so my daughter had what I thought was bad diaper rash. I put desitin on it 4 days in a row and it didn't seems to be getting any better. Today my friend came over with her daughter and when I showed her the diaper rash she said "oh no that's not diaper rash, that's a yeast diaper rash, my daughter had one of those a few months ago" she told me she called her doctor and they said to use an anti-yeast or antifungal cream on it, she did, and it cleared up within a few days. My fiancé stopped at CVS on his way home and he said everything he could find had warnings on the labels not to use on children under the age of 12. Thankfully the rash doesn't seem to be bothering her but its just so red, she does seem to squirm a little when you wipe her though. Does any one know anything that's safe to use on her, its too late to call her doctors office unfortunately. I looked it up online, its definitely what she has, looks just like the pictures they showed on babycenter.com
anyone ever have this issue and know what I can use!?

What can I do next?

I used Lotrimin and it is less expensive than Monistat. I also used a hair dryer to dry my daughters's bottom when they had yeast infections. Yeast thrives in moist, dark places.

Just go get the Monistat at the CVS ... It'll clear it up. Also, use a hair dryer on a low setting after wiping and bathing to make sure her little bottom is good and dry. That'll help, as well.

I was advised by my ped to use any 1% clotrimazole cream for this (lotrimin, monistat, store brand). If you are unsure you should probably take her in or at least call your pediatrician's office.

Good luck.

Lotrimin cream is fine for it - ask the pharmacist about it if you want to.
You can also add 1 cup of plain yogurt to her bath water - it will help to sooth her skin.

Go to CVS for a tube of miconazole. In a jar, mix one tube miconazole with a tube of Neosporin and a small tube of Desitin creamy. Apply liberally to clean butt at each change until the rash clears up.

This is the "recipe" our pediatrician gave me years ago.

Put some white flour in a small pot & heat until it turns brownish. Let cool completely. Put it in a container that can be sealed. Sprinkle some on the rash like you would with baby powder. Symptoms should go away in a couple of days. Used this on both of my girls.

Please pick up your phone and call you doc's office. They should have an after hours number for you to call. Your insurance company may even have a 24 hour nurse on duty, they often do. Or call/go to a Walgreens and ask a pharmacist since they are the only true experts when it comes down to medications.

There are a few prescription yeast creams that knock this out fairly quickly....Nystatin and Oxistat are two I remember from when my kids had this kind of rash. If you are trying to treat this OTC, then buy Clotrimazole, Miconazole, or Tiozole cream that is used for an adult yeast infection and use that at every diaper change. These are pesky and very hard to get rid of. The dampness and darkness of the diaper area is a perfect breeding ground for fungus and that's what this is. It's called Candida Albicans and it's a tough one to get control over. Also, don't use baby wipes. Until this passes, try to use just plain water to wipe her down with as it won't irritate the skin like the wipes will. They tend to sting on a rash like this.

The monistat will work great. Make sure you clean her good and keep her as dry as possible. I don't think I would do the blow dryer thing but that's just me lol. But the monistat will clear it up quick.
