Hi A.,
I used cortizone 10 on my sons cheeks when when he was an infant. Also I would rotate between the cortizone and just some baby powder in his neck. Good luck!
Has anybody found a good ointment for "winter cheeks"?
My son is 4 month old and has very bad eczema on his cheeks and neck.
The neck area is even worse since it is not getting enough air circulation(it appears wet)
Any advise will be greatly appreciated!
A.
Thanks a lot to everybody who replied! Your help is priceless!!!!!!!!!
I started using Aquaphor and it helps a lot. Desitin on the neck also helped.
Greatly appreciate every single advice!!!!!!

You did get wonderful responses but just wanted to add on days it is really bad you can apply chapstick right to the cheeks.
Aveeno has an eczema cream that works great. My son has eczema and that is what I use on him. Good Luck!
My MIL told me to use Johnson's Baby Cream when my son was younger. It has been harder for me to find as I had the next 2, but usually I find it at CVS or Walgreen's. It comes in a little canister like face cream and sometimes a tube. Make sure it is the CREAM and not a lotion.
I use Balmex. It works wonders!
Hi A.,
I used Aquaphor on my boys when I ran out of their prescription for eczema. It worked better than the cortisone prescription that they were given!
Aquaphor is a great product; you can use it on cheeks, lips or even a diaper rash.
Hi A.! My 13 month old daughter had "winter cheeks" the other day, and I smeared some Aquaphor on them, and I'm not kidding, by the morning, her skin looked wonderful!! If you have some Lansinoh (lanolin cream), use that too -- which is also good for diaper rash. You can go to www.arbonne.com and check out their baby line. I've heard it's fabulous for eczema! Good luck!
I would say Eucerin or Aquafore. My daughter has eczema too. After her bath we use the Eucerin. We never dry her completely. We apply the Eucerin when her skin is still a bit damp. If it still seems irritated then I would try applying a topical Cortizon as well.
I tend to use oil of olay or aveeno. My daughter has sensitive skin so I have to be careful with what I use.
Try aquaphor. It is nice and thick and makes a nice barrier.
I used Gerber Faces whenever we would go out just for that extra protection from the winter cold and wind. It seemed to help and it was in a stick so it wasn't messy and I could keep it in the diaper bag.
Arbonne has a great cream called rejuvenating cream. it is great for all types of irritated skin. I gave some to a friend for her kids. they kept licking their lips and got VERY red, sore, and chapped. Also, I have used it for sun burn, and just really red raw skin irritations! It has tons of uses. Oh also, when they have a sore nose from a cold, clears it right up!
I bathe my son in Basic H2 and it helps with eczema and diaper rashes. I then put some Small Wonders Baby Lotion on his cheeks. It is all natural stuff so you can feel safe with it. Even though I do that in this dry weather he starts to get "winter cheeks" So I just make sure to wash his face daily with the basic h2 and put the lotion on twice a day. We have no problems that way. I can tell you where to get them if you like: ____@____.com
A&D ointment will protect and heal winter cheeks.
My doctor told me cheap old Vaseline on the cheeks is the most gentle way to help with this issue. It really helps with the drool bumps she is getting while teething as well as any diaper rash that comes up. It seems to work for her if I put it on right before bed and right when she wakes up for the day. Her daycare will put it on as well on an as needed basis.
Our son has eczema too and we have had good results with Aquaphor ointment. Good luck!
Specifically for the winter cheeks, I used the Johnsons Soothing Naturals Balm. It comes in stick form and I apply it for dry skin and to prevent chapping due to wind, etc. There are also a few other products in the Soothing Naturals line that may help with your other issues. If you go to www.johnsonsbaby.com, you can search their products. I buy them at Babies R Us, but I am sure they are available other places. Hope that helps some!
My doula and pediatrician recommended Lansinoh. It has worked wonders during the Indiana and Michigan winters and it's all natural. Mary Kay cosmetics also has a wonderful pink cream called night cream. It's good for the babies and for our rough elbows.
Hi A.,
Arbonne International is a company that has healthy skincare and wellness products for every member of the family. Their ABC child's line really helps children and adults with eczema. Arbonne products are hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested. They have no artificial dyes or fragrances and no mineral oil (which is really important.) The baby line also has no nut oils. If you'd like, I can share samples with you and show you before and after pictures of people who have benefited from the ABC line. I can also show you how to buy Arbonne products at wholesale prices or even cheaper.
Good luck.
Hi A..
My son also has eczema, and after trying 3 different lotions, the one that works the best for him is Aveeno Baby. I hope this helps!
Hi A.-
I use Aquaphor ointment on my daughter's cheeks. Works like a charm!
Hello~
I have a 4 month old also! I LOVE the burts bee's line from Target. They have stuff called baby balm. It's like a thick lotion mixture, all natural. I love it for dry skin. My baby had some dry skin on her arms a month or so ago and now it's fine! She would also look like her neck was "wet," it was from spilled milk that i didn't get, and man did it smell....i used desitin on this first and then burts bees after a few days of desitin.
You can get it at target and some other natural type food stores. Some stuff if a little pricy, but totally worth it!

My son who is 28 had been suffering greatly with Eczema for several years until I couldn't take it any more. So a product was recommended called Eczema Rescue, it is a cream and works really well. Another product that has even been working better is Jason Body Wash with Tea Tree Oil, has been a life saver for him. I can't even remember the last time I saw him itching and scratching. These products can be bought at Health Food Stores and we had to go to the Norwood area in Ohio to find them. Diet also plays a big part with Eczema, there is very good info on the internet, give it a try. Good Luck.
Aquaphor works really well on my daughter, and when I'm going to take her out and don't want her to look greasy, I put Cetaphil lotion on her. She's five months old and both were recommended by her pediatrician.
I've had good luck with Aquaphor, but the key is to put it on when you first get them up. It moisturizes, and creates a good barrier for the skin.
I went to the Babies R Us website looking to see if they still carried the Gerber Faces. The packaging was blue and reminded me of a glue stick. I used this product when my son was little and loved the results. I couldn't find it on the website, but maybe it's still out there. I did noticed a product with 5 stars called Mustela Hydra-Bebe Face for $9.99. I personally have not tried this product, but maybe someone out there has...
Aquaphor is another good ointment. It works for just about everything.
aquaphor is really good through the winter months. i use it on myself, my son & daughter. it may be alittle pricy, but alittle goes a long way. just use a thin coat, you don't want to glob it on. good luck & God bless.
Honestly, "winter cheeks" are sometimes an allergy to cow's milk or soy that the baby is getting via formula and/or through mother's breastmilk (if mom is eating cow's milk products or soy products).
If his eczema is allergy-related, all the ointments in the world aren't going to solve the eczema. Here is a link to a helpful chart - if your baby is exhibiting any other allergy symptoms listed here in addition to his eczema, consider doing a temporary diet change (switching formula for several weeks to a soy-free/dairy-free formula, or if breastfeeding, mom temporarily eliminates any and all soy and cow's milk from her diet for several weeks). Here's the link, from a well-known pediatrician:

Good luck!
use Aveeno "oatmeal" it will help my son had it
Hi A.-
my son's cheeks have been so bad that they start to bleed. I've found that Mustela's Cold Cream Ultra-Protective Cream works wonderfully. He still gets a bit pink; but, we have no cracking, flaking, or bleeding and he doesn't seem to be sore, at all. We actually use it year round now but twice a day in the winter. It's abit pricey; but, a little goes a long way. We can make an $11 tube last about 4 months. C O Bigelow seems to carry the whole line of products. I've started using their sunscreen and face wipes, as well since my son seems to tolerate their products well. If whatever you try doesn't work quickly, I'd try a pediatric dermotologist, too. They probably have more solutions. Good Luck!
After baths I put tons of medicinal ointment and Aveeno lotions. At night, I would slather on the lotions and leave the lotion wet on them and put their clothes on over the lotion. It helped to seal in the moisture so it would soak into their skin. The doctor said that the best way to seal in moisture it by putting on all those oinments and lotions within 5 minutes of getting out of the bath and then putting on clothes.
Some of them state they remove the burn and itch feelilng of eczema. I always tried to wrap up my boys' necks and face when going outside because the air would burn their faces and skin. I think my boys both grew out of most of the eczema symptoms by about 3.5 years old, so you may be dealing with this for a while.
I never found a perfect solution for healing eczema. I tried all sorts of over-the-counter and prescriptions and lotions.
My daughter used to get that in her neck and the doctor told me to put a little bit of vaseline on it and it cleared up. Same should work for the cheeks - good luck!...h
Hi A.,
Sorry, I guess I am a little late with my response, but here is my two cents anyway =) My son Keegan is 6 months old and though I don't think he has winter cheeks, he is a drooling fool!!!! He is constantly sucking and chewing on his right hand so his right cheek is constantly wet and is now rash-like. My ped suggested breast milk (if you are nursing) and Aquaphor (made by Eucerin). So far the combo seems to work. I put a little breast milk on when I feed him in the early AM so it can dry and my husband puts the lotion on him when he gets him ready in the morning and throughout the day if needed. Hope this helps! Good luck!
my girls get badley chapped hands it was AQUAPHORE that did it for us...good luck
