Brayden and Jayden. They aren't twins. We always say the wrong name!
I vote Judah. I absolutely LOVE that name, and Judah Levi is a nice strong name!

I definitely think it sounds too much like Silas and that you would find yourself tongue-tied at times when you were calling the boys.....you would pronounce it E- li-as.
I like the other names you have picked too.
However, I would not recommend Joel with Levi, since there are two L's right together.
I like the name Micah, and Jeremiah too.
Best wishes.
