Try making the nipple alittle larger with a pin. Maybe she's getting frustrated because its not coming out fast enough.
Good Luck.

When I feed my 5 mo old daughter her bottle, she fusses and whines and kicks her feet. But she continues to drink... its not like she is choking, or anything... I don't even know what to think of it. I just started feeding her some baby veggies (1st foods)and she is liking those... however her main food is still supposed to be the formula. She's never had problems before and has always been a hardy eater! Any advice?
I ended up bringing my daughter to the doctor on monday because i thought she had an ear infection. SHe started pulling on her ears over the weekend, so i figured thats why she was fussing while drinking. Turns out she has a "throat infection." The doc said it is similar to strep but is viral not bacterial. So if you think about it, when i have a sore throat, it hurts me to swallow too!
She also had a tooth pop out yesterday. I knew she was teething, but im thinking with both things going on, she was just miserable!

Hey S., she may need the next size nipples, if she is still on size 1 she definately needs size 2, or she may need size 3 if she is on size 2 right now. When did you last go to the next size nipple? My son did the same thing when he was younger. One day he just started to cry every time he had to have his bottle and I just could not figure out why until my husband suggested he may need a bigger nipple. I had completely forgot that you need to upgrade the sizes every few months. I hope this helps, good luck!
It could be a number of things, gas or maybe the hole in the bottle is too small and she is not getting the liquid fast enough. I ran across that problem with some nipples.
Maybe she could have developed a lactose intolerance. Or, maybe the nipple's flow is too slow.
is she still on "slow flow" nipples? If so, maybe she's frustrated and ready for the Level 2 or medium flow??
maybe the nipple is too small?
you say shes not choking so its definatly not too big, but perhaps its not giving her enough at a time? maybe shes got an ear issue when she swallows it bothers her?
you are right - her main food should be formula at this point. nutritionally solids are not even needed until after a year old. so dont ever stress about the amount of solids your child is eating, they arent needed, its just for fun until after a year. :D the safest food to give a baby starting on solids is actually pears - they are the least allergenic of foods. :D
anyway, try a nipple with a bigger hole. i didnt use bottles, but i think they have different level nipples?
It is quite possible your baby is startng to teethe. U may not actually see her cutting teeth yet, but her gums could be bothering her. Also, a "side effect" od teething is that moving her mouth/jaw can bother her ears (teething itself can do that too but ne way). This is just a guess...my 3 kids did thid when they were teething. Good luck!
Maybe she is gassy from her bottle? Maybe it is making her swallow too much air OR perhaps the flow on the bottle is too slow for her liking. Those are my guesses....
I would have the doctor check her ears and her throat. I am thinking that it could be an ear infection or something to do with her tonsils.
The first thing that came to my mind was reflux. It causes the fluids to come back up with stomach acids and it can be painful on the throat. 3 of my kids had it. Zantac (flavored) worked great for them all.
Good luck,
