Xmas Gift Ideas

Does anyone have any gift ideas for 10-13 year old boys? Since I am the mother of a 4 year old and 10-month old, I have lost touch with what it is that pre-teenage boys like. This is for xmas gifts for my nephews. Asking them doesn't help, as their parents have trained them well. Example: "I don't want anything, thank you. I have everything I need, thank you. I don't know what I like".

What can I do next?

Hi BA,
No one seemed to mention it but the movie Transformers. That seemed to be on all my cousins lists.

Are they into drawing? Maybe some fancy art supplies from an art supply store? Nice Prisma color pencils and a Strathmore sketch pad or great acid free pens that will not fade or streak. I found this cool pencil sharpener that is a robot, and when you sharpen the pencil it walks about. It is only $5 at Dick Blick Art Materials in Dearborn, off of Michigan Ave.They have some really neat cheap gifts. They also probably have tons of stuff at Michaels as well. My son's half brother just turned 11 and is all about drawing little animation characters. This saved me this year. Anything to distract him from his heavy video game addiction was all I was hoping for.

Good Luck,

I suggest gift cards. I don't know how much you look to spend, but it can get really expensive buying for that age group. Gift cards for Target are always a good choice, or if they are into sports get one at a sporting goods store. My nephew is close to that age and he always wants a gift card to FYE so he can buy dvd's and cd's himself.
Good luck!

All my 13 year old (and all his friends, from talking to the parents)wants is name brand cloths from the mall and iTunes cards to put music on his iPod. If you don't want to give a gift card you could always get them hoddie's from Aeropostale for about $20 or anything from that store. It's a little less expensive the American Eagle and Pac-Sun which are my 13 year olds other favorite stores. If they have a gaming system you could give a game for that. If they ski or snowboard a pass to the ski hill would be a nice gift too. Just a few of the ideas I've came up with for my own son....good luck!

Hi,

Tough question :o). My nephew just turned 12. He really does have everything, so when I asked him what he'd like and he answered, "Whatever you give me, I will like" I was as frustrated as you.
I decided to ask him different questions, such as.. what do you do for fun, do you have any hobbies, what do you and your sisters do when your homework is finished? Do you all play any games? What's your favorite subject in school? Where would you LOVE to go that your parents never take you? What's your favorite thing to do with your friends?
That way I got a better sense of who he is at 12 and what things interest him, without coming out and asking questions that never got answered.
Last year I gave him a gift card to the movies, with enough for snacks too, and a card to a restaurant. I did it because I remembered how fabulous it felt when I was that age to be able to pay for myself or to get without asking for money from my mom. I told him it would be nice if maybe he took his mom out (I knew she'd pay for herself, but he didnt know that :o) ). It was also a gift that didn't clutter his room or that he had ten of.

Good Luck. I know how difficult it is to give something great at this age.

I have a 9 year old son, and all of his friends are in that age range as well. He loves Pokemon and video games. Action figures also. Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon and anything with video games goes over big with that age.

I agree with what everyone else said, games, music, etc. Also, find out if they are into any particular sport, you could get them tickets to go to a game... (hockey = Flint Generals, etc) It doesn't have to be a major league game. You could give them trips to the movies, or an indoor water park, or skiing lift tickets/rentals. If they are into learning guitar, you could get them expensive strings (elixir) or a set of lessons, or some music books/cd for learning. Good luck.

Kids that age love some independence. You can get them a Visa Gift Card. They work anywhere that takes visa and you can usually get them from your bank.

Hello, here is a couple ideas. If they have the game systems, video games are a plus. Just make sure you have gift receipts, in case it's one they may already have. Another, and this is the easiest way, is to get them a gift certificate to a game store, or somewhere like best buy or circuit city. Hope this helps!

If he happens to have a game system I would get him a gift card to Game Stop. That way he can pick out a game he wants and they sell used games so they are cheaper.

How about video games? Do they have a video system? Or maybe giftcards? My niece is 10 and loves to get giftcards!

Hello,
I agree a gift card to EB Games or Game Stop would most likely be something they'll enjoy. They can choose a game of their liking, or accessories for their system. Music is big too so you might want to consider getting a gift card to Best Buy instead of the others. At Best Buy they could choose from music, movies, games and more. If they are into sports...a gift card to Sports Authority might work too.

Good Luck!
