He could simply have dry eyes. The air is quite dry this time of year and I am really feeling the dryness.
I have noticed that my 5 month old son has been rubbing his eyes a lot. He does it whether he is tired or not. They don't look irritated. I don't see anything on them that might be bothering him.
I started him on rice cereal at the beginning of the month and was planning on keeping him on 1 tbsp of it a day until he was 6 months. My doctor said that that would be plenty. On Friday we spent the night at daddy's and on Saturday daddy found a jar of carrots in the cupboard (Probably for one of his sister's kids). While I was in the shower, he decided that Oliver wanted to try to carrots (Men!). I walked into the room in the middle of the feeding session. Oliver seemed to be loving the carrots, and hasn't had any problems digesting it. Yet, I'm wondering if this could be an allergic reaction to the carrots... I don't remember when the eye rubbing started, so I don't know if this started before or after the carrots.
Daddy also has a lot of seasonal allergies, like grass and dust. So maybe it could be that? Dad is also allergic to cats, and I have a cat. The cat hasn't been a problem before, but maybe he developed an allergy to cats? I have no idea what's wrong...
Yesterday he was a little more fussy than usual and today he has been way more fussy than usual.
I am planning on asking my home health nurse about this tomorrow, but until then... Any suggestions?

I think you are reaching looking for something so you are going to find it. If the childs eye's aren't red and irritated I'd let it be. We aren't instantly allergic to something anyways. Allergies are built up with exposure. The more exposure the more allergic. That's why people always say they think their allergies get worse every year... they do.
But it's your baby. If you are scared call the nurse.
my son started that around 5-6 months as well. Ped sent us to optomatrist because they did not think it was allgergies yet.. eyes checked out fine and turned oout to be allergies.... he has been on zyrtec since then
sounds like seasonal allegies carrots arent going to effect the eyes
It could be springtime allergies - like not to the carrots but to the air. Tis the season! If it continues, I would talk to your pediatrician.
I don't think food allergies affect the eyes. Either just dry air (I live in MN too and it seems very dry) or something in the air because Spring is coming, or something in the air in your home. We all have dust which is a common irritant. If his eyes aren't red and watery, then I wouldn't be overly concerned.
I think if he were allergic to cats, he'd be more prone to sneezing, but I do know that I have profound seasonal allergies and multiple cats, and the doctor told me that even though I'm not allergic to cats, they can irritate me when my seasonal allergies aren't controlled. My seasonal allergies make me want to scratch my eyes incessantly, so perhaps it's that. Or you could hold off on the foods you suspect irritate him and see if that changes things. Good luck!
It could be allergies or he might have eye problems. You might want to take him to the optometrist.
