N.G.
I plan to buy my daughter one in 6th grade, one in 8th grade, and probably one her senior year of high school. I don't see the point in buying them more often than that, but that's just me!
Good morning mamas!! I was wondering at what age do you start buying your children yearbooks? My daughter is in preschool and will only be at this school for one year then will go to Kindergarten at a school in a different town. Granted, some of the kids in her class will also go with her to Kindergarten so I could see her maybe wanting to see pictures of them from when they were this age...but I just wonder if it's necessary (okay I know it's not necessary...but is it something I should buy?). I think in elementary, junior and definitely HS I will buy them for my kids. But not sure about preschool age? Ideas/thoughts?
Wow thanks for all of the responses!! I forgot to mention that I'm a huge scrapper and attend every class party so she will have pictures from her classroom parties and field trips for this year! The reason I was asking is because I often am suckered into buying stuff I don't think they really need/want. So when I got the form, my first thought was 'Nah' then I started to second guess myself!! Thanks for all the input!

I'm not rich by any means, but I've bought them every year they've been offered. Of course, they're getting more expensive the older my kids get, BUT, I don't buy them just because my kids ask for them, I buy them because I think back on all my school days and wish I had pictures, etc. My parents couldn't afford anything other than the single school picture but I kind of wish they could have bought the class picture instead. PLUS with the yearbook, I love having the pictures of the teachers and all the extra stuff that's usually in the yearbook.
I'm also the really sentimental type, so anything with my chldrens' pictures, I'm a sucker to buy!!
Good luck!!!
We've bought them every year starting at K. They were not offered by our preschool. My son LOVES his yearbooks. Worth every penny.
I would, but I'm an old sap that way. I wish I had more yearbooks.
In preschool, the only thing offered to us was a picture of the class and single shot of daughter.
Yearbooks were offered in elementary school beginning in K. Yes, I have purchased one each year for my daughter and we have enjoyed them over the years. here is how it works here...
Elementary, less than $30 grades K-5
Middle school, around $40 grades 6-8
High School, around $60 grades 9-10
Senior high school, $90 grades 11-12
My daughter is in 11th grade and we have her collection all together. She even enjoys looking at yearbooks from my husband and my childhood. All of our yearbooks are signed by friends and teachers and the are a nice memory.
My oldest 3 kids went to catholic school they got year books each year. looking back I wish we had just got the class picture until 8th grade. my youngest son who is considerably younger went to public school. he had class picture each year until 5th grade then got a year book. in junior high he got year books each year.
I guess I should answer your question lol. Skip the year book last year of gradeschool, and then the years after. your daughter won't remember anyone from preschool. if they have a class picture maybe get that but other than that its just a fundraiser for the school lol.
I won't start buying yearbooks until middle school. I attend class parties and field trips, so I'll get a group shot at some point during the year, and we label it. I don't even buy the class photo or individual pictures because they never capture my kids' real smiles. A preschool yearbook is beyond ridiculous!
if it's available, affordable, & you're interested....then why not?
I would just get a class picture for preschool. I'm sure your daughter won't care to remember the little kids in the 2 yr old class she doesn't even know.
I am starting to order yearbooks starting in kingergarten, since my son will most likely be going to school with the same kids for at least the next 6 years.
I wouldn't buy one for preschool. Most of the kids she'll probably never see again. Do they offer a class picture? I start buying them in elementary school when they are going to school with the same kids year after year. My daughter, 2nd grade, loves to look at her yearbooks and does so quite often.
I think it is silly to buy a yearbook for a young child. I only have high school yearbooks and I've survived just fine without remembering what field trip we took in 3rd grade. It's probably a way for the school to make money. That said, I like Mindy's idea to just buy them for the year they "graduate" on to the other school.
Preschool? Good golly, no. Our small community preschool didn't offer yearbooks. I buy my kids an elementary, middle and high school yearbook on the year that they graduate. My daughter bought herself one in seventh grade because she wanted it. A class picture ought to be sufficient for preschool and elementary years, when they have one class.
Every single year and every single school or daycare that offered them.
McMama:
Nope, not for pre-school. That's ridiculous in my opinion....
I guess I'm dating myself as year books didn't start for me until Junior High. Now they are in elementary school and unfortunately the kids don't "get it" so it turns out to be a waste of money. We buy ONE for both at this point. They both go to the same school and NO ONE signs it anyway.
Get a class picture and put names on the back!
