I Need to find the BEST Pediatric ENT doctor in the Dallas Area. I have a 7 year old who has had strep 8 times in 12 months. Her pediatrician recommended that we see and ENT. Does anyone have any good recommendations? Any reviews - good or bad - would be helpful.

Thanks!!

So What Happened?

We ended up using Dr. Jeffrey West in Wylie at the recommend of several people who had used him before. He was fantastic. He had very good bedside manner. The surgery went great. It was fast and her recovery was amazing. I would highly recommend him.

The best doctors in my opinion are in Children's Medical Center. I have a four year old with Down Syndrome has had tubes twice after finding out he couldn't hear. He now has hearing in one ear, half in the other instead of none. Tristan has had open heart surgery at Children's Hospital at the age of one. Their is no other place I would take either of my boys other than children's. I highly recommend Children's. Their ENT is in the Bright Building across from Children's emergency dept. I believe it on the third floor.Children's phone # 214/456-7000 and they will connect you.

Hi N.,

I recommend Dr. Gottlieb of the North Dallas Ear, Nose & Throat office. He is located at 2821 E. President George Bush Hwy., Suite 509, Richardson, TX 75082. (At George Bush Tollway and Renner Rd.) His phone number is ###-###-####. Our pediatrician recommended him when our 8 month old had 8 ear infections during a 4 month span. He is a wonderful person and answered all of our questions. We interviewed another Doctor before deciding on Dr. Gottlieb. The other doctor wanted to take out our son's adnoids in addition to putting tubes in his ears. Dr. Gottlieb disagreed with the other Doctor, stating that you couldn't do a good job of taking out an 8 month old's adnoids because there really aren't any instruments tiny enough to do a great job. He recommended us getting tubes in our son's ears and see if that fixed his ear infection problem. He believed at that point, it was a little unnecessary to do both right away. We are so happy we decided to go with Dr. Gottlieb because once our son got his tubes, his ear infections cleared up. That was 10 months ago. In short, go with Dr. Gottlieb. I know you and your daughter will feel at ease with him. He didn't want to do a lot of unnecessary work on our son.

Good luck!

Sincerely,
Jacqueline

I would recommend ENT for Children, Dr. Paul Bauer. Him and his staff are great with kids and I would recommend someone that just does children for your 7 year old. My 2 year old son recently got tubes in his ears and Dr. Bauer was great. Check out their website at www.entforchildren.net.

Hi there...two of my children have had tubes. We currently use Wayne Kirkham at Medical City in Dallas. He is very, very good.

Also, we think highly of Henry Carder. He does all of his pediatric cases at Children's Hospital. In my opinion....I think it is wise to go to a doc who operates at hospital where they are ready to treat children. Even though complications are extremely, extremely rare...they DO happen. My daughter had one and you want a hospital that specializes in children.

I see other people have recommended Southwest ENT (Rohn, Evans, and Gamble)....we left that office. They did my son's first set of tubes. I think they are technically fine, but it is their office management that drove us away. Extremely rude office staff. Also, they did my daughters surgery (tonsils and adenoids)...there was a rare complication and I felt they sort of blew it off and just churn people through. She ended up hospitalized for a few days.

Good luck!!

I just used Dr. Biavatti for my son's surgery....he had to have tubes in his ears. We really liked Dr. Biavatti...he is very down to earth and great with the kids. And he performed his surgery at the Pediatric Surgery Center in Plano which I loved...this was my son's second surgery there and I specifically tried to find an ENT doctor who performed surgeries there. It is just all kid friendly and doesn't feel like a sterile hospital! One more thing, Dr. Biavatti specialiazes in Pediatric ENT. I hope this helps!

I would not recommend Rohn for your little one. We asked him to evaluate and perform a very simple procedure on our son while he was in the NICU and he would not do it. In fact, he made me (a former physiologist and current college professor) feel like I didn't know what I was talking about. Other physicians agreed with me, but Rohn refused. We had the problem corrected nearly 2 years later. I would go a different route than using him.

Dr Rohn charged us $500 for an 8 minute office visit in which the only "high-tech" equipment used was a tongue depressor. But to each his own. I love Dr Orval Brown at Southwestern Medical Center located in Children's Medical Center.

Be sure and throw away your child's toothbrush after any infection requiring antibiotics. Otherwise she can reinfect herself.
