I used to get a lot of dried milk clogging the ducts when I was pregnant and I used to just barely poke the top layer of skin with a needle and gently pull it off. I also used to get white heads on my nipples.
Hi, so I have been breast feeding for three and a half months now and I thought I was passed the pain. Well a couple days ago when my baby latched on I started to feel some pain. Now today there is a white spot on my nipple that is painful to touch especially when baby latches on. I'm wondering if its puss, thrush or is that just the color of a sore spot?? I'm also wondering of I should continue nursing from this breast. Have any of u experienced this? Any advice? Thanks!
Thanks for all the input! Last night I continued putting hot wash cloths and took a hot bath. I was able to get the top layer of skin off and milk started coming out!! Today it's not as white and there is little pain, so it definitely was clogged. I'm keeping an eye to make sure it doesn't get worse or spread because from what I learned that will indicate thrush. So for now I feel better...thanks again:)

It sounds like a "bleb" - weird name for weird problem ;) I got one when nursing my second child. It's dried milk that is clogged under a layer of skin - SO, the cure: take hot showers and rub the bleb with a rough washcloth, and KEEP NURSING on that side (yes, I know it hurts, but it will go away!). After about a week it should unclog and all will be good! Right when I thought I had the hang of nursing, I'd be thrown another curve, it's an every evolving relationship that will change many times as your baby grows and you will learn all kinds of strange things about the female body along the way :)
Hi A.B. it's milk stuck under the skin of ur nipple. wen u shower (in warm/hot wtr)use a wash cloth to rub ur nipple. or a needle to pop it to release the milk. It's fine to nurse from that side (ouch) if u are not able to release the trapped milk urself go into the hospital & they can do it for you.
I called my advice nurse. After i released the trapped milk b.feeding was no sweat
sounds like either thrush or just a clogged milk ducted. I got a clogged duct with both my girls. I had a sore white spot on my nipple and it was painful to nurse. I had it checked it and the doc. confirmed it. The best thing to do for it is nurse as much as possible and put hot compress on it before nursing your baby. I hate to say this but the first time I got it it took an entire month before it was finally cleared up. So it can take a while but it will get better.
Sounds like a clogged milk duct to me. I had this happen a few times and used a sterile needle to open it, then hot washcloth to make sure it didn't get infected. It worked and was instant relieve.
Sounds like thrush and chances are your baby has it already. See your ob/gyn and she can prescribe something for both of you. You do not need to stop nursing, but if it's too painful your baby nurse on one side only and pump on the other side until the thrush is healed.
go to breastfeeding.com they have all the answers to breastfeeding. i lived on that site for the first couple months
does it look like a blister?
Is it white as if FILLED with something, or white like how your skin can get if irritated or marked from sharp trauma or friction?
Check out Kellymom.com
In the meantime, I'd give that breast at least one full day off :)
it sounds like a blocked duct, if that is the case hot shower or even hot compresses can help, I had one and actually helped mine along with a sterile needle, might not have been the approved method, but it worked. Even if it hurts continue to nurse on that side as you normally would.
Yes you should continue to nurse from that side, otherwise you may be creating other problems. Is it just one small white spot? This is kellymom's info on a bleb http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/nipplebleb.html
If that is what it is, I know it is unbelievably painful! I found it really helped to soak the breast in epsom salt water then apply a hot compress before nursing. The advice is also to rub a washcloth on it to get the blockage off, which I tried, but Ouch!! Kellymom discusses all that. Once I started doing those things, it did resolve in a couple of days. If that doesn't work, the doc can open it.
When she's latching, make sure she is doing it correctly and not sucking on your nipple. ouch! No matter what the problem is, though, you most likely should continue to breastfeed on that side. If this doesn't seem to be what it is, get in touch with your local La Leche League leader llli.org. She should be able to help.
Pain of any kind after the initial soar nipples makes me think thrush. Check out Dr. Sears website on the Candida fungus and see if it rings true. And see a lactation specialist soon- don't let it get out of hand.
What Betsy C said - and continue to nurse. The compresses, hot showers, can help loosen the blockage, and the nursing can help clear it too.
