Melissa has a wonderful personality and a real knack at putting you at ease. She did a awesome job creating a belly cast to help us remember such a special time in our lives.
Melissa came to my home when my baby (Ella) was just about 1.5 weeks old to do some newborn shots. She shot both of my older kids, our newborn in her belly cast, as well as my husband and myself with Ella. The photos are beautiful and priceless. Melissa left me with a disk of pictures that I could then print out in what ever size and quantity I wanted. I really loved working with her, and would encourage anyone to use her services.
She did a phenomenal job. Since this was my third baby, I specifically requested that she just meet us at the hospital. But what was great is we talked on the phone as my labor increased and she made some great recommendations. She recommended I take a nap and get something good to eat. Also, she recommended that the people who were watching my kids come and get them before labor got hard which for us turned out to be a really good decision.
Once we actually got to the hospital, she had my birth plan ready for the nurses and she was giving me lots of tips on different positions to be in to help me during labor. For me – I pretty much hit transition right after I got to the hospital, and she was great at just helping me get through that. She had a heat pad that she brought that my husband held on my back, she brought music for me to listen to and she helped to wipe me off with a cool cloth after each contraction.
We also have some wonderful pictures of the birth. She took pictures of me while I was laboring and of the baby as it was born (which were things I specifically requested).
She really gave my husband and me the perfect birth for us. When I think about my daughter, I can’t imagine a more perfect way to welcome her into the world. And Melissa really helped me to achieve that goal.
Melissa was an excellent support for both my husband and I. She helped ease my mind and was very helpful in assisting us with the birth experience we desired. She also got some very memorable photos during the birth. As I look in my baby book, I am reminded of every step in the whole birthing process through her excellent photos.
Melissa was like having a supportive friend who knew all the ins and outs of labor and childbirth. I felt very comfortable with her. She was a great source of information before, during, and after the birth. I loved the special touches she brings with the belly casting, photography, and videography. She is there to help you have the birth you want.
Melissa was our birth doula when our daughter came into the world. I wanted a doula from the beginning and my husband was hesitant about the idea. He was very happy with idea of Melissa as our doula when he met her during our interview. We made an excellent choice when we hired her.
I had a very long labor (thank goodness my doctor was patient) and Melissa was an excellent supporter from the time I had the earliest contractions to four days later when the baby finally came, and in our immediate and alter postpartum period. I was so relieved to have her with us because of her comforting and knowledgeable presence. Looking abck I know there were many times I would have had a terrible time with the fear that can accompany a first-time laboring mother. Melissa helped me to deal with that fear in a positive way and helped me to be able to work through those difficult times.
Melissa also helped by using aromatherapy and helping me find different positions that would aid in my comfort during labor. She was patient and helped me with my own patience during a long labor. She helped me to recognize how far I had come in labor and helped me to stay focused instead of despairing in frustration.
Besides being our doula, Melissa took the most beautiful photographs and digital video of our daughter's birth. My husband and I have viewed those photos and videos many times, and each time I see them I am reminded of the amazing experience of bringing new life--my daughter-into this world. I am also reminded of the importance of having a professional there to take the pictures! My husband was enlisted to help me and was unable to take as many pics as he would have liked. Besides that, having been to many births, Melissa has an incredible knack for finding the most important photographs and capturing those moments beautifully, something an amateur cannot claim.
I highly reccomend Melissa as a birth doula, and though I did not hire her specifically for poictures, I also highly reccomend her photography. I did not have a bellycast done, and regret that.
Melissa is a very talented, gifted woman who is passionate about birth, life, motherhood, and the amazing processes that surround it. I was very fortunate to have her as my doula and, God willing, if I have another child I would like for her to be my doula again.
Melissa really was amazing during our birth! She took much time making sure that she understood me and my husband and what we wanted with our birth. She understood how much we really wanted a natural birth, and when some unforseen events came up, (like a crazy long labor) she knew how to coax us so that we still had our natural birth. She was also so great working with our midwife and our nurses to make the whole experience great. Melissa was great with me and my husband. She helped us both so much!! Thanks, Melissa!!! We'll call you when we're ready for baby #3!!
Melissa made a beautiful belly cast for me during my 39th week of pregnancy. She also came back a few weeks later and shot some amazing photographs of my children and even some with my newborn son curled up in the belly cast! I highly recommend her services!!
Melissa was my doula for my daughter born Dec. 13, 2007. I had a 25 hour labor, and she was there for me the whole time. I don't think I could have done it without her!
