Weekend Get-a-way Ideas

I would love any advice on weekend getaways in or near the Fort Worth area. My husband and I are going to have a weekend free of kids for the first time in FOREVER!!! Still, we don't want to go too far away or spend too much money. Does anyone recommend a special place to go/stay that would accommodate our need to have time alone and still be within the FW area??? I love downtown FW, but feel like I always go back there as my option. Maybe you all have a new and better idea??? Thanks for the input...I know everyone out there is busy!

There is a beautiful, historic B&B in the Riverside area of Fort Worth. It is just outside of downtown. Kind of hidden but gorgeous grounds and they have jacuzzi tubs in all the rooms/cottages. Here is the website: http://www.azaleaplantation.com/

There are some great places just outside of the DFW area if you are willing to venture just a little.

The historic town of Jefferson, just east of Dallas, is my favorite get away. Historic hotels like the Excelsior house http://theexcelsiorhouse.com/. There are also many, many quaint B&B's, a cute town to rummage through and explore but still not a far off drive.

Historic Granbury is another option. Great shops everywhere to stroll through, even if you are not purchasing. Many places to stay, like the Nutt House http://www.nutt-house-hotel.com/ and take in s ahow at the Opra House http://www.granburyoperahouse.org/.

Main thing is to be together-reconnect as a couple and it is OK to leave the kids behind to refresh and regroup.

Happy Weekending!

You must visit Fredericksburg. We have been going for years and love it. Stay at the Fredericksburg Inn and Suites - it is also a great place to take the kids. I know it is not in the FTW area but you will not regret going. We love to escape to this town and it is only a four hour drive away.

We live in Grapevine and downtown is very cute. There is a B&B near historic downtown and shopping and good restaurants. There is also the Gaylord near and it's fun to just walk around inside if you don't actually stay there. Southlake Town Square is fun if you want to go shopping and it's not too far. They've just opened a new hotel there and they have great restaurants, shops and movie theaters.

My husband and I went on a weekend getaway to some cabins that were very private and romantic. www.popejoyhaus.com They are in Glenrose near Granbury. You have a TV, VCR, hot tub, there are 5 cabins to choose from. The couple is from Germany so all the decorations are German theme. Check out the website, I think it is a perfect kid free location. You can also go see "The Promise" in a great outdoor theater, if it is showing this time of year. We spent 2 nights, we didn't go anywhere the first night, we did visit Glenrose that day. We went to Granbury the second day, and we went to Fossil Ridge the next day on the way home to see all the animals. My husband says next time we go back we are just going to stay in the cabin and not go anywhere. You have a little kitchenette so you can fix your own meals, or there are some nice restraunts around there too. Hope this helps.

We were just at the Gaylord Grapevine Hotel was great. Once inside there is a feeling like you are NOT in this area. It has restaurants, swimming, walking, sports bar, etc. We really enjoyed it and said that we would come again for a weekend get away...not much gas to get there NOR do you have to fly. Hope this helps. J. B

How about Granbury? I hear that is a pretty neat little town that is not too far from FW. Have fun wherever you decide.

My husband and I get away from the FW area by heading over to Frisco. We stay at the Embassy Suites by Stonebriar. It's about $140 a night, but they have an indoor pool/hot tub, free happy hour, and free breakfast. Plus, it's right across the street from Stonebriar and all the great shopping and restaurants. They have some good bars with bands in the area too, if you like the night life. I love it over there!
When we go though, we usually have our kids, so we don't get to experience the night life. But, it's a great time for family too! My son and husband go play games at Dave & Busters while my daughter and I walk the mall. Good luck and good for you for taking a weekend to get away!

Hi L. - congrats on your weekend alone!
Have you ever stayed at the Gaylord Texan? It's a resort in itself - has shopping, things to do, a great spa. Might consider checking that out?

I just saw a great idea yesterday on face book, it at Lewisville lake! You can rent a 7 passenger boat, with driver, that includes driver, gas, wake boards (he will instruct), 2 person tube, etc for $65 an hour! And you could maybe check out a hotel or something to stay at at the lake?!
Keven ###-###-#### for reservations!

Many friends also rave about the StageCoach Inn not far from FW too!

The Inn on Lake Granbury, in Granbury, is wonderful! It's an adult-only B&B...beautiful grounds, tastefully decorated interior, scrumptious breakfast, and only a couple of blocks from the historic district with cute shops and restaurants. There's even a live theater. Also close by is the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. Enjoy your time away!

Try a bed & breakfast in Granbury. Granbury is an hour or less from FW and has great little shops & resturants. They even have a place with live theatre productions. Also, you can boat if you want.

I can't remember where we stayed before, but check out the internet.

Good luck & enjoy!

Ok this is not in Fort WOrth but it should only be like a thirty minute drive for you. My husband and I used to live in Parkwood hill FW area and now live in SOuthlake. However several times in the past when we needed just a night away we would drive to Las COlinas and stay at the 4 season hotel. There is a great pool, bar, the best spa in texas if you ask me and even if you only get a facial or massage you can stay in the spa area all day which is soooo super nice. There are resteraunts, cool river and stuff all around there! Great escape and no flying not much driving but something new! Try i t out sometimes they have specials too on line on the rooms. You chould check it out.
Good luck and happy trip!

What about all the hotels in Southlake/Grapevine area? I believe the Hilton has a weekend special in Southlake town Square. You are in walking distance of all kinds of shopping and food from moderate to upscale dining. Central Market is across the street and on the weekends I think they have a band. There is always something going on over there. If you want to splurge-The Gaylord Texan

What about Grapevine? I've stayed in B&B there before and it was nice and a fun experience. Main street has cute shops and there might be a festival or something going on the weekend you want to go.

another option is a B&B in grandbury (sp?) and do a dinner boat cruise on the lake. its byob and a really fun time. dinner on the boat while the sun sets.
