OREO Cookies: A Consumer Report
This is not merely my gluttonous opinion… Oreos are, in fact, the best-selling cookies in the world.¹
About two weeks ago I was visiting a couple of friends. We chatted about this and that, and somehow OREO cookies came up: specifically, Double Stuf OREOs.
With great abandon and little regard to my friends’ Oreo cookiepreferences, I mentioned I’d never had Double Stuf OREO cookies. Let me tell you, I might as well have admitted to kicking baby kittens (I’d NEVER do that).Their facial expressions were unplanned, but eerily synchronized: shockand horror with a splash of repulsion.
My friends went on to tell me I’ve been missing out. Well, that did it. This lady is not one to miss out on anything described as “amazingly delicious.” (I can’t remember if those were the exact words they used, but I do remember feeling left out. Not happening on my watch.)
Rest assured I have thoroughly remedied my “little cookie problem.” To further humiliate myself, I will ask: Do YOU know about OREO minis, OREO Thins, and stop the presses, Triple Double Stuf OREOs?
In the past I’ve neglected the grocery store cookie aisle. I had NO idea there are so many types of OREO cookies. I showed great restraint by purchasing only five of the many OREO varieties available. For the sake of my jeans, the OREO madness needs to end. Therefore, here are the results of my OREO taste test.
1. OREO mini
Mini OREOs are bite-sized versions of regular Oreo cookies. Unlike most of the varieties, OREO mini is packaged in an aluminum foil bag in a box. This suggestion should suffice: OREO mini is best served in a big dish of cold milk as a breakfast cereal, mid-day snack, light lunch, supper (if your spouse is not home), or midnight snack. Delicious.
2. OREO Thins
Oreo Thins were released in 2015 and are thin versions of the original cookies. They come in chocolate, golden and mint flavors. They have only 35 calories per cookie compared to a little over 53 calories in the original, 70 calories in the Double Stuf, and you don’t even want to know how many in the Triple Double Stuf. (100 per cookie. Shut your mouth.)
3. Regular OREO Cookies
OREO cookies are a delicious classic. They are best with an enormous glass of ice cold milk. Dunk the cookie into the milk, hold until the maximum amount of sogginess has been attained, then quickly shove into your mouth. Repeat until at least one sleeve is no longer with us. If you misjudge the soak time and the cookie falls into the milk, no worries: grab a spoon. Bonus when the milk is gone.
4. Double Stuf OREO
Double Stuf OREO cookies are how this whole blog post started. They have about twice the normal amount of white creme filling. That means 1.86 times more stuf than a regular Oreo.² Good enough for me.
While looking for picture worthy cookies, I noticed some slightly flawed cookies. My thought: I’d better taste them to make sure they’re okay. No worries! They taste just as delicious as the picture perfect ones. Phew, crisis averted!
The Double Stuf OREO cookies were particularly unphotogenic. The extra filling has a noticeable effect on the image on the cookie. It’s like what happens with a tattoo. When a tattooed area becomes swollen or distended, the tattoo is likely to stretch and distort.³ Not pretty. Still delicious. The cookie not the tattoos.
5. Triple Double OREO
Triple Double Oreo combine three wafers with twolayers of creme, one vanilla and one chocolate. One hundred calories per delicious cookie. Enough said.
Holiday OREO Cookies
My youngest daughter was very upset because I wouldn’t buy the birthday OREOs. They also make holiday OREOs, but I must draw the line somewhere: Pumpkin Spice is my line (Maybe. I cannot guarantee this statement).
OREO Cookies Recipes
Thanks to the Google search “OREO cookie recipes” I’ve discovered a whole new world of baking with these tasty cookies. OREO’s website recipes is an excellent place to start. I have great faith that my readers have fantastic, need-to-know OREO recipes. PLEASE leave your OREO recipes in the comments. It’s your civic duty.
Twist them, dunk them, creme first or bite whole! No matter how you eat them, everyone’s crazy for the classic chocolate sandwich cookie and its many OREO products.
What is your all-time favorite OREO cookie variety?
- All opinions are myown. Nabisco has not paid me to endorse their delicious cookies. Although, I should write them to ask for some jean money (mine are getting a tad snug).
