my nephew had this. all came out ok. he needed two repairs though. no self esteem issues ever and he didnt remember a thing
Hi,
I have looked at a few of the threads here on this topic but I still want to post my own question.
My 2 year old is scheduled for surgery for mild distal hypospadias (with circumcision). I have struggled to make the decision as I wasn't sure it was completely necessary. I'd really like to hear from anyone who has had this experience. What was the outcome of the surgery? Were you happy with your choice? What were the first days of recovery like and how long before you felt like your son was back to his normal self again? (both emotionally and physically). Did your son seem traumatized by the experience in any way? Any answers would be very much appreciated!!

My son was 10 months old at the time. When he first came out of surgery, it was very difficult. He was very upset, and I couldn't pick him up. After a couple of hourse pain meds kicked in and he was able to sleep. The next day was much better. We gave him pain meds as soon as it was time during the first 48-72 hours, then tapered off and eventually switched to tylenol or ibuprophen when he seemed like he needed it. His body needed to heal, but emotionally he was fine.

A couple of us mentioned not being able to hold our child immediately after surgery. When my son came out of surgery, his wrists and ankles were in retraints so that he wouldn't touch the surgical area. It was tough. You can touch them and hold their hand, but not being able to pick them up is tough. I would say the first 6-9 hours after surgery were the most difficult.
I was a little freaked out by the double diapering and just not wanting to hurt him. But the nurses helped me the first couple of times, and I got the hang of it.
Mine was 6 months old he did very well with the procedure no need for any additional surgeries or repairs it was done correct the first time...There was little pain for him he didn't cry much just when we first seen him then on our way home he was great he was up & playing like his normal self the next day yes it was 7 yrs ago but I do remember.Yes i'am happy with the choice I made for him
