Hi! I just wante to welcome you to the neighborhood! I live a few blocks south of Lake Phalen near the intersection of Orange and Earl. We love living near the lake and hope that the neighborhood really starts to take off with all that they are doing with the Phalen Corridor. We have lived here one year this May and really like it. A few things that you may want to check out in the area...
1. East YMCA is awesome and super close (arcade and Phalen Blvd.) I actually work very part-time there in the drop off child watch.
2. Payne-Phalen ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) has a birth to five class on Wed. from 12-2 pm that is very well done. They are constantly enrolling new participants and you could probably even bring the little one that you watch. It is at the intersection of Maryland and Payne. ###-###-####
3. The East Side Mom's club is quite active and is a international non-profit (no religious affiliation) that just provides playgroups and playdates for part-time working or stay-at-home moms. Again, there are day care providers that bring the kids they watch to playdate. Dues are $25 a year and it is a great group of women! Contact the membership VP at ###-###-#### (Deb D.)
4. Places to eat...Yarussos on Payne and E. 7th (Italian), Swede Hollow Cafe on E. 7th (coffee shop) , Romolos on Arcade near Johnson High School (great pizza-they deliver), Serlins on Payne Ave.(great breakfast-closed Sundays), Don Ponchos Mexican Bakery has great pastries (very authentic), and there is a wonderful mexican place on Payne nearing Phalen Blvd. that I can't remember the name of (again very authentic, but delicious and so cheap!)
Anyway, welcome to the neighborhood and I hope this helps! E-mail me if you need anything else!
M.
