Ok Mom's,
I've searched the web looking for info on what age to start yogurt. My son is 7 months old and is eating 2nd foods and 3rd foods as well as saltines, graham crackers, shredded cheese, and those Sweet Potato Veggie puffs.

I know they say no whole milk till 1 year but what is the rule of thumb for yogurt and other dairy items? Can they have the flavored yogurts (Vanilla, banana, peach, pear) or should I do plain yogurt and mix it with his fruit?

What can I do next?

Yes, yo baby is the greatest thing ever. My baby girl does not like meat products and her iron was low, and the Polyvisol vitamins in the dropper are disgusting!! The green packaged yo baby has 45% of the RDA of iron included, not to mention that it keeps her bm's regular and it tastes wonderful.

hey J.-
i had my second daughter 2 days before my first daughter's 1st b-day. are you surviving ok? it can be so tough!!!! well about the yogurt thing. i go to sprouts because if you buy 14 or more then they are 50 cents/piece of the cascade fresh yogurt. it is fruit juice sweetened so no sugar! my kids love it!! it also has about 8 live cultures in it which keep your intestinal tract healthy. they also have some big jugs of it that are 2.99 i believe.
just don't buy yogurt with mango in it. it can be a major alergy. i didn't know this and gave my daughter a cashew butter sandwich and mango strawberry yogurt at about one year's old and she broke out in a rash. the pedi said it could be the cashews or the mango we don't know yet. she hasn't had either since. so no cashews either!!
well i hope this helps!!!! and hope you are doing well!!!!God bless!

assuming your child has no other allergies, yogurt is great for babies. Stick to the yobaby yogurt since it's made with whole milk and is full of that good baby fat.

My 2 yr old still likes yogurt. It's a good food when they are teething too.

Hi there! We gave our kiddos yogurt at a young age and they still love it. We did not see any lactose issues but it's something to watch for. We also did cottage cheese mixed with applesauce or with yogurt - calcium is a great thing for kiddos :)

Budget wise, and this is just my opinion, but we didn't do babyfood finger foods. We literally made our own babyfood from what we ate and it saved us a lot of money! We cooked peas for example and smashed them up, same with green beans. We cooked a whole chicken and added water or breast milk to is, put it in the food processor until it was the right consistancy then put it in ice cube trays to freeze. Each cube was just about the same amount as those little jars :)

My kid's Dr. said around 8 mo. Just be careful & watchful of an allergy. I'm not sure what the difference is, but they make something called YoBaby, I assume for babies. :)

I agree with the YoBaby yogurt...both my girls loved it! They still both love yogurt at 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 yrs. And, yes he's old enough for yogurt! Enjoy!

Our ped told us no whole milk, but that yogurt was ok, and even some kinds of cheese. Our little guy is 7 months too, and we haven't tried cheese but he loves yogurt -- we just get some whole milk yogurt and swirl in a little jam. Take care!

My daughter has been eating it since she was 6 months. She loves all kinds but I read to give the whole milk kind.

Our pedi is very conservative, and his rule of thumb is 9 months for yogurt. 12 months for milk. Only use yogurts made with whole milk because they need the fat. YoBaby is wonderful and my baby loves it. It is somewhat expensive though, but I haven't found any others made with whole milk.

He is old enough to eat yogurt. I loved the yobaby yogurt with the cereal built in, but my son loves all kinds!!

My pedi said yougurt was fine and my baby absolutely loved it. He was around the age of your child at the time. He is 14 months now and he still loves it. I always gave him the yoplait thick and creamy in fruit flavors.

It is okay to give it to him. My son LOVED yogurt. I second the yobaby yogurt nomination. It's organic and made with whole milk. You can buy it plain, or with fruit and cereal mixed in.

If you have reason to be concerned about lactose issues, try goat's milk yogurt and also try kefir. You can find both at Sprouts. My kids LOVE both, and were both kefir junkies, coming from Russia (adopted in 2001). Kefir is considered the gold standard of what to feed babies in eastern Europe. It is a great probiotic. If you want to go with YoBaby, it is a great choice, because, as others have pointed out, it has the high fat content that babies NEED for brain development.
