Mario space game is great and the mario cart. I would stay away from any of the games not made directly by Ninetendo, they tend to be really cheesy and have really bad graphics. Mario party is great too!
We recently purchased a Wii and are having fun with it. All we have is the basic sports package and the Wii Play. I'm looking for a fun game to give my son for his 5th birthday. He likes, but doesn't love, sports. He's more into science, dinosaurs, other animals, and puzzles. Any suggestions??

My entire family from hubby to kids to younger niece & nephews has loved the Raving Rabbids (1 & 2) games. We recently got a fun puzzle one called Boom Blox where you have to destroy blox to get to the next level.
I saw an ad for an underwater exploration game recently. That might be a fun one to rent.
My 6 year old nephew has loved Kororinpa Marble Mania since he tried it 6+ months ago. It's like one of those marble mazes that you tilt to move the marble. Sounds like it would be boring but it's strangely addictive. I'm not a gamer and will play this game, too. It lets my nephew try over and over again without ever making him feel bad when he messes up.
The Carnival Games are a lot of fun and age appropriate!
Mario Party 8 is fun it's just a big board game. My kids love it - I will warn you that once you start a game it will take a while and the computer will fill in where there are not player. Mario Galaxy is also fun. You explore different worlds and perform certain tasks. There is also Wii Sports - I know you said he's not into sports, but its fishing, tanks, cow racing, pool and a game like air hockey. It also has a matching game in it which is awesome where there are little Mii's everywhere and you have to find matching ones.
Our daughter (13) is into the SIMS games, Guitar Hero, Mario. Animal Crossing, Harry Potter to name a few that we have.
If you had a Gamecube, you can play the game cube games on the Wii. Our Gamecube is now collecting dust because we can use all of those games on the Wii. Animal Crossing for 1 is a game cube game but is it fun and simple.
When playing as a family, we still all enjoy the sports package. We will be purchasing the Wii fit as well.
Have fun!
My kids love Lego Star Wars.
We have had our Wii since November, and I also have 5 yo who isn't much into sports (although he does like the Wii
Sports package). Anyway his favorite came by far is Lego Star Wars. He absolutely loves it! He had never even seen the Star Wars movies, and the game made him interested in watching them. It is a one or two player game. We also just bought the Lego Indiana Jones game b/c he has been wanting it. Haven't played that one yet though!
We just got my 5 year old boom blox, and he loves it! It's a puzzle game that was developed by Steven Speilberg, and it's so much fun. Parents love it too--my hubbie stayed up until 5 in the morning the first night we got it. I would recommend it!
We love Smooth Moves! It is a lot of fun and once you get through the beginning stages, you get to use the Wii remote in all different positions to balance things, draw, etc. It is a lot of fun. Also, I found that GameStop is a great place to buy games. If you buy their used games (which are 10% off) you have a week to return it in case something is wrong or if you don't like the game which you can't do with new games. Also, my 6 year old loves the Hot Wheels game. I personally don't like it because I can't seem to figure out how to maneuver it well, but my son has it mastered.
We love the Wii sports and play games also. We just got the Mario Kart and everyone loves that. I have a 9, 7, 4 1/2 and 2. (of course, the 2 yr. old is not playing, but he thinks he is.)
I haven't seen a lot of the Wii games but I do know they have a carnival Wii game. It is supposed to have 25 games or so that you would see at a carnival. I know they have a Diego and other kid movie and show themed games as well.
Hello L.,
I have a couple of Wii games for sale in my eBay Store. One of them being Shrek 3rd. I don't know if your son is interested in Shrek but thought I'd let you know. Thank you!
Have a Blessed Day!
Hands down...Lego Star Wars. Until we got it for our six year old twins, they would run to their friends house whenever we got home, just to play with it. They we in thier 5's when they started playing it.
We just played the Boom Bloc it is great puzzle game. My children really like the Lego Star Wars games as well but your 7 year old might get more out of those for now. I hope he has a great birthday!
Mario Kart is a good one.. My boys 3 & 5 LOVE IT
I really enjoy, Zelda twilight princess and Paper Mario. My husband and I play Super Mario Party 8, it is a big board Game that can have up to 4 players.
Okay so we have just about ever kids game for the Wii and I highly recommend that you do not buy Mario Kart. My son is 5 and he can not stand it. I tried playing it and it is super hard to drive. He really likes Mario Party and since he can't read the directions very well for the mini games it gives little pictures showing you what to do. Buying Mario Party was totally worth the money.
My son who is about to be 7 just got a Wii from my brother and he also got him the Mario Kart racing. We all enjoy playing that. I would recommend either renting the games first or looking at Game Stop for the used games. Just in case he doesn't like it.

I agree to rent the games first. We have rented games thinking my 5 yr old son would love them and found out they were too hard, boring, etc. His favorites are Cars and Spongebob Atlantis Squarepantis.
Hi L.,
I just wanted to recommend that you can rent games at Blockbuster to find just the right ones he'll enjoy before you buy. A salesguy at BB told us the rental is about $8 for five nights but he said you have that "grace period" of one week of being late before they charge you for it, so he said you can really have it for almost 12 days at a time - LOL. My little boys really like the Cars game, too.
If he likes science, there is one that takes you under water and you get to explore and "pet" animals (dolphins, sting rays, etc.) on your journey. It also happened to be one of the less expensive ones at Wal-Mart.
Hope this helps.

Mario Kart is all the rage! We have a Wii and many friends of ours of differant age kids have told us we have to get it! They say it is alot of fun for the whole family. You can add up to 4 players. All have suggested we get the extra steering wheels as well, but we haven't been able to find them. Good Luck- T.
Go on line with Wii and check out the many games they have. I found ones where you have an animal to groom, etc. like horses etc. Anyway there are more games on line than you see in the stores. A.
Try Cosmic Family..my daughter loves it..and it was highky recommended by "Parents Magazine"
We Have children 7, 5, and 3 who like Mario Party 8 (you can adjust the settings to be easier for the younger ones), LEGO Star Wars, and BOOM BLOX (which was created in part by Steven Speilburg). Renting is a good idea. We rent all games before we buy to make sure they are games that are appropriate and fun. Hastings also has games for rent for about the same price as Blockbuster.
I would look into the Endless Ocean: Dive, Discover, Dream game and Brain Academy. we have friends that have those games and they different from the sports games. Check amazon.com and look at the reviews for more help. The super smash brothers has alot of different characters in it... I have yet to find a game that my 2 girls (7 & 4) don't just love!!
We love the Wii Carnival game. Lots of games and so fun!
Hope he has a great birthday!!
My six year old LOVES Monkey Ball Blitz.
We also got the Wii Fit and he really enjoys that one too.
My son is also 5. He is also into everything your son likes- we recently got Boom Blox! It is a lot of fun! I will even play it with him. Steven Spielberg created it. it is basically these big towers that you throw a ball at and try and knock down in a certain amount of throws. There are different levels and it gets more difficult the further along you get. I think if he likes puzzles he will enjoy this because you have to think were would be the best place to aim to knock the tower down.
We have one too and have the Mario Party 8. My kids love this one the most. We just got Wii Fit too and we all love to play that.
Where did you get your Wii? We are looking to buy one and can't find one. Thanks
We have Smooth Moves and it is really fun. It may be good for his age, but I would check.
