Yellow Vomit?

My son is a year old and has only really been sick one other time. He woke up this morning with vomit all over his crib. I'm not sure if he was awake when he threw up, but he didn't cry or anything because we would have heard him. He's been puking all morning and it's bright yellow, like mustard. He didn't eat anything yellow so I called the nurse and she said it was probably bile. Should I be concerned? He seems just fine, other than the puking. He's happy and playing. Last time he was sick he seemed fine as well and ended up in the hospital, so I'm not sure if I'm being overly concerned because I don't want to go to the hospital again. (last time we went to the doctor the doc said he was probably ok b/c his eyes were bright, he was happy and playing but she did a blood test as a precaution and his levels were really bad) So, it's hard to tell if this kid is really sick or not because he's so happy all the time. Sometimes I wish he'd be upset so I'd know he didn't feel good. He doesn't have diarrhea or anything else either, but he didn't last time so I just don't know. Should I take him to the doc or wait it out a few days?

What can I do next?

If your son is vomitting only bile, it's because there's nothing else in his stomach. If he has continued to vomit since yesterday morning, I know that I personally would consider whether or not to take him in, especially if he is not keeping fluids down either. If he is able to keep fluids down, that is another matter, as he shouldn't get dehydrated. Above all, trust yourself as his mother to know that you know your child better than anyone else. If there is a question in your mind, it might be better to hit an EmergiCare or Midwest Minor Medical or something to assuage those worries.

Hope he's feeling better soon!

Your son is vomiting stomach acid. Its weird to see and kind of scary, but that is all it is. If he is vomiting for a really long time and you can not get him any fluids, then get him in as he will dehydrate, reguardless of how happy and playful he is. My now 2 yr old had croup so badly when she was about 18 months, that her lips were turning blue. We rushed into the ER and she ran all over the place even though she was barely breathing. They kept asking me what was wrong, and I kept saying she wasnt breathing right. Well when they finally did the oxygen level test it did show her levels were way down, and she spent the night in the hospital. All the nurses thought it was funny how much spunk she still had even though she was barely breathing. So as you can see, every child handles being sick differently. I once got into trouble with my son when he was 5 months old. He has an ear infection and by the time I took him in, it was very bad and they asked me why I waited so long. I said How was I suppose to know he was sick if he was playing, moving all over the place and eating like a pig. It did shut up the doctor after that!! lol Remember YOU know your child best, so dont be afraid to push issues with them and if they ignore you, find a new doctor. If I hadnt pushed, my now 2 yr old might not be with me today when I was pregnant with her. Good Luck!

I would deffinately take him in. What is the worst they could tell you. I believe if you are worried enough to think about taking him in then you should just do it. Some kids can play thru the yucky sick feeling & you can't tell. I would to be safe. Hope I helped.

TAKE HIM TO THE DOCTOR!! I am in LPN school and he is throwing up bile! Is there gatorade or any thing you can get down him? He needs to get something in his stomach so he does not throw up his bile. This is basicly what you throw up when you are dry heaving as an adult and that icky yellow stuff comes up and it burns. That is what he is trowing up. They can give hime medications to control the vomiting, in a suppository. Don't wait, I would take him in if he is still vomiting on Sunday the 23rd.
