I agree that you should not feel obligated to pay for an accident. One perspective . . . think of all the schools where children are injured during the school day - - they definitely don't pick up the tab! :)
Hello mommies! I have a question for you here about a child I babysit. He fell yesterday into the corner of a wall in our playroom and busted open his eyebrow. I needed to call his mom and have her take him to the urgent care to get stitches. I've been watching this 2 year old since he was about 6 months old. After he fell and I saw the gash, I called his mom, gave him Tylenol for the pain and packed a diaper bag for the mom.
My question is, should I offer to pay for the co-pay at the urgent care? He was in my care, but the mom doesn't seem upset or worried that it happened (he's back today in my care). Thanks!
I appreciate everyone taking the time to respond. I have not offered to pay, but checked in regularly over the weekend. Great point about schools not paying for accidents that happen there. Thanks to all!!

No harm in offering at least, it'll help show her how sorry you are for the accident. Accidents happen, especially with toddlers who are prone to falling over.
Good luck.
How sweet of you to even worry about it. I would say no way would you need to pay the copay. Seriously, kids get hurt alll the time. Accidents happen, it isn't your fault. It could just have easily happened at his house, I wouldn't pay it another thought.
i wouldn't pay... it's her kid, her insurance plan, and i'm sure you didn't throw him into the corner, he fell on his own... so it could've easily happened at his house too...
i would apologize and bake some cookies and write a get well card or something, buy some special bandaids or a little gift... that sort of thing.
Hello J.! I do not think you should pay for anything. Children fall all the time even when they are being looked after good! Which is why the mom probably didnt freak out. If the child was at school and fell, the school would not pay for it. And I also think its very nice of you to even consider paying.
Hello J.,
If the mom isn't concerned about it I would worry about the co-pay. I'm sure you feel some sense of guilt since it happened in your care but accidents do happen. Believe me, when my son fell at day care and I had to pick him up to get stitches they didn't offer to pay the $150 co-pay. This is your business and she has to understand that.
Split the copay? Offer to pay half?
