Wondering How to Bundle My Son This Winter

I'm wondering what type of winter gear to get my 7-month-old son for this winter. I have one of those "bundle me" fleece things for the carseat so when he's in there he's toasty, even without a coat. Last year it was great because we just toted him around in the carseat and didn't have to take him out until we were inside. He's too big now for that so I'm in a quandry as to what to put him in so that he's warm enough when we're transporting him to and from the car but that he won't roast in, in the car (he tends to get too hot in the carseat even without the fleece thing). Any advice is welcome! Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

It was hard to find a fleece body suit because my son was so big. So I made one. If your son is warm in his car seat a thin fleece full body suit will work great. On bitterly cold days just add a fuzzy blanket. You can check his face and chest and get a feel for how warm he is.
Best of luck!

With my son we bought a nice wool coat from Old Navy - not too bulky but very warm - and when we would get to the car we'd often take it off (unless it was a very short ride and the car wouldn't be warmed up!) and used fleece blankets (from Target) on his legs when we carried him to the car, which we would cover him with once buckled up. We'll probably do the same with our 7 month old this winter. (oh - and we also had hat and mittens - those usually stayed on until the car was warmed up!) BUT - we did have a fleece one piece snowsuit thing - which he used if we were going to be outside for an extended period of time.

I've heard over and over that we are not suppose to put our children in big puffy warm winter coats and then strap them into a carseat the reason being that the carseat straps won't properly fit the child and make it unsafe.

Your suppose to buy a thinner coat like a fleece jacket etc. and use blankets.

I would buy a fleece lightweight coat or snowsuit they really work nice or look into using a infant carseat "bucket style" that go up to a higher weight limit.

I'm due with my 2nd child this winter and bought the Graco Safeseat1 which goes to 30lbs and am hoping to get 2 winters out of it.

I loved and highly recommend the fleece bunting one-piece from Columbia. We used it from October-Spring and she was 9-14 months during this time.

She was always warm and I never had to worry about a draft creeping in around her waist or up her legs. Plus, it covered her hands, which was great since she would not keep mittens on. If she were going to be outside for a longer time, we just layered more under it.

Watch for them to go on sale at Macys and Herbergers.

I loved my Bundle Me by J.J. Cole. You can put them in their carrier without big bulky coats. They also make a big kid version too. Check out: http://www.bundleme.com/ Also go to www.onestepahead.com. They have a big selection of good winter wear that's travel friendly.

We love the LL Bean's Model Fleece coveralls. They have a hood and flaps that can cover both hands and feet, eliminating the need for mittens in a little one! They come in cute colors and are available online.

S.,

I used a fleece snowsuit (Columbia or Lands End) for my little guys when they were that age. By then they were too big for the "bucket", and we didn't put the bundle me in the car seat, so having them in a fleece was the right thickness for keeping warm going in and out of the car and not too bulky or hot for riding.

I also used my sling frequently to keep him close and warm if I had to walk a ways.

I used a nice, warm, thick fleece blanket for my boys when they got to big for the Bundle Me. It's easy to wrap them up and carry them around in it, and easy to take off when he gets too warm in the car. My sister made a fleece hooded cape for my youngest last year. That was pretty handy.
