Hi Moms,

Can anyone recommend classes/programs/activities that I can do with my 2 year old (26 months)daughter and bring along my 5 month old son as well? I want to keep my daughter involved in group activities and mommy and me classes, but I have to bring along my son too and I'm not having any luck in finding something for us.

Any recommendations or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Music Together of the Tri Valley will let you have both. If I remember correctly, younger siblings are free until the age of 9 months. I took the class with Victoria at Dougherty station - she was great.

Check with your local library... our has an interactive story/music time for 12 months and up, but younger siblings are allowed to lap-sit. Fun for the whole family! :)

Hello E.: Since I am the mother of 5 and now a Nana to several cuties, I will share some of what I have done as well as my sweet daughter-in-laws.
I found that I made friends with others through church with children my age. We would get together several days duringthe week at the park or at one anothers homes. We actually had it set up as a "play date day" and 2 of us moms would watch the children and have fun things to do or just let them play and be children, while the other 2 moms would go do what ever for 2 hours.
I actually had all the children in the backyard playing in shaving cream once and it was a blast. My friend actually used pudding on a tarp and the kids were a mess and loved every minuet. We have been friends now for 35 years and are doing these things with each others grandchildren.
My sweet daughters with their children have joined a local public swimming pool. They have had fun in the water with the kids and have met other moms. It is much harder to do with 2 children but they have done it. Many areas have what is called MOMS CLUB, for parents with young children & grandparents raising grandchildren. These are advertized inthe local paper. You might check with a local elementry school and see if the kindergarten teacher knows of any mothers looking for the same thing for younger siblings.
I hope that you will find something that suits your needs. I know that 2 year olds are so excited about everything and their worlds are so fun to explore. Enjoy your adventure of parenthood. I know it will be exciteing --my kids sure made sure it was never dull for me. Nana G

I love music together. There are locations in Danville and San Ramon. Siblings under 8 months are free, and both children will love the class. Classes start next week, so I would check out musictogether.net if you are interested. You can also take one free preview class. There is also a MOMS Club in San Ramon that offers various activities ranging from playgroups, field trips, and moms nights out on almost a daily basis. Both children are welcome at every activity. You should be able to google the club and find out who to contact about membership. I participate in both activities with my children who are 20 months apart and have had a great experience.

Hi E.!

You can definitely bring both children to Gymboree Play and Music. With the baby being 5 months old, all we would ask is that you have the baby in a front pak or stroller so that your hands are free to spot your older child. Then, when the baby is a little bit older, they could both participate in a Family Gymboree class, designed for siblings.

At our sites, your 2nd child would get a discount on the 2nd class fee (approx. 20%)when the child is ready to be on the playfloor. We are located in Lafayette, Oakland and El Cerrito but there are Gymboree Play and Music classes all throughout the Bay Area.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at ____@____.com F.

Music Together is a great program for siblings and the baby will get the benefit of "educational" music from an early age. They are all over the East Bay... Berkeley, Walnut Creek, Concord, Lafayette. Eastbaymusictogether.com Have fun!

I ran into this same problem. I also live in San Ramon and the only not so expensive thing I found are these classes through the Acalanes Adult Education program.

I have taken them for almost a year. They have a Parent & Siblings Birth to 5 years class. I started doing the class last winter session. There are 4 sessions a year. It is a very fun class that is perfect for us. My daughters are 3 years and 20 months. The fall session starts this Monday. I am not sure if the class is full, but you should call. If it is, sign up for the Winter one. There are a bunch of nice moms there. Good luck.

Also, we belong to Club Sport in San Ramon. The monthly membership is a little pricey but they have classes for 3 year olds that is included in the membership price: gymnastics, movement & music, dance, and more. They also have drop in classes each day for the 3 year olds and then a drop in one for 18 month olds and up to 5 years. The drop in class for 18 months+ is parent participation. The 3 year old classes the parent does not participate but you and your son could watch through the glass walls or he could go to the daycare which is really nice as well.

Good luck!
M.
