Kid with Not-so-severe Allergy Being Separated at School Lunch

A little background: when my son was a year old he got hives around his mouth after eating a bunch of French toast. I gave him Benadryl and washed him off...he was fine in 20 minutes. I took him to an allergist and my son tested positive for eggs, peanuts, and tree nuts. At 2 yrs old, the allergist ordered a blood test, which came back negative for everything. I was thrilled...thought he could start eating those items. Nope. Allergist said blood test really just says he is likely to grow out of the allergies or that they aren't that severe....

Early Kindergarten or Not? Also, Food Allergy and Schools.

Well, I'm sort of torn on what to do over here. For a few years, I have done in home childcare/preschool for both my son and other people's children. For my son being just a couple months over four years old, the doctor says he's a little more advanced then most his age. Not saying that my son is a genius, but due to all my work with him, he knows his alphabet by sight and sound, his numbers through 20, he's beginning to spell, he knows how to spell both his first and last names, he's just barely beginning to read (he read his first word...

Epi Pen ????

My daughter is allergic to peanuts and we just went and picked up her epi pen and I noticed that it exp in may 2007. That just doesn't seem to be a very long shelf life for something that you hopefully will not need to use often. Of course if this is the norm that is fine but I feel like maybe the pharmacy just gave me an old one that they had on the shelf and if that is the case I am going back up there. So if someone could check theirs and let me know I would sooo appreciate it!

Peanut Allergy and School

Is anyone familiar with Illinois food allergy legislation law? Or have experience dealing with public school on managing food allergy in school? My daughter is ready for kindergarten and this one and only school in our small town does not have anything in place for peanut allergy (other than there is a nurse who knows how to use an epi pen). The principle wants me to go to our dr. and get everything in writing for him. The school is serving PB and J daily and classrooms are filled with peanut products when we visited. School seems...

Adverse Reaction to Epi-pen Jr.

Hi moms, Last weekend, I fed my son whole wheat pasta, green peas, with homemade carbonara sauce (milk, egg, basil, parmesan cheese). All of these ingredients, he has had some way before, but never with carbonara sauce. Almost immediately, he began rubbing his eyes, getting the sauce all over his face and into his eyes, and he began swelling pretty intensely, but he was breathing fine. We went to urgent care, where they gave him benadryl orally, which he promptly vomited. Then, they gave him an epi-pen jr. shot. My son cried for a...
