Today we were outside playing and she was climbing into the chair and I saw a black mark on her inner thigh, I jumped up and quickly removed it just before it could embed itself into her. I took her inside and cleaned to area now she has a small I mean very small puncture and its raised a little. I know I got the whole tick off bc it landed on the ground and I could see its head and body intact. I did squash it, I read that I really have nothing to worry about bc it was on her for a very short time but still yuck. My dh told me to go up to homedepot to get that granular flea tick spreader stuff and I did the whole yard front and back. This is the first time in the 2.5 yrs we have lived here that we have ever had a tick problem. Damn mild winter. So in the spirt of the site are you having tick issues yet this spring?

Gotta share a hint I read just today. A school nurse said to remove a tick, put liquid soap on a cotton ball, rub it lightly on the tick, and the tick will back oout. If you leave the ball sitting on it for a minute or so, the tick will stick to the cotton ball, easy throw away. Now, I don't know if it works, but this nurse swears that she has used it hundreds of times and it has never NOT worked.

For the teeny puncture mark, I would put peroxide and neosporin on it.

I am sure everyone is because of the warm winter. We have them. Put
Frontline on dog and still they appear. Just do a body scan when you undress little one.

When my oldest daughter was 6, I was brushing her hair after bathtime and saw something move on her scalp. It was a tick...had been attached for hours and was full of blood! I totally freaked out. My husband was home to help the situation. She had a scab for a couple of weeks, but was fine.
Ditto yuck.

The ticks are horrible here! We went out mushroom hunting ( in April) and we were covered in them. I couldn't believe it! After one trip out.. about an hour I had 7 on me, my husband had 5, the boys had a few and I pulled 4 out of our 4yr old head. The 4 yr old was the only one that had them embedded into him. I have never seen that many ticks on us at one time that's usually the amount in a whole summer!

There has already been alot of people who's dogs have lymes and the number of people of with lymes already is unreal. Its going to be a LONG summer!

Yep. Felt something on the back of my leg at the kitchen sink 2 weeks ago and brushed at it (felt like one my hairs and it was annoying me--I have long hair, so I have hair all over me at any given time, lol). Anyway.. I brushed at it expecting to come away with a long strand of hair that had gotten caught on my clothing and was touching me periodically as I moved-- nope. I looked and found a tick on the floor trying to crawl away to hide under the rug. (tile floors)

The next day, my son found one crawling on the floor in his bedroom.

We live in a very woodsy area... and we have a dog. So they do sometimes hitch rides inside on her and fall off and eventually climb on someone if we don't find them first. It's just that time of year, it WAS a mild winter, and the area we live in. I just saw an article in the newspaper this week that there are something like 43 different types of ticks that live in our state. Fun! :-/

I usually put them in a ziploc baggie for a week or so, (if they were on one of us or attached to the dog) in case symptoms develop. So that the actual tick could be tested if need be. They do carry diseases. But they spread them by (sorry if it's TMI) regurgitating their stomach contents after they have embedded their head/mouth parts. So squeezing them with tweezers to pull them out can cause them to spread their diseases--whatever they might be carrying. And they might not be carrying anything. It depends on if they have fed on other animals that were carrying something already.
They can live years without a blood meal. Sooo.....

Frontline Plus is what we keep on our dog. Usually, I only find dead ticks. Where they got on her, started feeding (start ballooning up) and then the frontline got them and they drop off on the floor somewhere.

Ticks can fall on a person out of a tree too so just because you treated your grass does not mean they are gone.

Two of my friends have Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from ticks. They both attended a church function on the beach of a nearby lake. They sat under the shade trees at the edge of the sand. They both got ticks on them that were embedded. It is always a good idea to check yourself, private areas especially, and your kids each time you come in from outside. Hair, ears, nose, cracks and crevices, etc...they like to hide in the darkest and warmest areas.

Our health dept will collect the tick and test it for Lyme, etc...

Yes, the winter was very mild. Everybody in a "tick" part of the USA has to be EXTRA careful !!!!

We have an organic tick spray company spray our yard. I am afraid of harsh chemicals.
