The Hope House is a fantastic organization: http://www.hopehouse-ejc.org/
There is also Sheffield Place: http://www.sheffieldplace.org/
And, Mother's Refuge: http://www.mothersrefuge.org/
My son's 1st birthday party is tomorrow and in lieu of gifts, I have asked parents to bring a gently used toy that we can donate to a local charity. I would like to give the toys to a womens' shelter or another program that supports women and children in a time of need. I have thought of the Rose Brooks Program or Operation Breakthrough in Kansas City, MO but was wondering if anyone had any ideas of something in Johnson County.

Safe Home is located at 87th & I-35 ... it's a domestic violence shelter for woman and children ... i donated a lot of my maternity clothes to them and they were very grateful.

What a great idea, and a wonderful lesson to teach! You can also check into TLC (for children), Safe Home, Sunflower House,Harvesters...Good luck.

What a great idea! Safe Home is the domestic violence shelter in Johnson County- you should be able to get through to them by calling the metro-wide hotline, (816)HOTLINE. Be sure to ask if they accept used children's items though, because some organizations don't for various health/safety reasons. Good luck!
A good friend of mine is a social worker at TLC in Olathe www.kidstlc.org. They work and house foster children. They are always looking for donations of toys.
What a great idea....I am doing a home show for a lady that sales baby products and I thought that I would donate any promotions I got from the show to the charity.
Call SafeHome to see if they have room for more(sometimes they can't accept all donations)- they are the only battered womens shelter in JOCO- an amazing organization- ###-###-####
I believe the Sunflower House accepts donations. They support children that have been abused.
What about the Sunflower House in Shawnee? It is for women and children who are in abusive home situations. Just a thought. What a great idea to teach others about giving.
