I provide in-home, hands on consultations rather than new parents having to drag everyone and everything into an office or clinic. Basic education that is tailored to you and your baby's needs: Such as how often should I feed? For how long? How do I know my baby is getting enough? How to manage your sleepy or fussy baby? How do I pump? How long can I store breast milk? When should I introduce the bottle?
By far the majority of problems I see are associated with the latch. The way the baby attaches to the breast defines how much milk he gets and how comfortable or painful it is for you to nurse. The latch varies with each mother/baby pair and a tiny issue can result in big problems. I can begin to address these problems immediately and often there is no need for me to come back to your home.
BJ is phenomenal! I would HIGHLY recommend her if you have any questions or issues with breastfeeding. She is the reason I was able to nurse my daughter for almost a year, when I was ready to give up after a few weeks since things weren't going well. Not only is BJ extremely knowledgable, but she also has the compassion and understanding that really put you at ease and give you the reassurance that you and your baby can nurse well together. The other big positive is that she came right to my home to help us...so she was able to see the exact environment where I was nursing, and made sure I knew how to make me and my baby comfortable. My biggest disappointment was when I found out she moved away from my area so she couldn't help me in person when I delivered my son. :-( I truly cannot say enough good things about her!! I have had to work with other lactation consultants with my son, and there is no comparison...BJ is the BEST!!!
Bobby Jo is wonderful. I called to make an appointment and she was available the very next morning. She is very warm and reassuring; she listens to your concerns and gives clear answers and advice. She is a proponent of breastfeeding but is not militant about it. She encourages what is comfortable for mom and baby and doesn't impose strict standards (no bottles/pacifiers etc.). She followed up 1 week after our appointment and was available by phone and email when I had questions later on concerning thrush. She has been very helpful and I would recommend her to any friend.
