Hi Ladies,

So my son is 11 weeks old, and I've been home with him the whole time, doing pretty much nothing. I'm feeling really lonely, and really want to get out of the house. My husband has been encouraging me to get out and go meet other moms with little ones, but the only group I know about cost $80 for 5 weeks, and honestly with me not working we dont really have the money to spend like that. Does anyone have a group they go to or run that would like another person? I would just love to meet more moms and get out of the house with my child every once in a while. I'm the first of my friends to have a baby, so as much as they try, they just dont understand some things. Having some people who understand what I'm going through to talk to would be wonderful. Thanks in advance!

Wow, thank you so much. I feel so much support here. My husband is encouraging me to get out and about, so when we get back in town I'll be looking into these groups and actually getting out of the house!! Thank you for all your support and suggestions!!

I find it's actually really easy to meet other moms in this area. Just go to the park or Barnes and Nobles or the local library toddler story time, you'll meet other moms with toddlers and newborns really easily. No need to pay to join any groups!

I live in Dublin and have a 7 week old and a 2.5 year old daughter. I'm on maternity leave so am open to playdates and get togethers, but Dublin might be kind of far for you. I'm sure you'll find many other moms in Walnut Creek.

Good luck. It's good for you to get out of the house and socialize, hopefully every day!

Hi!

First, congratulations on the new baby! I'm not sure what groups you've looked at but you should come and try a Gymboree Level 1 class. Your first class is free and then you can decide if you want to join (We are $69/month plus a one time membership fee of $10). We also have a Mamasource discount. The best thing about our classes is you get to talk with other Moms of newborns and learn some activities that you can do at home with the baby. Also, in our site, you get Mommy and Baby Fitness at no extra charge.

Our Level 1 class meets today (Wednesday) at 2pm in Lafayette. The Mommy and Baby Fitness class meets Friday at 11:45 but not this Friday because of July 4th.

You should also look into the John Muire New Parents Group at the Women's Health Center across from the Lesher Center. Not sure of their cost but they meet on either Tuesdays or Thursdays (sorry, I can't remember which day).

We hope to see you at Gymboree. Let me know if you have any questions (____@____.com).

Hi M.!
Congratulations on your new baby! All of the groups already suggested are good. I felt the same way about the high cost of joining a group. I would also suggest attending a library storytime. We go to the Lafayette library. They have a MotherGoose storytime (10:00 on Mon. & Thur.) for babies that is a lot of fun, and free! I hope that helps.
Also, my little guy is only a few weeks older than yours, and I'm a teacher too, so if you'd like to e-mail me, we can exchange phone numbers. :) Good luck!

Hey M...
I belong to a group I found on Meetup.com. They are called the NO DRAMA MAMAS and we have moms of all ages with kids birth to about 13 years old. We plan trips to local parks, playgroups, have little holiday parties and go to some bigger events like marine world or the Jelly Belly factory. Even if your little one is too young to really take it all in, the moms are a kick and full of advice and friendship.
Email me directly if you like and we can exchange numbers.
Talk to you soon!!

Pleasant Hill/Walnut Creek Mom's club is what I did when I had a young baby. The playgroups based on age and interests were perfect. I made some good friends there too, and kids are 5 and 6 now. The website is http://www.mom4mom.org Their dues used to be quite low, $30 a year. I just checked the website and it's still $30.

Hi M., first congratulations on being a Stay-At-Home-Mom. I have been a SAHM now a Work-At-Home-Mom since March 21, 2001. I have 3 kids at home (Girl 12, Boy 7 on 7/3, Girl 6 on 7/11). In these years, have have gotten into different Direct Sale Companies, which was great, as it game me some Adult conversation. But after making everyone else money, I decided to venture out on my own and start my own business.

As far as finding local classes, check with your local Library; alot of times they have story time events. Check with your local Communnity Center(s); for classes and get togethers. Also watch your local Parks for other mothers. although their kids might not be as young as yours, it is a start. Also, you can always start up your own get together group. Make up some fliers and pass them out to other mothers you encounter on your daily outings.

Good Luck

www.moms.meetup.com/1296/about This one is $5 a year.

Email me through mamasource & I can give you more information if you are interested!

Also, there is another moms group in the area that is just as good (but I'm not a member)

www.moms. meetup.com/370 This one is free.

Good luck finding the right fit for yourself! :)

I found this link for you to check out. http://www.supportgroupformothers.com/communityresources1...

When my son was born I found a flyer in the pediatrician's office for Christa Kell. We took her class and it was well worth the money. I don't remember the cost, but we made some great friends and playdates.

The second item on the list, Acalanes Adult Ed., is also a fabulous program. My two best friends came from that group of moms. (My 9 year old is still friends with their sons and the three of them are all within one month of age - my six year old is also still friends with one of the girls we met at Acalanes).

Pleasant Hill/Walnut Creek mothers club is always open to new members, and though I know people who belong, I never have myself. Check out the listings on that link and I'm sure you will find things you can afford to do.

If you've ever thought about working from home around your family's schedule, I can help you with that. Go to my website at www.healthyfamilybiz.com and request more info - I would be happy to call you. There is also a phone number on the site, you can call me too. :)
