My youngest daughter just turned a year old on May 2nd but she still doesn't have a single tooth. My oldest had at least 2 teeth by the time she was a year old. I have talked to her doctor about it and he said it can take up to 15 months sometimes. I am just curious if there are other mother's out there that have had this issue. How long did it take your kids to get their first tooth?

What can I do next?

The longer it takes for teeth to come in is actually better for the teeth themselves. When babies get their teeth varies so widely. My son got his first at 7 months. Some babies are born with them and as her doc said, some take almost up to a year and a half!

Is she walking yet? I was told that if it takes longer for the teeth than they walk sooner. Just an old wives tale maybe.

You are not alone. My 13 month old still has not gotten any teeth either. My sister's dentist told her that the longer it takes for them to get their teeth in the better their teeth will be. I have also asked his peditrician about it and she said that some kids do take longer to get their teeth in and it is normal.

My neice didn't get her teeth until she was over a year. It looks funny but it doesn't hurt. If you are worried though, take her to the dentist.

I have been told that the longer the teeth take, the better they will be, so I guess I wouldnt worry. But as adviced, talk to a dentist if you are very worried. My girls came in at 4 months and my son at 6, so I dont know what to tell you other then what i have heard.

My brother's ex girlfriend has a five year old. When she was 2 she still didn't have teeth. She took her to the dentist and they did xrays and said her teeth were there but just haven't pushed through yet. He said not to worry about it because they could see all of them on the xray. Maybe you could take her to a dentist.

A good friend of mine just went through the same thing. Her daughter just got her first tooth and she is 15 months old. I'm not sure how common that is, but I wouldn't be too concerned yet.

I was told when you get your teeth is in your genes for exmaple I got my first teeth when i was 3 months and my older brother got his at 2 months my first daughter got her at 3 months and my middle girl at 6 months and well my son is ten months and has 5 and 3 on the way. See if maybe you was a later stater. My little brother was born with no adult teeth. He is 24 and still has his baby teeth.

MY now 3 year old how is number 6 of my 7 didn't get teeth until she was almost 2 and that was a question I kept asking but they did finally come in she doesn't have her 2 year old molars yet which the dentist gets a kick out of, don't worry they will come in when there good and ready. One thing I have noticed with all my kids is the later the teeth come in the better they handle them, less teething pain. A few of mine had teeth that came in at about the average time and their teething was a lot worse then the ones who came in later. I remember when my son was around 8 months and he was fussy and crying all the time and I didn't know what was going on. My husband came home that night and i was so frustrated cause I didn't know what was going on, he figured out he was teething and was surprised I didn't. But the older ones didn't really teeth they just opened thier mouth one day and had teeth, there's came in around 13-14 months so maybe for you it will be a blessing too. Don't worry they're there and will pop out when ready.

Hey J.,

My first child didn't get her first tooth until she was 14 months old. I have heard that the longer it takes for them to come in the better their teeth are--I don't know if I believe that or not because her teeth don't look too healthy (not very white) although her dentist seems to think they are great. I will say that she is 10 years old and hasn't had a cavity yet!!! My second got her first tooth at 8 months and my third got his first tooth at 4 months. Just remember that all kids are different and her teeth will come when they are ready. Hope this helps.

J.-
My daughter got her first 2 teeth at 4 months and my son did not get his until 8 months. He has got all them much later, but when they start to come in they come immediately. The drs say its genetic when they come in. My husband got them early and my mom said I did not get them until after a year, I figured my son must be following my genetics and my daughter my husband's. I think it's better when they get them later because there is less time they are exposed to food and bacteria to get cavities. If you are worried about the baby being able to chew things, my son did a really good job mashing with his gums. He was eating table food at around 7 months and has never choked on anything.

My daughter was 14 months old before she got her first tooth (she's now 9), I too was worried. The doctor assured me that there were teeth in there, and sure enough there were. Be patient, they will come. Just be aware when they do, they may come all at once.

some kids get teeth faster, some slower. once you start with dentist visits (usually around 2-3), they can tell by xrays if they are missing any of those tooth buds. It's not uncommon for a bud to be missing. That'll just stay empty until the adult tooth comes in. The only thing you have to be careful with is the other teeth not moving into that space so that the adult tooth still will have room. But you dentist would be able to help monitor that if that should happen to occur.

Yes she will. Don't worry! My daughter didn't get any teeth until she was 17 mo. old. My husband joked that we were going to have to go to the dentist and get her fitted for dentures. They finally came in, now she is almost 5 and has perfectly healthy strong teeth.

Perfect timing!! My son is 13 months and just had his first tooth come in today! I was worried about it, too. Lots of people told me stories of their kids and how long it took for them to come in. The longest I heard was our photographer's kid who was 18 months when she finally got her first tooth.

Feel her gums and if you feel bumps where teeth are in there, or I could even see the bumps, then they'll come in when they're good and ready to. :)

I hope that eases your mind a bit.

I thought my child was the only kid in the world who would never get any teeth. My baby was 15 months when she got her first tooth, and it has not stopped from there. Now she has about 9 teeth. We could not even feed her normal food for the longest time because she could not chew.
So there is still hope for your baby to get some teeth, it just takes some time.
GOOD LUCK

Hi J.! Don't worry about it, she will eventually get her teeth. I'm a dentist and we often times see kids that haven't gotten their first tooth by their first birthdays. My son, who is now 2, didn't get his first tooth until he was 17 months old. They will eventually come in - some kids just take longer to get their teeth than others.

I have three kids - my daughter (7) didn't get her first tooth until 15 months, my son (6) got his at the regular time - started cutting his teeth between 6 and 8 months, and then my youngest son (3) didn't have any until 14 months or so again. My mom said that my brothers and I all didn't have teeth until after we turned one. I have heard the longer it takes their teeth to come in, the better teeth they will have. So, I wouldn't worry about it - the worst part is that for their 1-year pictures, they are only gums in their smiles - but it sure is cute!! :-) Hope this helps!!

My oldest 2 boys were around 1 when they got there first teeth, however it seemed like they were teething from six months on so it can be really frustrating. However they say kids that get teeth late end up having great teeth. My husband was a year old before he got teeth as well and he does have great teeth. So it can be frustrating, but if what they say is true it will be good in the long run to hopefully not have to deal with orthodontic work and bills!!

dont worry at all. my son is actually one of the few that has almost 10 teeth at 10 months of age. he has 4 on bottom, that came in at 4 months; 4 on top that came in at 7 months; and he is getting his 1 year mollars. other friends of mine have children that are between 10 months and 1 1/2 years and they have very few teeth. every child is different, so relax and have fun!!
