Hi i had 4 weeks ago my 5th child and i lost in the first 3 weeks 24 lbs. Which i apriciate, but now nothing happens with my weight. After my c-section, i got an infection and went to the doc. He had to open up the incision a little, so the poss and blood could drain out. Now it's finally healed and i liked to work out. But i'm a little scared to do so. I'm scared my incision opens up again. What would you suggest and what kind of work out should i do. I would love to loose some weight, so i can fit in my old close again.
thank you

So What Happened?

hi everyone
thank you for your advise. I've been walking outside on the lake a little bit with the kids, but didn't do anything else so far. I have a check up on Nov. 1th, then i'll ask the doc what she means i should do. Thank's to you all.

Hi there :) I'm no personal trainer, but just go lite and be consistent. I don't know how easy it is for you to get out, but walk!!! I had my son naturally, but I started walking when he was about two weeks old and was surprised how much you use abdominals when you walk. and it's gentle on your joints and incision.
Hope I could help.

Hi there! I had c-sections w/ both of my kiddos too, with almost the same problem. I had a part of the incision that kept re-opening, even after it had healed.

I agree with everyone else...check w/ your Dr before doing anything. To lose the baby weight I walked everywhere...even if it was just walking laps around the block. When the incision had healed enough that it wasn't painful...around 5 weeks I think, I started excercising along with belly dancing tapes (there are some really good deals on eBay), they really helped to rebuild my tummy muscles and they weren't to strenuous after the c-section.

It took me 4 months to lose the 22 lbs I gained with my last child, but considering, I think that is pretty good. Like someone said b4...its not a race. Have a great day!

You shouldn't do ANYTHING!!! C-sections are major surgeries and while you may want to get your body back trying to push your body too hard too soon might cause you to do more harm to your incision and your uterus. I wouldn't start any workout routine other than maybe light walking for six weeks...at the very least maybe even longer depending on what your doctor says.

A., you should not try to do any kind od work out for at least 6-8 weeks after your c-section, and then i would try a low empact work out. But first i would probably talk to your Dr. just to see if it is okay. Good luck and congrats

With a c-section it is good to take it slow at first. Make sure your incision is totally healed. I had a c-section with my daughter 10-months ago, and I know the first few workouts are hard! I waited to workout until my doctor gave me permission at 8-weeks.

I would start by taking your baby for a walk in the stroller everyday (or even twice a day). If you have a double stroller, you can take your 22-month old and baby at the same time. Each walk you should focus on going a little faster.

To really speed up your weight loss you will want to do some strength training as well. You can do this at home with workout videos while your children nap, or you could try a class. I like www.collagevideo.com because you can watch a few minutes of video to see if you will like it.

I do Baby Boot Camp classes which are great because you bring your baby (and/or toddler)to class in a stroller and that takes care of the issue of what to do with the kids while you workout. We do cardio and strength training in each class, so it is very effective.

You can check to see if there are any classes in your area (www.babybootcamp.com), or you could also check with your local gyms/ymca to see what they offer moms (a lot of places have a nursery).

I know that it is so hard to get motivated to workout after having kids because you are just so tired all the time. Good luck finding something that works for you!

My doctor told me to wait six weeks after my c-sections to start working out again, and then take it a little easy at first. You didn't say how long ago your incision was re-opened, but I would probably wait six weeks from that time just to be sure. You don't want to hurt yourself so that you are unable to do anything again. Usually you have a six week checkup after you have a baby so the doctor can make sure you're healing, so my advice would be to ask your doctor then, and they'll be able to tell you for sure.

You definitely need to be patient especially since your initial incision got infected and had to be reopened. Just wear your maternity clothes a little while longer. The time will come in a few more weeks, but you need to give your body time to heal. The weight will come off, but it's not a race to see how fast you can do it. No one will give you a prize for doing it 2 weeks sooner with the risk of re-opening your incision and developing a more serious problem. With 4 previous deliveries you've been down this road before and know that it will happen, but at the medically appropriate correct time.

Congratulations on your new baby. I had c-sections with both of my children. you should always check with your doctor before working out but I started out with walking. I think I started walking about 3 weeks after my son was born. When I walked outside I usually put the baby in a snugli for added resistance. There are also some good post-natal workout tapes available. I had one called bounce back after baby with Denise Austin and New Dimension workout with Cindy Crawford which she made after having her baby. There is also one called Dance Baby Dance but you can't use it until your baby can hold his head up because the baby is your workout partner. Good luck
