I'm only 5 months along in my preganacy, but I was told that I should start looking into birthing classes. I thought I would be able to find something at the Beaumont hospital, but they only have one class on Wednesday nights, which won't work out for me. I'm wondering if there are any classes that are offered on the weekend???? If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks.

It sounds like you have gotten some good advice on a class but I also wanted to let you know that there are woman who offer private classes in your home. I don't know the cost of them but there is a website to go to that will list many woman who do various things, labor doulas, postpartum doulas, child birth educators, massage therapists, chiropractors just to name a few. Here is the website:
www.birthnetwork.org
They also have monthly meetings with topics on the child bearing year.
Hope it is something you may be interested in.

I don't know of any birthing classes.

However, our pediatrician is in Royal Oak. I would recommend looking into using her if you don't already have one. I drive from Rochester Hills to see her.

The doctors name is Popovic and the number is ###-###-####, Childrens Care Medical Center

Yes, I can definitely recommend a class! When I was pregnant with my son (born in Jan 2005), my OB group recommended a childbirth class that one of the labor/delivery nurses at Beaumont does at her house. So that's what we did and she was awesome. We took the class two years ago so I'm not sure if she's still doing it, but it'd be worth checking out. Her name is Darlene and her phone number is ###-###-####. At the time, it cost $70. It was one day a week from 7-9pm for three weeks in a row. She does it out of her home in Troy and when we took the class, there were about 10 other couples in the class with us. She even provided drinks and snacks. She was just great, and she also tells it like it is since she works in labor/delivery at Beaumont herself.

Good luck!

Sounds like the more personal home option would be a wonderful choice--if you're still looking for a hospital-based class--DMC's Hutzel Hospital has classes on Saturdays.

Ditto on Darlene. We took her class this past Feb and for first time parents it is great. It was at her home in Troy and made us both feel very comfortable and open to ask ANY questions. My husband was terrified of the whole birth experience and she made him feel comfortable. :o)

She did offer a once a month Saturday class. I would call her now.....she fills up quick.

Double check with Beaumont. I had the option of the Wed night class or a Saturday option. The Saturday option was all day one or two times. We really enjoyed the class and learned a lot. If you are delivering at Beaumont you will have a wonderful experience.

Ditto on Darlene. She was great! She offers a one time Saturday class, which is what we did. It was from 10-4 or something like that, but we were done by 3. Just to let you know Royal Oak Pediatrics is wonderful. They are on Woodward just south of 11 Mile. If you have any questions on things in the area feel free to contact me. Good luck to you!
