Hi F.:

My husband just took me on a gondola ride! It takes off from the Omni Mandalay in Las Colinas and goes through the canals. It was wonderful.

Also, having children, I know sometimes you can't spend too much time away from home. How about the Studio Movie Grill on Stemmons (I35). You sit at a table in a movie theater and get to watch and movie and have dinner at the same time. It's a great time saver when you are paying a babysitter!

Have fun!

Come to Grapevine! There is so much to do there and see! The kids would love the Tarantula Train (old timey-train called Puffy) - it goes to the Ft Worth Stockyards where you can walk around, see longhorns, cowboys, shop, etc. OR you can walk around Grapevine and go down by the train Depot and watch the glass blowers, or walk further down that area and talk to the blacksmith still hard at work. We have several shops, wineries in Grapevine and excellent restaurants for all kinds of tastes. www.grapevinetexasusa.com

Kids of all ages love: Dallas Aquarium, Ft Worth Zoo/Aquarium, Omni Theatre/Science and History museum in Ft Worth, the Fair is coming up in Dallas too. Fair Park and American Airlines Center for concerts, etc. Bass Hall in Ft Worth for indoor concerts and plays.

Spend your anniversary on top of the Reunion Tower in Dallas. There is a romantic restaurant up there and you can enjoy the magnificant view and ambiance. The top of the tower revolves around very slowly so you can take in all views of the Dallas area while you enjoy music and each other. Or stay at the Gaylord in Grapevine then go next door to the Glass Cactus for music and dancing (check to see who is playing first of course!)

Shop at Grapevine Mills Outlet mall or downtown Grapevine Main Street.
If you're looking for a church home, Gateway in Southlake is a wonderful place for your family. The youth is strong and full of great kids! Classes for all ages! Join us...www.gatewaypeople.com

Take a look at my personal website and let me know if I can help you in your home as well or if you're interested in hearing more.

I just skimmed the surface of things to do... :)

Have fun!

Hi F.!

Many of the suggestions below are great ones!!! Southlake Town Center, the Ft. Worth stockyards, old downtown Grapevine, Studio Movie Grill, Messina Hof Bed and Breakfast, Bed and Breakfasts around Fredricksburg and the hill country...all are FABULOUS suggestions!

I know you've received a ton of them, but I will add one more to the mix. If you like the bed and breakfast atmosphere, then I have to recommend Selah Ranch. Here's the link to their website: http://www.selahranch.com
It's located in East Texas, and it's about an 1 1/2 hour drive from where you live. It is the Rolls Royce of Bed and Breakfast places. The accomodations are plush, the food is amazing, and the owners as well as the staff are very friendly, kind and servant hearted. I've been there twice with girlfriends, and I am dying to go back with my husband. The word "Selah" is a Hebrew word meaning pause or rest. Selah Ranch definitely provides that atmosphere.

May your date nights and anniversary celebrations continue to fan the flame and may you both continue to delight in the amazing beauty of the marriage covenant!

I took my husband to a B&B in old-town Grapevine. It was within walking distance of the main square, and was a very affordable getaway without being so far away.

Another B&B option that I plan on taking advantage of is run by a dear friend in Fredericksburg. Jacque Rudman runs it, and also teaches cooking classes if you are interested. http://www.jacquerudman.com/index.html She's a doll, and it's also within walking distance of lots of great shopping in a quaint old town in the Hill country. Enjoy your dates!

The Hilton mentioned earlier by another mom is in Southlake Town Square right off Hwy. 114. Town Square is one of my favorite places to window-shop and walk around on cool evenings enjoying an ice cream cone. At the Square ((similar to the one in Flower Mound, but lots more shops)), you can see a movie at Harkins Theatre, eat at Brio's (I like their chicken-under-a-brick), then window-shop until you are ready for ice-cream. Picomolo has Italian gelato, and Milwaukee Joe's is famous for his homemade flavors like "Grandma Fred's Cheesecake." Get your ice cream then walk to one of the large fountains in one of the two plazas and sit on a park bench. If you have a good imagination, you could be on vacation in Rome sitting in a piaza watching the people walk by! Go on a night with a full moon! You could check the internet to find out the day of the next full moon.

Since you don't know the area that well there's a lot for you to do. We do season tickets at Theater Three in Dallas some years, other years we subscribe to another venue. But I really like Theater Three. It's in the Quadrangle, near lots of small, very good restaurants and getting out to see an affordable play (the prices for season tickets are great), is very nice and very much adult time together.

In Lewisville there's a little theater on Main Street, just before Mill Street. Don't know the name, but it has good offerings too.

Then there are the high-school plays... Flower Mound High School and Marcus High School theaters are great. Not like when I was in high-school. Just go to the school websites, click on performing arts, theater and hopefully you'll find it.

Other than plays... there's plenty of clubs... I love the concerts at House of Blues. There's also museums and plenty of places to eat.

Also in Flower Mound, if you haven't discovered Little Pete's on Lake Grapevine, it's kind of fun when they have live music. The food isn't great, but not awful, but the drinks and appetizers are what you go for...

Grapevine has Wilhoites, if you want to go to a biker bar, but don't eat there. Drink.

Also in Grapevine, the Lancater Theater or Palace Theater (the same, just not sure what they call it now) has live music and old movies, check the schedule. Good places to eat in Grapevine.... Ama Lur inside the Gaylord Texan. And any of the many other restaurants in Grapevine.

Southlake... good place to get-away while staying near. The Hilton at Southlake is right there, you can eat, drink, see a movie and walk back to the hotel. Brio's is great italian food. Go for happy hour for cheap appetizers.

F., have you ever been to the Gaylord Texan? It's just down the road from you, and it is a nice hotel/resort and has some night life within it as well!

If you like the arts, be sure to check out the wonderful musicals that tour through Dallas and Fort Worth. Bass Hall in Fort Worth is a gorgeous venue for any event & Sundance Square in FW is fun & relatively safe to wander around in at night.

There are ballets, opera, symphonies with pop concerts and classical concerts, regional theatre productions, touring productions. LOTS of great offerings in the area. The Vocal Majority & Turtle Creek Chorale are two mens' vocal groups that are wonderful - very different - but both are great.

Hi F.!
Welcome to TX!! I agree with a lot of the great suggestions you've received here. If you are open to a bit of a road tip and haven't done so yet, please do San Antonio. The Riverwalk is sooooo pretty at night. Also, I LOVE Austin! The trip to through the HIll Country is so nice and heck while you are there you may as well make a detour visit to the outlets at San MArcos. I swear I hear angels singing when I enter the Pottery Barn outlet there, lol! SO much fun!

Happy Anniversay and welcome!

My husband and I are on a tight budget. We have also been trying to find fun things to do but on our budget. We signed up on the Studio Movie Grill mailing list. We get a free pass for 2 to the movie previews and with a free movie and dinner we spend about $30 and it is a nice night out, saves time that we are away from the kids, and is cool to see the movies bevfore they come out. We have done this a few times and it is great!!

I read the other responses and those are wonderful ideas. I will probably do some of them myself. I have some suggestions for weekend getaways. My husband and I were married at a little winery in Bryan, TX, Messina Hof Winery. They have a B&B, a wonderful 5 star restaurant with what they call a chef's table which is a 4 or 5 course dinner with a different wine with each course set just for the two of you. It's really romantic! You can take a tour of the winery. It's really a place to get out of the hustle and bustle and relax. www.messinahof.com
Also, Austin is only 3 hours away. There's always something to do there. San Antonio is about 4-5 hours away. The river walk is beautiful, especially in the spring or fall! There are great restaurants, hotels, and you can usually find some neat events at the Alamodome. Good luck!
