Hi My husband and I have been married for 7 years and we are having Christmas at our house for the first time. We really want it to be fun and relaxing for everyone. Both sides of the family will be there. (yikes) Does anyone have any good holiday drink recipes or appetizers? Or any good games or traditions that you do as a family on Christmas day? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Everyone come to my moms house with about 5 really small presents wrapped. When I say small I mean small, cute notecards, lip balm, candy anything that is super inexpensive and little. Then we all put the gifts in the middle of the table and we play dice. You have to get a pair to grab a present from the middle. You don't open any gifts until the very end of the game. So once all the gifts are gone from the middle of the table people can start taking gifts away from each other. what happens is that there is always one gift that people want (even without knowing what it is) and they fight over it. It's funny because when you take away for a short time you just stop the game and open the gifts and find out that people were fighting for a box of kleenex. One year my daughter and brother fought over a box of peanut brittle. At the end of the game the brittle was dust because they keep pouncing on it. Anyway, we have a lot of fun with it.

Apples to apples is a blast - hey, I may go get that for my holiday entertaining - thanks Nicole! ;)

C. - If you have a bunch of kids and you're exchanging gifts is always fun to hide them and make the kids do a hunt for them. One adult would have to know whose gifts are where and tell the child whether he's "hot" or "cold" when it comes to finding his gifts.

Meatballs are great appetizers - heiz chili sauce and a jar of grape jelly - heat it up, brown the meatballs in a separate pan, then put them in the sauce. What I love about this is that you can brown the meatballs, then just throw the chili sauce and grape jelly in a slow cooker, once it's warmed and mixed you just throw the meatballs in the slow cooker and let them cook. People can help themselves and the meatballs will stay warm in the cooker.

We make a HUGE pot of Glogg every year. It's a German or Swedish drink. My brother usually makes it, but I know it has red wine, almonds, raisins, and spiced with cinnamon & orange rind. I think he might add rum too. He lets it cook for a couple hours and it is served warm. He usually brings it over in a crockpot. Very good, makes for a very merry (and maybe a little drunk) Christmas! We also sing christmas carols as we clean up, maybe it's b/c of too much glogg! We even has booklets so everyone will know the words.
A super easy appetizer is layer goat cheese or cream cheese on a plate then top with pesto (not too much just a thin layer) and then cut up sun dried tomatoes on top. Serve with crackers. It comes out very pretty and is very good. I do prefer it with the cream cheese.
Have a wonderful Christmas!

Good luck with that...I know it causes anxiety planning something like that. I don't have any suggestions for food/drinks but I do for games...every year we play a different game - Scene-It, Trivial Pursuit 90's edition, LCR (the dice game) or Nintendo Wii and we have always had a good time. Even the kids have gotten in on them...good luck
