I would like to start drinking tea, as an attempt to curb my appetite. When I feel the urge to grab a snack, I would like to try drinking tea instead. The only tea I have ever tried is earl grey tea that my mom had once and I thought it was disgusting! I am wondering if there are any yummy tasting teas out there that would be good for me to try? I tend to like more sweet and fruity things. Thank you tea drinkers!
Pretty much any loose leaf tea at Teavana steeped in their "Perfect Tea Maker" would fit the bill. Loose leaf tea can get pretty expensive, but once you've had it, going back to bags is tough. I particularly like their "Youthberry" blend, "Thai Tea" blend and "Weight Loss" blend. And my husband swears by their Earl Grey. If you're near a mall, you're probably near a Teavana. Go in and try some samples.

Some of my favorites are Lady Grey, Tazo passion, and orange spice in any brand, but there are lots of yummy fruit flavor teas. A tip - if it has green tea in it, don't steep more than a few minutes or it will become bitter

I never drank tea and thought it was disgusting until I had my son. They served me tea in the hospital and now I have a box at home. They served Noni tea there, noni is a type of prickly pear looking fruit and tastes delicious. It has a million health benefits too. I also like chamomile and anise, cinnamon, lemon, or relaxing herbs teas. No black teas for me, that still tastes like pure grass.

OMG you HAVE to try real tea made with loose leaves!!! I hated tea until I tried this at Teavana in the mall. I am now hooked! The taste is completely different than tea bag tea. I got this special tea brewer thing from there that you just put your leaves in, pour your hot water and let steep.. You then position over your mug and it filters in. I use their german rock sugar instead of white. Yum!

I am a tea lover! I don't know how much it will curb your appetite, but caffeine usually does that. I love almost any Twinnings tea, especially Lady Grey, English Breakfast, and Irish Breakfast for dark teas. If you want something fun, Lapsang Souchong is awesome! (We call it the "smokey tea" because it smells like smoked meat or cheese but tastes awesome.) For fruitier teas, I like Bigelow's Pomegranate Pizazz, which also makes a really nice iced tea, as well as a lot of Celestial Seasonings teas, including Blueberry. I like a lot of other herbal teas, like Tension Tamer or Sleepytime in the evening. My new favorite fruity tea is a Twinnings Herbal Unwind with African honeybush, mandarin, and orange. It is SO yummy with just a touch of honey added to it. Oh, I also like black licorice flavor and Bigelow makes a Licorice Spice tea that is naturally sweet-tasting, but a lot of people do not like it.
I do, however, also love Earl Grey. I like my teas strong so sometimes leave the bag in while I drink it, or I make loose leaf tea and it can get pretty strong, too.

Oh my goodness - tea has come such a long way! For the most energy-promoting, metabolism boosting, immune-system strengthening options, choose green, white, or black teas. There are so many flavors to choose.
Some of my favs are:
Republic of Tea: Blackberry Sage, Ginger Peach, Black Raspberry Green Tea (LOVE)
Trader Joes: Chamomile, Pomegranate White Tea (LOVE!), Cranberry Green Tea
Good Earth: Vanilla Chai
All of these are great with honey, which also contains antioxidants (the darker the honey, the higher the amount).
NOTE: If you are drinking tea to reap antioxidant benefits in addition to their appetite curbing abilities, do not put milk in them. Milk can actually render the a.o. properties ineffective.
The "Superfruits" - blackberries, raspberries, pomegranates, blueberries, acai, noni, etc - have extremely concentrated amounts of antioxidants to help boost the immune system and protect the body from free-radicals, which can damage cells and leave our bodies prone to aging and illnesses, including cancers. Many teas are now using these fruits.
Drink up and have fun!

I love apricot honeybush. It is the best tea I've ever tasted and is light and just barely sweet. No sugar or honey needed. Just warm, wonderful, and aromatic.
Celestial used to make a combined one but now I have to make it on my own as I can no longer find it. Tazo has a great honeybush and you can combine that with any peach or apricot tea.
Teas in the honeybush family are all very mild and slightly sweet.

I have taken black tea since I was very young. It quells nausea, satisfies the appetite, is an immune booster and anti-carcinogen. I like Ceylon tea on a daily basis. I also like Oolong. I also like English Breakfast and Irish Breakfast tea. Oolong is Chinese and does not taste good with milk. I use lemon.
I put honey in tea and goat milk. You can use milk if you like or half and half.
Enjoy there is nothing more relaxing than a cup of tea.
Also do not drink as many cups as the Brits 6-9 per day. It can give you quite a headache. For me two cups is the maximum per day.

There are TONS of teas out there. Probably the best thing to do is to buy a small "sampler" box - some have 4-5 bags of 4-5 flavors. I like earl grey, but I don't let the tea bag steep in hot water for a long time - the longer the bag is in the hot water, the stronger the taste gets. Celestial Seasonings has lots of fruity teas - berry, etc. If you have friends that are tea drinkers and they do the flavored teas, tell them what you're trying to do and ask if they have recommendations and if you could try one of their favorites. Enjoy!

I read in a magazine recently, that in a study, when people drank 2 cups of water before meals, they lost about 15 pounds over 3-4 months.
Because, liquid makes you full. Thus you eat less.
I like Green tea or Genmaicha Tea.
Or Chamomile tea.
Mint teas are also nice.
Jasmine tea is also nice.
I drink teas, straight as is. I do not sweeten it or put additional things in it.
If I were you, I would just get an assortment box of sampler teas. And just try it. Then you will find your favorites.
all the best,

Mmmmmmm-go to Teavana! They will mix and blend teas you like and they're wonderful hot or cold. I am a huge fan of the Peach Berry Rooibus (Rooibus is an African red tea that has more antioxidents that even green tea). They have a wonderful Blueberry Rooibus too. If you don't have access to a Teavana or other specialty tea store, look in your grocery's coffee and tea aisle or go to a higher-end or specialty grocery like Whole Foods. Look for teas with flavors that appeal to you. I personally love plain green tea all by itself, but many don't. Peppermint tea is fabulous and so is lemon. You can get a wide variety of fruit flavors and other flavors like apple cider in Celestial Seasonings, The Republic of Tea and other brands. Enjoy!

However, I am a fan of Bromley's Decaf Tea. I drink it black or with a slice of lemon. I use no sugar/honey since that brings up terrible memories of being sick when I was little... LOL. My mom scarred me for life! (But that would be another post!)

I also use organic cane sugar, agave syrup or honey instead of the white sugar. I find these sweeten without overpowering the herbs.

I bought it thinking i could get my son a healthy option of ice tea - he didn't go for it, but I like it. You can drink it cold or hot.

Have you tried green tea? You'll probably want to sweeten it up (honey or splenda both taste nice in it). Aside from just curbing your appetite by giving you something to sip on, green tea is actually REALLY good for you. Plus it has caffeine, which is a natural appetite suppressant anyway.
You can probably find a berry or fruit flavored green tea as well... take a trip down the tea isle and get what looks good :)

Mint teas are also really good. We have even made it from mint from the back yard.

I love Tazo Chai tea from Starbucks and then I add some sugar free vanilla syrup (they will sell you the syrup to take home if you ask for it). It's fabulous.
I decided to save a dollar or two and buy the Tazo Chai tea from Target thinking it was the same thing, and it was awful. It was worth a dollar or two more (for 15 tea bags) to buy it from Starbucks.
My 13 year old son and I love to sit and drink tea together. There is something so comforting about it. A funny note - he thinks this particular tea smells like the men's department at Dillard's. There is a manly sort of spicy smell to it. :) I love it!

We drink chai tea often at home, and actually you don't need to pay for the pre-mixed stuff; it's really easy to make yourself, much cheaper, and can be adjusted to your own taste. Take tea bags or put loose leaf tea into a tea egg and put it into a sauce pan with the spices you want to use (we use ground cloves, ground or stick cinnamon, ground ginger root, and crushed cardamom seed--you could just include the spices which are already in your kitchen, whole or ground). Pour some boiling water over the tea leaves and spices, let steep covered for about 5 minutes. Then pour in milk and bring the mixture almost to a boil (it should foam a bit). Put into your mug, add sweetener to taste.
If this process seems too long for you, there are good tea bags with the spices added, such as the Bengal Spice one someone mentioned, and you can get decaf tea too. Or the teas with passion fruit or hibiscus are really good. Happy exploring!

I'm also a huge fan of Celestial Seasonings teas. They have some really great fruity teas, that are great over ice or hot. I love the fruity ones over ice, the most. There are lots of fruity teas out there, I agree with Thea. Take a look down the tea isle and see what you like. There are several brands that offer a variety in the same box, so if you hate it you aren't stuck with a whole box of it.

Also if you're not a fan of the tea hot try it iced. You might like it better.

I suggest you try green tea. It has a lighter flavor than black teas.
Regardless, in the beginning, only steep the tea for a short time...1 minute or so. It will color the water and give it some flavor but it won't be as strong or potentially bitter. THE LONGER IT STEEPS THE STRONGER THE FLAVOR.
Real "Tea" comes from one plant but is processed at 4 levels...black, green, white and oolong. There are also herbal teas and rooibos (red) teas which are herbs, flowers, roots and other flavors.
Black tea is the strongest flavor (earl grey is one variety) and has the most caffeine. It is oxidized the longest which gives it the black color.
Green tea is not oxidized and has a mild grassy flavor.
White tea is the lightest flavor because it is the least processed. It has the most antioxidants and the least caffeine.
Oolong is a slightly oxidized tea. I don't know much about it.
My favorite tea is Stash green tea Chai.
I suggest you search online at different tea companies and see if they have samples.
Or if you visit friends ask if they have tea you can try!
Good luck. I think tea is great!

We are avid tea drinkers and we have about five dozen types at home right now. If you hate earl grey (a stronger black tea) Amy B's list is a good place to start. They are mild and sweeter.
Another fun idea is to find some local tea houses. They LOVE talking tea and will help you choose. You can have a cup there without buying an entire box (or bag). Also you can SMELL the different kinds of teas, which also gives you a pretty good idea of their taste.
Tea is really fun. I hope you get addicted. :o)
My favorite is one called Genmaicha with Matcha Green Tea if you're curious. http://tinyurl.com/4zf84j4
But remember, sugar & honey adds calories to the tea. 1 tablespoon of honey is 60 calories & I believe that 1 tablespoon of sugar is about the same, splenda is "calorie free" but it has it's own issues. So if you add loads of any of these you might as well just be snacking. Eating protein rich foods (such as lentils) will effectively curb your appetite as well.

Welcome to the fabulous world of Tea and tea drinking.
I grew up with only coffee drinkers, everywhere, and I am only a tea drinker, always have been. I'm in love with tea...the relaxing ceremony at home of filling the kettle with cold water, boiling and selecting a tea.
There are literally hundreds of teas to choose from. And Earl Grey as a first choice is a bit pungent of a first cup.
For a plain and simple tea, try English Breakfast with milk and honey.
Fruity teas are truly a personal choice, but I enjoy Coconut Black Tea, hot or cold. And I'm currently mixing some Oolong Peaches 'n' Cream with Black Tea for a morning blend.
My most common blend is one bag green tea, one bag orange pekoe and one bag Chai, or Orange Spice, or Good Earth in a tea pot during the winter months.
Happy Tea Drinking - we are seriously discriminated against in the US.

I just use the lipton green tea bags, they also now have flavored ones. Make sure you let the bag steep at least 3 to 5 minutes to get the full flavor. I usually add a little local honey to mine if I need it sweet, that's a mood thing with me. Don't judge tea to be not as good as coffee right off the bat, I did the switchover quite a few mos back, you just have to start the new habit. I still make a pot of coffee now and then tho. In winter I love my baileys in my coffee on the wknd mornings.
I lost quite a bit of weight since I started drinking green tea and have kept it off except for a few I gained during the holidays that are slowly coming off as we speak :)
