Let's assume money is not an object, family is okay going anywhere and you have 7 days. You can go to one country, which one is it?

What can I do next?

Last year I did a bucket list trip to Italy. I am still paying for it. Worth every penny. Venice was all that I had hoped it would be and more. Florence and Tuscany were fantastic. I was a bit worried about Rome as I am not a big city person and Rome was absolutely incredible. Food was fabulous everywhere and people were really lovely too.

I also really love Ireland....but you only said one ;-(

Switzerland, Zurich. The actual city is a mile square and you can walk everywhere. There are beautiful churches and castles and ruins nearby. The train and airport are near for travel. The marina was featured in one or two of the James Bond movies. People are friendly and it is child friendly.

There are other places I want to see but have not. The closest I got to Greece when we were stationed in Europe was Germany. The government put out a traveler's advisory about not going so we went to France instead. That was a great trip.

As for English only, most people in Europe speak at least three or four languages so that getting around is not a problem. If you try to speak their language, they will help you get what you need with a smile because you are trying to speak their language.

Nice question. I would love Italy for all the lace I could bring back for a wedding gown or two or three.

I was given that choice, went with Italy. Having done that next year is Belgium.

I have done most of Europe and I am most comfortable in Italy so that is what I chose for my honeymoon four years ago. We are going to Belgium for the food and beer. My husband loves sour beers and Lambics and no one does them better than Belgium. Brussels was just amazing. There is this narrow street that I swear is what I imagine heaven is like. Every type of food you can imagine, right there.

RR, Venice is even more amazing than you can imagine!! I keep trying to find words to capture it. All my life I wanted to go there and it was actually the reason I insisted we go to Italy because I just had to show my husband that beauty. Of course Tuscany! Florence! Ahh the art, the food...

Italy!
Lots of history. Beautiful countryside.
My experience was that of welcoming people.

In regards to the poster that got mugged in Italy, it can happen anywhere.
Even here stateside as I was mugged.
My suggestion is to keep your money, I.D. close to your person in a small
satchel you were over your shoulder inside your clothes.
Always keep your eyes open, head up, be looking around when you travel
anywhere.....Europe or here at home.

Well, Europe isn't just "anywhere" so which is it - ANYWHERE or Europe?

If it's ANYWHERE - Australia. Although 7 days would not be enough time and since money isn't an object ??? I will take more time! :)

If it's Europe ONLY? I'd like to go where I've not been - so that would have to be Southern Italy - Vatican City, Rome, etc.

Spain. I've been lucky to travel to many European countries and I love all Italian. Wanted to marry an Italian guy. Always begged to go to Italian restaurants. But I didn't love Italy. I don't know. I've been a few times and never love the food or anything. Madrid was so clean and beautiful and nice that my dream is to go to Barcelona. Food was great too.

This is tough.

Italy popped in my head first. I think because of the Mediterranean Sea along with all the amazing history and buildings.

I would also like to visit Sweden to meet long lost relatives. I know some people who have gone on a cruise to Sweden, Norway and I think Denmark. They LOVED it.

I would probably choose Italy. Second choice would be Spain. But there are soooo many others I would love to see or return to.

If you do Italy, make sure you take at least a day trip to see Pompeii (near Naples), only about an hour from Rome I think by train. It was amazing.

Have you and your family traveled overseas before? I used to travel internationally for work and have lived in Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark previously.

Because of the family part, I would probably chose either Italy or the UK. My reasoning would be because both are very child friendly. I love Spain - but eating dinner at 10:30pm is not easy for my little guys. So much of Spain's culture takes place in the late evening that I will wait until they can stay awake past 8.

Think about your family and their likes/dislikes. If it is hard for them to stay up late, northern countries such as UK, the Netherlands, Germany and Scandinavia will be easier on their schedule. If there is a particular part of history that they love than you may want to consider that as well. My oldest is 3rd grade, he knows about the U.S. / British colonial history so he would find that interesting.

Good luck! Feel free to ask any questions. C.

Hubby and I went to Rome last year. Got mugged!! Stay off the subway!!!!! Tuscany was FABULOUS but didn't have any money so couldn't buy anything because we got mugged. Did I mention that????
=( I would do Italy again but not Rome.

We are going to France, England and Scotland next May. Ok, so one country...depends on what you want to do. Hard question...I love to travel and I want to see everything!!! I LOVE London!

I don't know if the United Kingdom counts as ONE country (UK consists of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) but I'd love to tour as many castles (working and ruins) as I could in a week.
I'd probably need several months to see all I wanted to see!

Norway--my husband has cousins there and just getting to visit them would be enough of a reason, but it is also such a beautiful country.

I went to France, Spain and Portugal when I was in high school.

France (since I can only name one). I know that the French are famous (or infamous) for their attitude, but I found them no more difficult to deal with the the average New Yorker. And the country is steeped in history and culture, and the geography is widely varied. Love mountains? Check. Love beaches? Check? Love really fantastic food and booze? Check.

I do have one advantage that may make a difference in how positive my experiences in France have been. I speak the language, not perfectly, but well enough to manage. They do appreciate it when you try. France is the only country I've ever been to where a stranger corrected my grammar in public. :-)

I would definitely go to one that speaks English and I'd probably do one that has a lot of history that I would enjoy learning about.

I might like Scotland too but can I just pick the United Kingdom so I can go to all those that I would be familiar with?

I did a three week Europeon trip six years ago. We started in Barcelona and went to Italy, Monaco, Greece, Turkey and then France. It was an amazing trip.

Given the opportunity, I would go back to Greece - Mykonos in particular.
Venice is so unique, but I almost perfer the smaller fishing villages but Mykonos was my absolute favorite.
