We just introduced the new, mobile-friendly design for Mamapedia. We know many of you were already visiting the site from your mobile phones. Hopefully the new design will make your experience here much more enjoyable.

Look for more improvements to be coming soon and let us know what you think of the new design.

change always throws me, so it'll take some time to get used to it. i only use MP from my desktop, so no clue whether it's easier from a mobile. i really do appreciate that MP is listening to the complaints and working to update and improve the site.
i give a thumbs up. a cautious one.

I'm using it from a desktop. IN the old format, once I read a question, it was highlighted a different color so I could easily see the last one I read. This format doesn't do that. That's my biggest complaint.

I only use this site from my laptop. So, no I do not like the new format better. Maybe you should take a poll first to see what percentage of people use the site from their mobile phone. I have to say I really dislike the new format...so unpleasing to the eye! (No offense...I know you are trying to make it better and please people who have complained). Just my opinion. Thanks.

So far I can only access MMP on my phone. My laptop still says the security certificate has expired. However, I haven't tried to sign in from my laptop since early this am.

Like anything new, it takes a little getting used to but o think I'll like it.

I'd like the option to clear out my 25000+ flowers that have accrued over the past 10 years or so.

It would be nice if you could automatically delete the trolls and spammers.

I know... Baby steps! Thank you for making improvements.

Sorry - nope. It sucks. Doesn't help me on my mobile - I tried.

Not more enjoyable. Don't like it.

Would love it better if the moderator(s) were here more. Luckily no trolls lately!!

Reason? It looks like my response is NOT being posted. I'm USUALLY okay with change. this one? Nope.

No, I don't like the changes. I use a desktop and it is much more awkward to use now.

ETA: The thing I think I dislike the most, is that when I click on the question to read current answers, my answer (and the option to edit it) is on top.

I've already said my piece, and I don't necessarily want to risk messing things up with an errant click. It also doesn't really indicate very well whether or not your answer was submitted, so there is a risk of it being submitted multiple times.

Here's what I would change....
the first person to answer a question now has advertisements pop into their answer.
I am not sure if Suz T has insomnia or wants to support that cause, but I know for sure I would be a little peeved if I was first answer and Planned Parenthood came up in my answer (which I saw in someone else's the other day). I HATE that.

On my iPad I'm not liking it. Like someone else mentioned, the font is so small and I can't pinch and drag the screen to make it bigger. For someone who has some vision issues, even with my glasses, being able to make the font bigger is vital. I tend to avoid websites or apps that don't allow me to adjust the font size. Even in typing responses, I like to be able to zoom in to make it easier to edit little mistakes. When it is this small, my fat fingers can't hit it the exact spot I want to and I end up having to delete a lot just to get to the spot I want to edit. Mobile friendly in my opinion is often not mobile friendly. I've stopped accessing many things after they became mobile friendly. Because I only access this site on an iPad and sometimes on my iPhone, I may not visit it as often if it isn't user friendly for me.

I'm more concerned with the comment boxes deleting what you've written if you open a different tab. I don't care what the site looks like. I'm glad you removed the floating ads that made Mobil use impossible, as well as ads between comments.

But now when you click too see a flower, it shows you the text box. It will be super easily to mess up what you wrote before. What's up with that? Why have the text box open. Open it when we hit respond, or edit. I hope I'm seeing this wrong.

NO because yesterday I couldn't get on at all and today it's taking forever. Some of us do not live on our phones. It's making the site useless and slow. NOT an improvement. I also think the layout is very blah and uninspired. I don't have vision problems, but the text seems very small, especially compared to the huge title and fairly large "respond to question" button. Is that even an 8pt font? The font in the comment window is better. And the light blue makes it harder to read IMO.

What we NEED is more moderation and less fiddling with the design, but you get what you pay for.

ETA: The Edit My Answer link in my post is broken or nonfunctional. Why is it there? Like someone else said, I do NOT like my post being "live" at the top because it is too easy to make unwanted changes. It does not look good or work as well on my PC.

Just tried from my phone...love it!

ETA: I agree with Birdsfreakmeout, I hate that lately an advertisement is included in the post of whoever answers first.

The type onscreen is too light, small, and hard to see. A couple of other people mentioned the light and/or small type below, so please consider our opinions on that. Good to know it's not just me.

It is annoying that the box with our typed answers in it stays open, showing our own reply, after we post the answer. Gives the impression that maybe it didn't really post. I know that's not the case but it's a distracting thing to see. Please consider eliminating that and substituting something like a notice saying "Reply posted" or whatever, plus the usual "change my response" button to reopen an answer. Thanks.

FIGURE OUT A WAY TO DELETE FLOWERS. I have years' worth of those. I certainly appreciate them, and am grateful for other members' consideration and kindness. But to have my account filled with these virtual flowers (that remain there for eternity) is frustrating.

And the first response's huge ad is annoying. It doesn't matter who responds first; their post is accompanied by a gigantic ad.

It's awful. You should have one look for computers/laptops & one for mobile devices (Craigslist does this.)
You can't see the list of question clearly like you could on the old design.
This is hard to navigate. Isn't easy to see the questions. The box that holds shows the number of answers
is over the actual question so you can't even see the title of the question.
I like change, I like new things, I drive to work a different way every other day just to change it up and
not "do things the same way" but these changes are ineffective when using a regular computer or laptop.
Wish you could have done it in a better way. I might have to stop using this forum. :(

I only use mamapedia on my laptop and never on my phone. The new font seems a little smaller, which I don't like. Otherwise, it's fine.

If you want to make a change that I think users would really appreciate, please develop an easy way to delete all of our flowers. Or, change to a Facebook style of just "liking" the post right there but not notifying the poster about it.

I only use it on my laptop because I type faster on it. I went to "clear" my flowers and after I clicked on one, it took me to the question but not to my comment like it used to. I liked when it did that because I could see all the flowers I got and now you have to scroll down and find your comment amongst all the others. Otherwise it seems to be ok.

LOL, it's so funny how the long time users hate it (insert image of little old lady shaking fist) but that's what happens right? We get used to things, then they change, and we have to get used to something else. That's life.
I think it's fine. It seems to be running and loading faster which is nice. It's less charming, in terms of the graphics and text, it's kind of generic looking but I'm sure after a few days I will barely remember what the old platform looks like anyway. Out of sight, out of mind.
As far as using the app? I don't do it, I have a smart phone and use many apps on it but reading and typing is something these old eyes and fingers prefer to do on a full size screen and keyboard ;-)
ETA: I think the biggest improvement is the profile pic popping up next to the user name, I do like that.

I can't read the questions and answers because the font text is too light to read. I don't know a way to turn them to darker, and I have to have my laptop on the brightest setting to be able to see because I have light problems. I actually liked the little list on the side of other questions, and now it is so fuzzy, even though it is darker, that I can't really read it without focusing, and I usually read this late at night after my eyes are all worn out already.

I am not super impressed with the site. I feel like it is an app for old people who need everything HUGE and should have "click here" arrows to navigate. I however, do not use a smartphone for it. Most places have 2 different apps, one for the computer, and one for the phone. Perhaps that might be a better option. Also, when I shrink the page down to keep it all on the screen, (control + or -) the question font is significantly smaller than the answer I am typing. What's up with that?

I would have preferred a poll or something to see what kind of changes we would have LIKED before you did this. For example, the ads on the edges that have movies/videos playing make it so that my computer takes so long to load that I can go make a cup of coffee and come back. Kind of sucks! Oh, yep see, the ad changed, and what I am writing is freezing and making what I am doing stop because the computer can't process both. I have a brand new HP!

I access the site through my laptop.
This new layout is going to take some getting use to.
I can't say I like it - or hate it - yet.
Give me a few days before I can say either way.
I know it's hard to optimize for screen size when the sizes vary so much between devices (phone, ipad, laptop and desktop).
What works well for one is a total waste of real estate (pixels) on another.

Oh, the default blank profile pic is vaguely female now instead of being just a person shape.
We do have a few Dads here - could you have a default choice for female or male - or make it something gender neutral?

Additional:
Zooming in to %120 helped make it easier for me to see.
Laptops have that option - I don't know how you would do that on a phone or ipad.
I'm in my 50s and I just need bigger/bolder text so I can read for any length of time without getting a headache.

Thanks for posting, I was surprised to see the new format!

One thing I think needs to be addressed, is if I go back to a post that I commented on, it has my comment in the edit box. I don't want to worry about changing what I wrote every time I pop into a question to check for updates!

Other than that, looks good so far. T.

I will have to check it out on my phone. I never use this site on it, so can't comment on that.

Yesterday I couldn't access the site at times at all. Maybe it was being worked on.

I have problems where Mamapedia shuts down my internet. I never have this happen on any other site, so far so good - has not done that today. I hated all the ads on the side. These ads (not sure what's changed) don't seem as bothersome.

The only thing so far I don't care for is when the page refreshes after I've responded to a question, it's like I am in edit mode (my response is in the box still). I preferred it the other way where there was a "Edit your response" type button I think before it was selected.

Will check what it's like on my phone later. I can't imagine being able to read it on my phone though - my eyesight is terrible :)

I hope that you report the spammer here. Do you get to delete and block too? LOL! (Sorry - laughing at the idea that the MP tech got a spammer on his thread!)

Well, I gotta agree with Mel about it being really confusing and irritating that the answer we give to a question looks like it didn't post on our computer screens. What's up with that? I'll reserve judgment on the cell phone because I haven't tried that yet.

I will say that I had a lot of trouble finding this particular screen because I got shunted off to one that was hard to get off of. I need to practice navigating. I do hope that all the ugly ads that I usually have here stay away - right now I don't see any. Yea for that!

I don't like the pictures as if this is facebook. Bad idea. Most people don't put pics here because of privacy concerns. So look down this whole thread, D.. Most of what you see is generic shadow pictures. Can your people PLEASE take these off? Pretty Please????
